I love how his mom‘s speech has multiple meanings. She says that he should never let someone tell him he doesn’t belong, and of course we think that means because of his upbringing and the color of his skin, he’s likely to face a lot of uphill battles and people telling him what he “can’t do.” But then Miguel literally says he doesn’t belong there. But Miles isn’t about to let that stop him either. What a perfect film.

I absolutely loved Spot because he’s the first “scientist turned into a monster during experiment gone wrong” character who actually ACTS like a scientist. He’s constantly experimenting and picking apart the broader applications of his powers over the course of the movie. And unlike every other supervillain (who usually just tolerates having a kryptonite) when he realises he can run out of holes, he quickly brainstorms a way to get rid of the weakness by recreating the accident that transformed him on a much larger scale. He's far from the joke everyone sees him as.

There’s another earlier hint that miles is in the wrong universe that calls back to the first movie. Miles’ universe doesn’t have comic con, revealed by when Peter says save it for comic con and Miles asks what that is. Turns out Earth 42 has it as well when his mom asks if it’s a comic con costume and he again asks her what that is

I just wanna clarify something about Miguel. He's NOT vampire adjacent. Those fangs are to inject venom into his foes. His powers are more spider-adjacent but in different ways than the other spider people.

and he has to replenish his Spider powers every now and then, which is what that vial/injection was his claws are like barbs that enable him to climb shit like other Spider people since he can't naturally do that himself, his "webs" are made of hard light and doesn't follow the laws of physics like most other Spider people's, and he lacks a Spider Sense, _again_ like most other Spider people do I think exclusive to Spiderverse tho, his suit is also made of hard light/nanotech, instead of being typical skintight spandex/cloth

I recently read Miguel's comics, and none of the canon events he imposes on the other spiders happen to him. Hes not even bitten by a spider, he has his DNA spliced with a spider's in a machine. Im sure the writers of this movie know this so I'm curious if it plays into the story in the third movie. Also his fangs have paralyzing venom, which he wanted to use to stop vulture and that he probably was going to use on miles if he'd gotten through the go home machine barrier. Scary dude when he's pissed, he's killed a couple villains in anger before in the comics using those claws of his.

Upon rewatch, the convo between Miles and his mom is hands down the best scene, especially when we see how Gwen is unable to stand up to the pseudo-peer pressure of the Spider Society since she (at that time) did not have a stable or reassuring home life to fall back on or look to for self-confidence.

Although it’s setting up for the next movie. It still did it’s job at wrapping up the plot it was supposed to. Miles sacrificed his need and obsession of becoming like the other spider-men just like in the first movie, but instead of his own identity “what makes a spider-man”. It’s now about the “what would my spider-man do” and he shows he’s willing to fight for. “Can you get back up when you get knocked down?” Which is the sign of a ready spider-man

Since Rees brought it up with his little editor's note, it's not that Marvel can't make up their minds on what universe the MCU exists in, it's that the original 199999 designation did not come from anyone involved with the creation of the movies, but instead came from the comics side. But the intention was that it was always an adaptation of the 616 comics universe, and that is why it has FREQUENTLY been referred to as 616 in the MCU, and why 616 has been sprinkled throughout the MCU even before the Multiverse Saga. It's referred to as 199999 in Across the Spider-Verse and Iman Vellani because they're not only accustomed to the 199999 designation, but they also don't see the MCU as an adaptation of 616 and rather a universe that exists alongside it. But Marvel Studios has always been consistent with the designation.

On my first watch for this movie, I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed by the wild animations. Though, the pace seemed really fast & nearly every line of dialogue felt dense. I started to catch on that this was a part 1 of 2 or middle movie in a trilogy once they explained Miles landed in universe 42. Like Rio said, “don’t get lost,” I noticed the movie used Chekhov’s gun style of writing. Now that came back around, they’re basically Empire Strikes Backing it! 😂

The way I see it is that since it's a multiverse each universe might have different designations to the other universes they discover. I can only imagine how many universes probably call themselves "Universe 1". I think it was just a playful nod to the comic book readers that the universe Dr. Strange visited just happened to call the main MCU 616 but it might just be that universes that calls them that.

