This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, released in 2018 and directed by Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, and Rodney Rothman! This is now easily my favourite Spider-Man movie ever. The animation, the voice acting, the music, the FUN! I was also NOT expecting Nicolas Cage to be in this cast, so that's cool. This film is such an enjoyable ride and I can't wait for the next one! Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching!

That scene is one of my primary examples for how AI script writing will never be adequate where the term "art" is concerned. It was animated that way for a purpose, and an algorithm will never be able to do the same.

Dunno if anyone said it but when Miles first gets his powers, he moves at 12 frames per second but once he gets it figured out, he moves at 24 frames per second like the rest of the spider “people”. So that was a cool detail the animators did.

Fun fact: "Scorpion" has appeared in the MCU.. Technically. As has the Prowler. Both in Tom Holland's 1st appearence as Spiderman. Scorpion aka Mac Gargain was a weapons dealer Vulture was dealing with. He appeared in the post credits scene for Homecoming asking Vulture if he knew who Spider-Man was, with Vulture not giving Peter up. The Prowler, or uncle Aaron, was played by Childish Gambino, and Peter interrogated him by sticking Aaron's hand to the hood of his car. Aaron gave up Vulture to protect his "Nephew who lives near by"... Or Miles!

When this first came out, I wasn't excited and thinking 'oh, boy. Another movie.' Twenty minutes in, I bought into it. Fifty minutes in, I was craving the next dozen sequels. (If they ever make a dozen sequels.) This far exceeded my wildest expectations.

I'm sure someone somewhere mentioned this already but that original Spider-Man at the very beginning was indeed supposed to be Toby's Spider-Man but something happened along the way and we ended up with Chris Pine voicing him. He did a good job with the limited time we had with him at least.

[Although this movie came out in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame was 2019 I saw this second.] I thought the “Avengers… Assemble!” was the greatest moment in (super hero) movie history. Then I saw Miles’ “leap of faith”. I’ve never been a huge fan of Spider Man, but watching Miles become Spider Man is (for me), the best thing I’ve ever seen in Superhero cinema history! I’m really excited for you to see Across The Spider Verse.

Always geeked when someone watches this movie for the 1st time. I saw this in theaters and I can honestly say this movie only gets better in time. I just gotta say.. I've been reading Marvel comics since I was a kid, about 25yrs, this is the best Spider-Man movie to date, only to be followed by its sequel. It captures the essence of Spider-Man that's been the focal point of the character for decades. The aesthetic, the dynamics, the humor, the colors, the playfulness, the endearment and most of all the heart. Best Spider-Man movie of all time.

In the comics, Miles is from the Ultimate universe. Marvel introduced reimagined versions of all their characters. Fans initially freaked out when Peter died, but Peter in the main universe still exists. They eventually brought Miles to the main universe as well. Part of the inspiration for Miles was Donald Glover. He lobbied to play Spiderman in live-action. He even wore a Spiderman get-up in an episode of Community. He went on to play Uncle Aaron in Homecoming.

🕸 This is one of the rare Perfect movies. I'm ashamed to admit that up until I watched this movie (and watched an analysis video on it because I was blown away by how good it was)... I had only ever watched superhero movies to be entertained. This story opened my eyes and enabled a much deeper appreciation for not just the growth and development of spiderman, but for the character arcs of all of the comic book superheroes. I didn't read comics growing up so I think I missed out on some stuff. It's not often I come across something that is actually, tangibly life-altering. But this movie was one. It's now one of my go-to feel-good movies (right up there with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which isn't as good but it means a lot to me for personal reasons... plus it has boatloads of charm). 🕷I will say one thing about the next one... Across the Spider-verse, and I won't spoil anything by saying it... I missed a lot on my first viewing. After the first time I saw it, I thought it was okay but not as good as Into the Spider-verse. I was wrong. It's just as good.

