I wonder the efficacy of peppers treating alcoholism though. I know capsaicin interacts with endorphins, but alcohol works on the GABA a receptor, which I completely different. You would think it would be a lot safer and more sustainable for him to get on like chlordiazepoxide. Alcohol withdrawal can be very dangerous. No matter how addictive you are to heroin, you’re not gonna die from withdrawals unless you’re old or sick with some life-threatening illness. But with alcohol, the withdrawal can kill a perfectly healthy 20 year old. There could be some mechanism that helped prevent that, or he was on some medication assisted treatment, like benzodiazepines or chlordiazepoxide, and peppers just helped.

That's a really interesting back story. I've heard that they use capsaicin to treat something? I think it was pain? I've just heard it in another short about pain. Could've been addiction maybe, which would align with this story. Also, the video said that people who like spicy food are minor masochists. Lol

@@siberwolf1188 Ikr, but it's apparently so. I can't confirm cause I've never experienced any of the mentioned symptoms to use as a relief, but kind of makes sense; using a minor pain or something to distract from something else imo. I thought it was interesting cause I just heard another short about something else, but the information was relevant to this 🤷😂

Capsaicin is actually shown to reduce appetites! "Studies have found that capsaicin can increase your metabolism, which increases the rate at which you use energy and burn fat stores. It can also lower your appetite, which may help you eat less than you normally would."