Also just to clarify, he is not part vampire. That was just a joke they made in the movie becuse he has fangs which can secrete paralyzing venom.

He sure acts like a villain in this movie. Doing almost the same thing as Kingpin did in the first movie. He may not be a villain in the comics, but the movies are not necessarily the same as the comics. Here, he is in fact, a villain. He will probably get some kind of redemption in the next movie, though.
@vkdragonfire2123
@vkdragonfire2123 Жыл бұрын
@@PhilBagels What Miguel did was not the same as Kingpin on a fundamental level. Kingpin tried to rip a version of his family from an alternate dimension to replace the family he lost due to his own mistakes. Miguel went into another dimension to try to gain the family he never had (additionally, we never see Gaby's mom in the footage, so it's possible she would have been orphaned when the alternate Miguel died and he didn't want that to happen to her). He is not, in fact, a villain - he is in fact an antagonist, which is not the same thing. His ideology opposes Miles (the protagonist), and while he was unnecessarily cruel to Miles in his anger, the source of his anger is his fear that the terrible consequences of his mistake will happen again through Miles' own potential mistake. He doesn't do anything out of pure maliciousness or selfishness like a typical villain would - he has a misguided sense of responsibility for the whole multiverse and he's clearly cracking under the pressure.
@PhilBagels
@PhilBagels Жыл бұрын
@@vkdragonfire2123 I didn't say he did the exact same thing, I said he did "almost the same thing" - tampering with the multiverse out of his own selfishness and grief. I didn't say he was a "typical villain", I said he was a villain. Which he is. He does evil. He opposes the fundamental moral principle of Spiderman. Instead of "With great power comes great responsibility," he believes, "There is no great power, nor great responsibility. Don't bother trying to save anyone's life, because they're fated to die and you'll only make things worse." That is a villainous philosophy. Ange says in her commentary "Now Mr. Stacy doesn't have to die." Of course he has to die. All humans have to die. It's only a question of when and how. It makes no sense to believe that the entire universe will be destroyed because one human dies a few short years earlier or later than some supposed predetermined narrative. I can certainly understand how when a loved one dies, you can feel like it's "the end of the universe". But it really isn't. Life goes on. Take the time to mourn. Go ahead and cry. Lean on your friends and loved ones. Eat something, get some sleep. Pray. Get through it. Eventually, you'll be able to move on. Remember them with love, take inspiration and comfort from the life they led. Know that others will feel the same way when you die. Do not take your grief out on the rest of the world. That's what a villain does. Especially Spiderman villains.

I think this is the prevalent opinion on how they are going to solve the canon issue for Miles, but if that's true, I don't think that's a very good solve... and kind of a terrible one. Miles is allowed to do whatever he wants in his universe because he is an anomaly, yet every other Spider-Man has to follow cannon because they aren't? That's kind of terrible. The solve, while obviously going to be rooted in Miles, has to be a way to solve the cannon events in every universe to be truly meaningful.

@@vlonewolfv Yeah odds are Miguel will have been wrong in more ways than one - we heard from him and Peter B that his new universe was destroyed by breaking canon, but we have very few details about that. The only place we actually see what he suggested was in Pavitr's dimension, but that wasn't the universe collapsing, it was literally just a big spot hole. It's like the line Miles said to Gwen when she first visited, when she practically told him the canon of their characters. "There's a first time for everything." I'd be very surprised if the ultimate takeaway isn't that canon is less important than we or the characters think.

Something I thought about on the train scene. Miguel says he doesn't belong and the spider that bit him was meant for someone else. But the spider that bit Miles came through the the collider before Spider-Man (Peter) would have destroyed the collider. So Miles would have been bitten no matter if Peter lived and destroyed the collider or not.

Seeing Ange run a marathon, or at least highlights (or hijinks) of it would make excellent content.

You’re now watching this movie? It’s been like 5 months ago since this was out in theaters and when it’s almost Christmas, you’re now watching this!? (I’m a little mad that you didn’t watch this earlier when it came out but it’s ok Spiderverse did happen during Christmas 2018 so l don’t blame you)

I mean she's already watched it twice in theaters before this commentary. She probably wanted to give it a little more time for her to forget a couple of things when she watched it for her audience.
