Thanks for the content! Excellent. It's a refreshing change to get a simple, down to earth overview of the process, and exactly what I needed. I'm an aging engineer (though no complaints about getting older, it beats all the alternatives I can think of :). ). Professionally, I work on Particle Accelerators, though I am not an electrician, I do have a pretty deep background in electronics engineering and robotics/automation, etc. I find myself in South Central Florida, in a very rural location. Not impacted usually impacted by hurricanes being almost exactly in the middle of the state (70 miles to each coast, and bonus, we have easy reach for some outstanding bass fishing as well as salt water on both coasts....my real passion :)). Anyway, thank you. I've been overthinking what to do for the power outages, permanent power wall or something like the Anker or Ecoflow. Your video put me over the edge, I love the look and flexibility, you nailed a very simple outline of all the key elements. Outstanding, thank you. your worksmenship is amazing!!! I do think probably the coolest feature that makes the panel so much more than a auto transfer switch is the fact that the AC coupling can *power the whole house* on the main panel, not just the critical loads panel, by feeding the solar power *backwards* into the house, balancing automatically without feeding power back to the grid, so your power bill can be nearly zero, or very close to zero. this is HUGE for DIY solar owners because you dont need any sort of weird net metering credits agreement with the power company.

Well, I think I should get 2 of those generators and all 12 batteries between the 2. Get one of the little home panels. Hook that up to the fuse box. And now to give me a few days of power when power goes out. Of course, I don't have a power line so I don't have power from the power company. And I only have solar generators. I was thinking about getting A. Gas propane one, but still haven't done it yet. I still like buying a solar generators. So I think I might stay with those instead. Cause they are cheaper. And they cost more for the unit, but they are cheaper on fuel.

@lys18057 ай бұрын
Many thanks!!. You re the first to showcase how this works and connects. Could you please answer this (cause no one else has, even Anker): In self consumption mode, how does the HPP know how to not output more than the main + backup centers need ? Is it getting readings from the CTs and adjusting the output constantly ?
@SpicerDesignsLLC7 ай бұрын
Good question. Yes, the only way i see that possible is with the CT’s on the incoming and if you noticed the internals of the home power panel there are more CT’s measure inputs and outputs as well. And you can determine how much you want the battery to discharge so you still have capacity for an outage. There is also another ct that they provide to install on the incoming PV conductor to measure solar input. I showed it in the video but didnt install because i dont have any solar yet.
@lys18057 ай бұрын
@@SpicerDesignsLLC got it, thanks. Not sure if u can answer this... Is there any chance that the town makes u install a knife switch accessible from the outside so that (in some severe fire or similar incident) they are sure you are not returning power to the grid?? Anything that ties and feeds your panel needs this according to some local laws - along with 100+ labels that say so - similar to solar GT systems... thanks a lot!!
@SpicerDesignsLLC7 ай бұрын
@lys1805 i dont believe thats required on this system. Dont quote me on that. Its supposed to only counter the utility usage, so if the power is out it has nothing to counter and it would be in backup mode which would isolate it from the main and only power the backup load in the separate panel. Im guessing that the grid tie solar portion would still have to be set up in a way that it cant back-feed though. I dont have much experience with PV systems.
@lys18057 ай бұрын
Thank you very much!! (Subd) And I totally agree on this. But for the town to approve they would need to be convinced about it. That's when I think they would say "i dont know how this thing works.. lets put a knife switch outside and kill it if we want to"..

@lmychajlukАй бұрын
Thanks for the video! Very thorough! I'm going to check out some of your other videos. Question - At the start of the video, you mentioned that you have a separate disconnect, and the existing SquareD QO panel is 'technically' a sub-panel. I have an almost identical SquareD panel with a disconnect out in back near the meter, and am thinking of adding a Solix system as a backup. Would re-routing the grid-power connections from the SquareD panel directly to the 'Grid' side of the HPP, and then connecting the 'Backup' side of the HPP to the existing panel be a valid configuration? That would make all available circuits available to the backup power w/ minimal re-wiring. In other words, do I really need a separate sub-panel for my backed up circuits? I do realize I may still want to feed the 'grid' through another nearby disconnect (w/ a breaker) before the HPP, but the end result would be the same electrically, right?
@SpicerDesignsLLCАй бұрын
@@lmychajluk theoretically you could do what your saying but the ct’s need to get their reading from the main feed and that may be too far. Its hard to say without looking at it.
