It's true. I really liked Guardians 3, I'm really looking forward to this movie, and I'm even pretty excited for The Flash. I'm not sick of comic book movies, I'm just sick of the handfuls of mediocre films and shows we've been getting bombarded with lately. We can tell the difference between what was made with passion, and what was made to fill a slate.

Well it’s a thing, 90% of comic books movies have not been nearly as good as this movie. And even the movies that are beloved still feel formulaic. This one is great but as others mentioned, is an exception

You know it's a good movie when after 2 and a half hours you're completely ready for another 2 and a half hours. I felt exactly the same. I've always been a massive Spider-Man fan, but we've had so many iterations of the classic, solo Spidey story over the years that it's a serious breath of fresh air for them to take the defining characteristics of a Spider-Character and put that into a whacky multiverse series. Particularly when it's done this well.

EXACTLY! I get the complaints of an abrupt ending, and it has become a common theme in recent movies to set up the next movie in the last frame of the movie, but this was a very refreshing cliff hanger that actually seemed well thought out and very much reminded me of how my dad and uncles talk about their experience watching ESB for the first time in theaters

the thing is, Empire feels like a complete film, this one (although I love tf out of it) doesn't. It's very clearly the first part of a 2-parter, which would be fine if it'd had a satisfying conclusion, IW is a good (kind of recent) example of a cliffhanger done right

@batman Dude, name another movie that does what this film does in the way that it does. And you can't just be like, "The animation was incredible but the storytelling was generic," because the animation is a _huge_ part of the storytelling here. They don't exist on separate planes. There's been so much fiction created that there's no way anyone can make anything wholly original anymore. What we can do is make that experience _feel_ unique and special by putting its used parts together in a way that creates a novel whole.

Makes you appreciate the spider glitching in the first movie hinting at Miles’s spiders secret. Also when Peter dies saving him Miles’s spider sense goes from purple to blue and red, illuminating how even our Miles was destined to become the prowler but this interaction changed his destiny

Can you elaborate more? I didn't quite get that part.
@alexanderdumas-
@alexanderdumas- 10 ай бұрын
@@msmarsi009 we know in the second movie miles whole body glitches when he’s in the wrong universe. In the first movie the spider that bites miles is glitching foreshadowing that it’s from another universe which we learn in this movie is supposed to bite the other Miles but because it didn’t he became the Prowler. Miles was destined to become the Prowler and the other Prowler Miles was destined to be Spider-Man. If you notice in the first movie when Peter saves Miles from the falling debris and dies from Kingpin there’s a moment where Miles and Peter use their Spider sense. The color behind Miles is purple, and the color behind Peter is red and blue like Spider-Man and in this moment we see Miles’s spider sense turn from purple into red and blue because Spider-Man has changed his destiny and inspired him to save people. This lead to his uncle dying so he never became the proper and his dad raising him so he became a good Spider-Man. This was supposed to happen to other dimension Miles but his Spider was sent to our Miles’s universe and they esssentially swapped destiny’s. The other Miles lost his father and was raised by the Prowler to become the Prowler since he never had a spider to protect the city, and our Miles became Spider-Man erroneously. It’s why Spider-Man 2099 called him “the original mistake.” When Miles destroyed the machine in part 1 and opened the multiverse he opened the road for others to mess with the multiverse and lead to the destruction of the 2099 universe and that Spider-Man’s family which lead him to create the Spider verse team

