Fun fact: In Peni Parker's universe, Richard and Mary Parker didn't die in a plane crash, so Ben and May adopted a child instead. Which means that when she says that her dad died, it was still Uncle Ben. Poor guy can't catch a break. Edit: After having watched the sequel, dang did I call it with this comment

Nothing I can say about this movie thousands of other people haven’t already said: best Spider-Man movie hands down, best comic-book movie, one of the most (if not THE most) groundbreaking animated films of all time. I mean, it broke the stranglehold Disney/Pixar and Dreamworks have had on that category at the Oscars that year, and that’s no small accomplishment ESPECIALLY for a superhero film.

James Gunn recently did a top five comic book movies for I want to say Variety or a company like that (it's somewhere on KZbin) and (spoilers for that video) Into the Spider-Verse was his #1 spot as the best comic book adaptation. In a list with stuff like Oldboy and the original Christopher Reeve 1978 Superman movie, from the guy who did all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as The Suicide Squad, and who is now set to basically be the DC universe Jon Favreau or Kevin Feige sort of figure and reboot that film continuity hopefully properly this time. Pretty huge praise from someone who's kind of fanatical about that sort of thing and really knows his stuff.

That line Spider-Ham says, "The hardest thing about this job is... you can't always save everybody." Really chokes me up, even to this day. In every single superhero story, someone important to them that they couldn't save (like Uncle Ben, or Gwen Stacy in the spider-Man comics,) is a traumatizing memory that stays with them the most, their driving force to do their very best and try not to let anyone else die. But it's an impossible task, the cruel reality, and a rather mature theme that I'm glad they touched on.
@TehFrenchy29

It's especially true for Spider-Man, the one Marvel hero defined by routinely having things go wrong in ways outside Spider-Man's control and unable to find real happiness as Peter Parker because he's too busy being Spider-Man or guilty about the problems he wasn't there to solve because he was spending time doing Peter Parker stuff. Like the line from Mission Impossible: Fallout about why Ethan and his ex-wife Julia aren't still together -- Ethan could never really be happy and relaxed with her because things would go wrong and he couldn't stop them. Or like the line Peter says in Spider-Man: Homecoming, that "when you can do the things [he] can and you don't, and then bad things happen ... those things happened because of you"; he cannot escape the need to save everyone he can, and his tragedy is that he can't save everyone despite always trying.

18:04 actually, this movie is standalone for all intents and purposes. It’s based on the Ultimate Marvel comics (where Miles Morales debuted), and it helps to have an understanding of the Spider-Mythos, but it’s not necessary. You can go into this movie blind, and all you would miss out on is a lot of inside jokes. There are a few shots that are *references* to older Spider-Man movies (mainly the Sam Raimi trilogy) but it’s made clear that everyone in this movie is a never-before-seen incarnation of their character. Every Spider-being we meet was created specifically for this movie, and the same is true for all the other characters.
@MaxWelton
@MaxWelton Жыл бұрын
22:35 no. That guy is The Prowler, a villain native to Earth-1610, Miles’ original reality in the comics. (The movie also takes place in a dimension called Earth-1610, but it isn’t in the same multiverse as where the comic books take place.) This movie does a good job introducing audiences to The Prowler, since the same character used that name in the Ultimate comics (the comic book version of Earth-1610 is also called “the Ultimate Universe”). Funnily enough, a version of Aaron Davis that *isn’t* The Prowler exists MCU. He was played by Donald Glover in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” That Aaron Davis was the criminal who told Spidey “The Vulture’s doing an arms deal on the Staten Island Ferry” and that’s all he contributes to the plot. Basically, this movie can be enjoyed in isolation even if you know nothing about Spider-Man. You won’t get a lot of referential humor, but Miles’ arc is still meaningful and relatable. There was no need to worry, but you didn’t know that yet.

19:30 this is the first time Ghost Spider (often called Spider-Gwen) has appeared in a movie. Gwen Stacy has been an important part of the mythos for decades. (The most important thing she did in the comics was die; a death that was adapted in Andrew Garfield’s movies.) But Ghost Spider is an alternate universe Gwen Stacy that appeared in the comics more recently. So yes and no. We’ve seen Gwen in movies before, but never as a superhero in her own right. Not until “Into The Spiderverse.”

When I was in high school back in the day, (80's) we had lockers. The year after I graduated my Brother started high school, and they ripped them all out so none of the students had lockers. This was explained away as a "safety policy." Which was nonsense of course. The students at the time complained and tried to get the policy reversed because "It was actually a health and safety concern for kids to be hauling around all those heavy books in a backpack." It didn't go anywhere of course because the lockers were gone and there was no way they were going to install new ones. Today it's less of an issue because they give every kid a Chromebook and load the textbooks on it. At least in the same school district.

