The MCU exists within the Marvel comics omniverse as a separate multiverse to the comics multiverse. In the MCU multiverse, the main earth is 616.

So multiverse is not the correct term to describe the one that encompasses everything but rather, a multiverse is just a collection of different universes sharing the same space but where different events took place that caused them to split up into a different version of Earths/universes, (who knows how many) and the one that encompasses everything is called the omniverse. My best theory would be Mysterio noticed the events of Infinity War & Endgame. He noticed that Cull Obsidian & Proxima Midnight are killed, but then returned 5 years later for no logical reason at all. However, in Dr. Strange: The Multiverse of Madness, when the Multiverse is actually confirmed, our Earth also happens to be "616". I'd be curious to know how Beck managed to convince shield that he is from another world because he would have achieved some level of recognition by working for Stark industries since he is shown to be just offstage when Tony does his Tedtalk, they could have easily solved this by either having him get plastic surgery and just show a different man in the past offstage or have Beck constantly use his own tech to alter his face. There is no way that he worked for Stark Industries and was the project lead on cutting edge holographic technology with no one seeing his face or hearing his voice, and if shield took a second and did a google search they would have gone with the most logical conclusion that it's probably more likely that beck is from our world and is using tech he invented instead of being a wizard from a different universe.

The one thing that would make it make sense is isn't it revealed at the end of the movie that it was never the real Nick Fury but a skrull pretending to be him in his stead? If I'm remembering that right then it checks out because it's an alien trying to play the part of Nick Fury so he would be more easily manipulated due to him having limited experience on what's normal on earth.

I really, REALLY hate Mysterio. He's easily one of the most unlikable MCU villains. There's a good reason for Skrulls to not help Spiderman. By testifying in support of Peter, the Skrulls are revealing themselves. Public doesn't know anything about Skrull's existence and it would freak them out they are literally living among them through shape-shifting. After what Thanos did, I suppose their would be a strong demand to kick out any aliens, especially those who can shape-shift and look non-human. Also, SHIELD wouldn't want to publicize any operation that it was a part of. Peter worked for a spy agency and as a result, he was disavowed.