I was barely a year old when The Matrix dropped. I grew up only seeing it’s references, and hearing it in conversations, jokes, analyses, etc. I didn’t LIVE in the cultural/historical context that surrounded the release of that movie, but I feel like it’s something I’ve grown to reasonably understand after years of thinking about how people REACT to this movie. How it goes on, being relevant to film conversation to this day, ~25 years later. I only recently watched it for the first time, myself. On my TV on a day off, not in the theater. I may not have been able to have that 1999 experience, but I was able to picture myself in an old theater with a bunch of people seeing it’s climax for the first time and completely popping off. The VFX and stuff looks pretty dated nowadays, but for its time, it did its job and got some jaws dropped. People describe their first experience with the Matrix as being just that. “Jaw-dropping.” Amazing. Insane. Incredible. Left them speechless, contemplating the meaning of life and their place in it. On my couch watch-through, I was able to “get” why people felt this way, but I simply wasn’t there at the time, and wasn’t able to feel quite as captured as I would be in a present-day, my-own-life/era experience. I saw Into the Spider-Verse with low expectations. I wasn’t as invested in media as I am now, and I really only went by chance. Movies weren’t a big thing for me at the time. Even a Spider-Man movie, a character I’ve loved since before I could read, would have to catch me in the right time and mood for me to go to a theater on my own accord. I hadn’t even paid much attention to the trailers, I kinda just wandered in. When I walked out, I was hyped out of my mind. Damn near screaming out all of my favorite moments to my friends I walked out with, playing the songs back in my head, having every single Spider-Man memory I’ve ever had BEAM through my eyes and morph into a perfect representation of all the character has ever had to offer. I was happy, and every time I’ve watched that movie since has never failed to make me happier than before I press play. In contrast, ACROSS the Spider-Verse, left me completely speechless for about 45 minutes after it was finished. I walked home so overwhelmed with emotions I could barely focus my eyes. I had to just sit down and PROCESS, what the hell I had just seen, for an extra 30 minutes, before I could properly drive to my next stop for that day. I went to work the next day, feeling so inspired that I could barely keep still, I just wanted to rush my train home and practice drawing all day long. I’m 25 soon. This movie blew my mind all the way back to like age 7. The last time this superhero stuff actually felt like magic, like it was actually possible. If that isn’t a “The Matrix”-tier experience and then some, I don’t know what is. Within the next 20 years, a new generation of “Great” animators, writers, artists across all mediums and across all the world will be asked about their biggest inspirations, and they will point DIRECTLY to this movie, and it’s broader trilogy. I cannot wait to see, and be a part in the making of, a world of new creations directly inspired by Across the Spider-Verse, and the Spider-Verse movies as a whole. There is no better universe to be in than the one where these somehow manage to exist.

Miquel O’Hara almost comes off as a villain here because he can be so aggressive. You see his point but man, he needs to learn to chill a little bit. This movie is excellent. I really liked Miguel O'Hara in this. I think what they might be setting up with the sequel is a juxtaposition of his point of view vs Miles point of view. In this film we basically see Miguel as the bad guy, he is overly controlling, he has lost his way from his fanatical pursuit to keep the multiverse intact. And we get these teases of what might happen if a canon event does not happen as it is supposed to happen. And throughout the whole movie Miles is strongly pursuing that he will do what he feels right, and have it both ways, essentially he will try and bake two cakes so that he can have his and eat it too. (SPOILER) But I think now that he has landed in Earth-42 he will get a hard dose of reality, and see what happens first hand to worlds that leaps out of the canon. I think the next movie will go harder into seeing the potential consequences of Miles trying to force reality to his will. And I think by the end of the third movie he will have to let go. I think that might manifest in one of two ways: One is that he lets go of his father. The other is that he lets go of Gwen. I think there's a possibility that He will save his father and then basically "cut off" his earth from the web. What role will Miguel play? Well he will 100% gonna die redeeming himself. We will get a happy medium between the two ideologies, and he might sacrifice himself to bring that third vision to life. Possibly gifting this reality to Miles so that he can live being Spider-Man and have his father. And the cost will be every other Spider-person he has come to rely on. I'm just spitballing, but I think that's what they're building towards.

The complexity overall, yet simplicity in the detail. The colors that directly effect how you feel at the moment and hit those parts of the lizard brain memories. It's really like a psychoactive drug in that sense. The artists and studio itself should be so proud of this masterful work of art on screen. I just left the IMAX, I was highly entertained by this film. Superb animation, very bold, stylistic and innovative direction. I was awestruck by how much action they served in the whole runtime - money very well spent.

I think this was the first time in a long time that I felt I had seen an earned cliffhanger. If they had tried to fit all of this tale into one movie they might have had to truncate something, and I feel very strongly that this movie's standout scenes are improved by the fact that they have space to BREATHE!!

I saw this movie today and I can say that it was easily one of my greatest movie experiences at the cinemas. It takes you into a cyberpunky multiverse of madness&bliss!

Perfectly blends art and film. It’s perfectly both. You could hang this all in a museum. Every frame.

4:50 this point you made is exactly the perfect way to say that this movie was amazing. I went to go see this movie 3 times in the span of 72 hours and i would have GLADLY sat through another ~2-3 hours each session to see the 3rd film, even if that meant i would have had some sleep deprivation...

Yes! It was a cliffhanger that nonetheless nicely pulled together Gwen's character arc. It was great storytelling.