The great thing about the Olivia reveal and that she's far more involved in the collider than it seems is that the movie gives you all the clues you need to piece it together yourself. - When Peter Parker does his montage at the start of the movie you see a Doc Ock tentacle, except it's that rubbery texture. - Olivia's glasses in the film shown at school are octagonal. - The voice that goes "connecting to five separate dimensions" is Olivia's. - When they break into her office the light fixtures are octagonal and there's a part of a rubber tentacle on her desk. - The restraints on the chair are octagonal as well. Aaron/Prowler is from the Ultimate Universe, where Miles is also from, and in the comic, he was just a cliché villain who tried to kill Miles. The movie gave Miles such a better character story and vastly improved every character in the comics. The building that Miles ascends by with a "WOOOH" is the same building he fell down from earlier with an "ARGHHH!"

Here is my second comment, and it’s regarding this film. Miles is Afro-Latino. He’s African American through his father Jefferson (or Jeff) and Puerto Rican through his mother Rio. Given the reputation that Sony Pictures Animation has compared to other animation studios, some people feared that it wasn’t going to be successful. However, it exceeded many people’s expectations, made more in the box office than it was spent on, and introduced many people to Miles and other Spider-Heroes. Over the past two years, many other reactors have also watched this movie and given their own positive thoughts about it. Those include but are not limited to Mary Cherry, Natalie Gold, Sebscreen, Alex Hefner, Addie Counts, Rico & Monica, AkinReacts, Maple from Diegesis, Laila Naema, and Don Townsend. What’s still peculiar to me is that they implemented comic books in a comic book film. It’s kinda ironic because that’s not something usually done with superhero comic book films which have become the norm. The entire film itself is one massive comic book. From the speech bubbles to the text boxes to the panels to the splash art, it’s almost as if us the audience are flipping through the pages as we’re watching the film. @11:38 This is the most wholesome Stan Lee cameo ever. This film premiered about a month after he passed away. Some of the voice actors would go on to portray live-action characters in Marvel Studios Phase 4: 1.) Bryan Tyree Henry who voiced Miles’ father Jefferson would portray Phastos in the Eternals. 2.) Hailee Steinfeld, the voice behind Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, would portray Kate Bishop/Hawkeye II 3.) Kathryn Hahn, who lent her voice as Doctor Octopus, would portray Agatha Harkness in WandaVision. And this is phase five, but Mahershala Ali, who voiced Aaron Davis/Prowler, is gonna be the MCU’s version of Eric Brooks/Blade. (Aaron Davis was portrayed by Donald Glover/Childish Gambino in Spider-Man: Homecoming) @27:28-@28:22 this scene continues to be one of the best superhero moments ever. Miles got the confidence he needed to hear from his father, creates his own Spider-Man suit, and takes the leap of faith with What’s Up, Danger playing in the background. His origin story culminates with his own signature comic, and his first solo swing run shows that he’s finally prepared to fulfill his calling. There are two sequels on the way. The second film Across the Spider-Verse will premiere next week. In March 2024, we’re getting Beyond the Spider-Verse. Oscar Isaac voiced Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 in the post credit scene, and he’s gonna have a prominent role in Across the Spider-Verse. (Oscar was also Moon Knight in the MCU.) There’s also a Spider-Woman spinoff in the works with Hailee expected to return as Gwen. And finally, late musician Juice WRLD collaborated with Seezyn in the song called Hide. Juice would have been 24 today.

The bubbles you see in when the portal is opened is based on Kirby Krackle, a detail invented by legendary comic artist Jack Kirby who worked with Stan Lee during Marvel's silver age and co-created Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Nick Fury, X-Men and Black Panther among many others. Another interesting thing the animation does is mimics offset printing, a method of printing that comics used where colors were printed in multiple passes sometimes causing them to misalign. The movie misaligns colors in the backgrounds to indicate depth of field or motion blur.