This whole film is a fun little love letter to Miles Morales as a character. Miles first appeared in Ultimate Comics: Fallout #4 a comic book series that showcased the world's reaction to the death of Spider-Man of the Ultimate Universe. Miles showed up wearing a classic Spider-Man costume only revealing his face to the reader during the last panel of the comic highlighting that there’s a new Spider-Man. This storyline acts as the inspiration behind this film with Miles's home universe Earth-1610 using the same designation as the Ultimate Universe also known as Earth-1610. What is the Ultimate Universe? Well back in the late 1990s Marvel wanted to find a way to bring in a new generation of readers while also going back to the Stan Lee Era of Marvel when these characters were young and fresh. So they came up with the idea of creating a new continuity that would re-imagine and modernize iconic Marvel characters for the 2000s. The Ultimate Universe began with Ultimate Spider-Man in the year 2000 followed by Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four, and finally The Ultimates, this universe's version of The Avengers. Spider-Man's run lasted from 2000 up until 2011 when a 16-year-old Peter Parker was killed by Norman Osborn and his Six outside of Aunt May’s house. Peter dies surrounded by Gwen, MJ, Johnny, and Aunt May. Then in 2011 Miles came into the picture and took up the mantle of Spider-Man. The film for the most part does a lot of things differently so it’s very much it’s own universe. For one Peter is 26 in this film, blonde with blue eyes a big standout to other renditions of the character. He’s killed by Kingpin involving a Super-Collider test where he meets Miles as well. Ultimate Peter Parker of course died at 16 and had brown curtains for his hairstyle. Ultimate Spider-Man also didn't meet Miles before he died so everything surrounding Spider-Man’s death is very different. Green Goblin though is closer to his Ultimate universe counterpart. Here Norman Osborn used the Oz Serum on himself, a re-creation of the Super Solider Serum that gave birth to Captain America. But instead of turning him into a super solider in the vein of his mainline comics counterpart it instead turned him into a hulking monster that visually looks like the Hulk mixed with a demon or goblin. For this film they kind of combine both designs by giving Goblin his classic purple hat and even his face looks like the classic Goblin mask just instead of a mask it’s his actual face. I prefer the man behind the suit Goblins but Ultimate Green Goblin was a nice change. The whole Spider-Verse aspect does happen in the comics but after Miles Morales becomes Spider-Man, has nothing to do with his origin story. Miles did meet the Mainline Spider-Man of Earth-616 who was transported into the Ultimate Universe. He acted as a mentor to Miles for a little while, 616 Spider-Man was mid to late 20s so he was much more mature and experienced. Later Miles would take part in the Spider-Verse comics where he’d team up with Spider-People from across the universe with characters like Spider-Gwen, Spider-Noir etc.Miles and Spider-Gwen are also pretty close in the comics as well. Another change is how Miles Universe is a warped reflection of our own. It features alternate brands like Koca Soda instead of Coca-Cola. We see the NYPD being called the PDNY. There are a lot of fun little alternate-universe versions of real-life stuff to show that Miles universe is different from ours, beyond having superheroes. While the Ultimate Comics reflected our own world and tried it's best to be more grounded in a post 9/11 world. It had references to many real like pop culture movies, characters, brands, actors etc. Nick Fury even brought up Samuel Jackson as someone he'd like to see play him in an Ultimate's movies, Ultimate Nick Fury was based on Samuel Jackson. That takes us to Peter B Parker the older Spider-Man who mentors Miles in this film. He’s listed as being from Earth-616 used to refer to the Main Marvel Universe so he’s the closest Spider-Man to what we know from the comics. So he went through stuff like the death of Gwen Stacy, meeting MJ, Classic Green Goblin, Classic Doc Ock designs etc. But like Miles, he’s not the same Spider-Man from the comics but he’s close enough. MCU uses Earth-616 as well so it’s kind of being used to refer to the main universe of said media. So summed up this film kind of uses these already existing universes as a baseline for inspiration rather than adopting them one to one into an animated project. Changes thing up for fans of the Ultimate Comics.

Oh forgot to mention but Gwen does exist as well in the Ulimate Universe, Peter met MJ in Midtown High and Gwen later attended the school, creating a little love triangle between Peter, MJ, and Gwen but it didn't really go anywhere and Gwen and Peter just remained friends. Gwen's father would later be killed by a villain dressing as Spider-Man but Gwen unlike the mainline comics never died. So in theory with Miles universe in this film being based on the Ultimate Universe maybe Gwen is alive and well. So I could see being why Gwen kept her name hidden. Also a little sad that Peter B Parker who is based more on the Mainline Spider-Man didn't have any reaction to seeing a younger version of his dead ex girlfriend. Maybe because he would've met his Gwen Stacy during college around 18 to 19 so he'd have no connection to a 14/15 year old version of Gwen.