@0:21 I don’t normally do this, but I’m gonna make two separate comments. This first one is regarding Ms. Marvel. I wanted to share my thoughts and some facts about the show, but since the reactions are Patreon exclusive I thought this would be the best way to do so. I apologize since a lot of information to take in, but I hope you take the time to read it. Here goes: The Ms. Marvel tv series was Iman Vellani’s first major acting role. She heard about the auditions through her aunt. Iman originally didn’t want to become an actress, but she decided to take a chance and audition since she grew up reading the Ms. Marvel comics. In fact, she cosplayed as Ms. Marvel for Halloween a few years ago. She even got her grandma to sew the signature lightning bolt to her costume. On the last day of her high school senior year, she got a call from casting director Sarah Halley Finn saying she needed her in a video chat. Next thing Iman knew, she was talking with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and the producers and directors of the show. Kevin himself said it was a unanimous decision. In the comics, Kamala is an Inhuman who can stretch her limbs. They changed the origins and function of her powers in the MCU for two reasons: 1.) She would have been too similar to Mr. Fantastic. 2.) Her idol is Captain Marvel who specializes in cosmic energy. As an Agents of SHIELD fan, I personally have a higher appreciation for this show. It’s a bit of a bummer that’s she not Inhuman, but I’m totally fine with it at the same time. This is the MCU after all. It doesn’t always have to replicate the comics 100%. The more unique the story, the better. (Also, I wish I had a fun and upbeat counselor like Mr. Wilson when I was in high school. His motivation was something I really needed at the time.) As of now Pakistan doesn’t have Disney Plus yet, but they didn’t want anyone in Pakistan to miss out. So what they did was premiere two episodes per every two weeks in movie theaters. I first heard about the Partition of India in middle school. I don’t remember much, but I know for a fact that we also didn’t really learn much about it to begin with. Even Iman herself admitted that she didn’t know much about the Partition until she started doing her own research prior to filming. I didn’t notice it the first time I watched episode 3, but in the 1942 flashback the Clandestines were standing on top of the Ten Rings logo. I was made aware when I saw the Normies’ reaction to that episode. Suraj and Damarin pointed it out. There’s no confirmation as to why the bangle was in Ten Rings territory, but my guess as of now is that Shang-Chi’s father Wenwu collected powerful artifacts he thought would be useful in the long run. He was all about conquering until he would meet his wife 54 years later. “Good is not a thing you are. It’s a thing you do.” That quote is directly from the comics. I believe it was issue #5 of the 2014-2015 comic run. It was even told to Kamala by her father Yusuf in the recent Avengers game. During the wedding afterparty, the camera zooms in on one particular partygoer clapping to the music. It’s Sana Amanat, one of the original co-creators of Kamala Khan and also one of the executive producers for the show. Due to Pakistan’s political climate, they weren’t able to film in actual Karachi. So they improvised by filming in Bangkok, Thailand as a stand-in. Waleed is going down as one of my favorite mentors in the MCU. The city chase in episode 4 was one of the best action scenes of the show in my opinion. I also loved how Kamala puts her costume together as the story goes on. In episode 4, I was particularly moved by Sana’s art studio. Hearing about her struggle with her own identity also struck a chord. I can’t imagine what it’s like for someone to lose so much and recreate whatever possible through memory. For me, episode 5 was the most emotional. I almost cried when I saw Aisha on her last knees after Najma stabbed her. Kamala doesn’t condone what Najma did, but she doesn’t want payback either. Instead, Kamala reminded Najma that it wasn’t too late for her son Kamran to live a life of his own. My favorite parts about episode 6 were seeing Kamala’s friends following along her plan, the community including the cops stepping in to help her, and Kamala’s heart-to-heart with her father which gave rise to her superhero codename. The term “embiggen” is Kamala’s signature move. Originally, it allowed her to grow up to the size of a giant similar to Ant-Man. Just like him though, she can’t maintain a giant form for long. When Bruno said Kamala had a mutation in her genes, you could hear a sample of the intro music to X-Men: The Animated Series. The continuation X-Men ‘97 will arrive later this year. It was also sampled in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when Charles Xavier/Professor X appeared. I know we’ve been saying this time and time again, but I would recommend checking out the live-action X-Men movies down the line. In the comics, Kamala was originally supposed to be a mutant. They wanted to include her in the MCU at some point, but at the time they were creating her 20th Century Fox still owned the character film rights to X-Men, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four. So they decided to increase her chances by writing her as an inhuman instead. However, after Disney acquired Fox, they were finally able to move forward with the original plan. The Marvels is a movie set to premiere Friday, November 10. They’re a trio made up of Carol, Kamala, and Monica Rambeau from WandaVision. It was originally slated for July, but they decided to postpone it so the post-production team has enough time to get the special effects in order. In the meantime, now that you’ve seen Ms. Marvel, I can elaborate on an upcoming animated show called Marvel Zombies. It takes place in the zombie apocalypse dimension from What If season 1 and it follows the events of that same episode. It’s gonna be TV-MA (17+) since they promised it’ll have way more gore. The reason I bring this up is because Ms. Marvel is the most recent MCU character who will join a zombie resistance. The rest of the lineup confirmed so far consists of the following: Jimmy Woo Yelena Belova Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian Shang-Chi His best friend Katy Chen Death Dealer (the Ten Rings operative with the white mask) And last but not least, Kate Bishop/Hawkeye II. The first season of Marvel Zombies will consist of four episodes slated to drop about one year from today.

My favorite Spider-Man movie so far, it just has such a different feeling than the live action ones, and I am looking forward to "Across the Spider-verse". I am bit a surprised that you didn't comment about Nick Cage being Spider-Noir (at least in this youtube edit). But yeah, even beside him, there were quite a few reognizable names in the cast.

I LOVE this movie. And loved your reaction! And actually, to your point, this film DID start a wave of other animated films in a similar style. (Or at least appears to have started- because some just so happened to release afterwards), like ARCANE (why you HAVE to watch!), the upcoming TMNT ninja turtles 🐢 movie, and of course the sequel to into the Spiderverse you just mentioned releasing in June! 🙌🏾 ⚡️

Spider-Man has been meeting his multiverse selves on a regular basis, practically for as long as there has been a multiverse in Marvel. For those of us who grew up with the comics and/or older cartoons, we're very familiar with this.

All of these movies draw inspiration from comic book storylines. Spider-Verse was an event comic. Miles is also an adaptation from the comics. So every movie is technically spoiled well in advance, this also refers to all upcoming comic book movies also.

The look of the animation was to represent an off-center printing of a comic book. The colors didn't always line up. I feel this is the best way of showing this character, since it is right out of the comic pages. Now plans are for a 'live' version of this, which you can see will be really difficult to reproduce. Also, best way to watch this animated series is in Real 3D !

Just get a 3D projector. Then you don't have to deal with not being able to pause, people talking, not being able to eat and drink what you want, when you want, missing stuff with toilet breaks, etc. Epsons are cheap and has great 3D. And the screen gets just as big if you just sit close enough, though do recommend at least 120"

I know it's easy to forget but Spiderman has been around since the 1960s. Spider Ham Peter Porker was created in the 1980s. The multiverse has been around for a long while. Movies are not even new as the first Spiderman movie was in the 1970s. So plenty of stories to go around.

9:45 - Kingpin has been in some Marvel shows I don't think you've watched, like DAREDEVIL and HAWKEYE. Actually the interconnected shows DAREDEVIL / JESSICA JONES / LUKE CAGE / IRON FIST / DEFENDERS / PUNISHER are some of the best Marvel ever, imho. (DAREDEVIL also appears in SHE-HULK and the upcoming DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN.) 10:41 - If you want to see more animation in this style, well of course there's the sequel, SPIDER-MAN: *ACROSS* THE SPIDER-VERSE, coming out soon, which looks like it's going to be even more this than this is. But some of the episodes of STAR WARS: VISIONS are also similar. (Each episode of STAR WARS: VISIONS is made by a different animation studio. And each episode is only about 15 minutes so it's not a big time investment.) 23:29 - Donald Glover's character in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is the same person as The Prowler, though he's not called that there.

You keep thinking Miles is some kind of alternate reality Peter. He's not. Peter does not always become Spider-Man in every dimension, just in most of them and sometimes its a Peter adjacent character with the same name or similar name. Sometimes is someone completely different. Miles is not an alternate reality Peter so his story is not going to be the same. Peter already existed and died as Spider-Man in this universe, Miles is picking up the mantle but his story is his own. There might be similarities in themes to tie him to other Spider-people but he's not going to be Peter 2.0. Miles existed in the comics since the early 2000s in the Ultimate Universe in which Peter dies as well. Prowler has existed since then, this was just the first time he has been put into a film.

So miles universe is actually inspired by the Ultimate Universe even featuring the some universe Number of Earth-1610. We see a monster like Green Goblin which is inspired by his more Hulk mixed with Goblin look in the comics to the fact Miles came from the Ultimate Universe. There are big differences though for example Miles origin has nothing to do with the multiverse. Peter Parker does die in the Ultimate Universe which mourns the loss of Peter Parker and Spider-Man leading to Miles becoming the new Spider-Man. It wasn't until later that he got involved with the Multiverse in the Spiderverse comics and then with the whole Secret War event. Peter is also not blonde in the Ultimate universe but does have a unique hairstyle and look. Miles universe is also got alot of differences from spellings like Coca Cola being spelled with a K while the NYPD is called the PDNY. But in the comics the Ultimate Universe is much closer to our own world in terms of brands and pop culture. Peter B Parker is said to be from Earth-616 but it's no doubt inspired by the main Marvel universe. This Peter's world is much closer to our own.

Before they ever made this movie or No Way Home, there was a comic book event called "Spider-verse" (2014-2015) that involved a massive crossover of Spider-people across the multiverse, including pretty much every one in this film and many, many more.