As much as Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse are excellent. No Way Home is still by far my favourite Spider-Man film. I love Miles Morales Spider-Man, but he doesn't come close to Peter Parker. Especially the Peter from the Spider-Man PS4 game.

Nice KL. I suspect you'll love this. I watched it on a whim and was stunned with how good it was. Great story, amazing visuals purposely made to mimic a comic book, and, they brought in my alltime favourite Spider-Man related character: Spider-Gwen. Alas, much like The Matrix, John Wick, Deadpool, numerous TV shows, they tainted it by making a sequel... Ah well, it's a business I guess...

This movie really is a landmark "Toy Story" moment in the animation medium. Anybody who was watching movies in the 90's remembers how insane of a jump it was going from films like The Lion King and Pocahontas to the 3D modeled world of Toy Story in 1995. This film seems like an equally impressive leap forward to me. Ever since then it seems like most big budget animation has just spent all this time trying to perfect that style with increasingly higher fidelity modeling and increasingly more complex simulation tech for physics, lighting, particles etc... Placing the safe bets instead of allowing creatives to really push the envelope, hats off to Sony in that regard. I'm glad you enjoyed this visual feast because it seems like they let the animators off the leash for the sequel, and they went BESERK! My only gripe with this masterpiece is Miles' suit, it looks like he's bleeding form his armpits... Thanks for the content! 🙂

My favourite live action Spiderman movie is Sam Raimi's Spiderman 2, but for animation? This was my favourite movie, period, of the 2010s. Pheeeenomenal. Never seen anything like it, until I saw the mitchells vs the Machines, which does employ similarly bombastic animation and is also an awesome movie. I love the style. Still not got round to seeing Across the Spiderverse though. Into the Spiderverse hit me so hard in the feels I wanna be feeling my best before I watch it coz it'll take a lot out of me emotionally lol

when miles comes into science class late and gwen is there, the educational movie they're showing shows an interview with liv octavius and the company she works at (arcemax? or something like that). also, there is a bit of foreshadowing in her design - her glasses are OCTAGONAL - as are the light fixtures in her office including the one that miles gets stuck to while upside down. also, notice that the times square neon sign is only COCA COLA in peter B. parker's universe. in miles' universe, it's koca soda or something. as well as law enforcement being PDNY. janky spider-man is "our" peter parker. comics are good but they're NOT this good. miles morales in the comics is MUUUUUUUUCH less satisfying and much less endearing. they did such a good job of using all of the MATERIAL of the comics and coming up with a novel story that is just so holistically satisfying and well weaved together. the idea of turning uncle aaron into the catalyst that uncle ben is for other spider-man's is inspired and not in the comics. this movie is just perfect.

I love the Spiderverse films, and I'm glad you're getting to experience them. Thanks for letting us experience them "for the first time" along with you. ❤ I love Miles' parents, and along with Kamala's parents from Ms. Marvel, might be my favorite Marvel universe parents. BTW, the actress voicing Gwen is the same actress that plays the new archer apprentice/sidekick for Hawkeye.

If you want to get into Spider-Man comics I highly recommend Spider-Man: Life Story. *"Spider-Man makes history! In 1962's AMAZING FANTASY #15, teenage Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and became the amazing Spider-Man! Nearly sixty years have passed in the real world since that event - so what would have happened if the same amount of time passed for Peter?"* This comic pretty much goes over the Earth-616 Spider-Man life story BUT in real time. Marvels mainline universe operates on a scaling timeline so events in the comics move closer to the modern day, so characters don't age in real time. For example Iron Man's origin took place during the Vietnam war but now it's a more modern day conflict. Peter Parker was bitten by a spider during the 2000s instead of the 1960s etc. Mover these events closer to modern day. So life Story does away with this and begins in 1962 with a 15 year old Peter getting bitten. Then goes in real time throughout the decades showcasing iconic storylines from Spider-Man comics and Marvel team up comics as well. So it's a great way to experience the best Spider-Man moments in real time.
