I think an incredibly underrated part of the leap of faith sequence is just how it shows Miles improvising a lot in his swing and run. There’s a part where he shoots a web like he’s going to swing, but it doesn’t attach to anything. But instead of overthinking it, he just continues in running like it never happened and just swings onto something else, showing that he’s finally not overthinking things and just letting himself live in the moment

personally, having watched the second movie twice, I found myself underwhelmed. like there were so many amazing thing I loved about it but I think the pacing was off to me because there were so many moments that seemed like climaxes but they weren't the climax, and the climax is the cliffhanger we are left at. I genuinely love the end of across the spiderverse and the uncanny atmosphere thats present when they realise what's happening (to avoid spoilers). and I love everything that happens in the movie, but to me -- I think the second movie MUST be watched with the third, at least for me. like it could be my bad memory showing, but just how much gets resolved here? but here's the thing. it makes me so EXCITED for the third movie. SPOILERS FOR ACROSS THE SPIDER VERSE I loved how you talked about Miles’ impact on Peter B, seeing as how this relationship is brought back up in across the spiderverse. I’ve heard people say how this movie flips the traditional mentor dynamic by having Peter not entirely sure how to best help miles. Not only does this make Miles’ moment of self discovery more powerful since he had to do it himself, it also shows how seeing miles come into his own helped Peter recapture the spark that he lost. Miles didn’t need Peter as a father figure. Peter needed miles as a son figure. And he even says this in the next movie, when he says how he wouldn’t have had Mayday if it hadn’t been for him. (It’s also a little funny that, between miles, Gwen, and peter b, peter is the one with the best work life balance and stable family)
@nicholaspeters9919 Жыл бұрын
Well, Peter B. has been at it a while longer, it probably didn’t take too long for him to get back into the swing of things after Miles gave him the push. And even still, there is that scene of him and MJ where he admits to still feeling nervous about all of it.

It's amazing how the next movie radiates what the previous movie has influence miles into this power house that he is. Even though he himself is starting to feel the spider man struggle, when he finally gets face face with his supposedly destiny miles realising this whole spider man suffering bit is stupid, and idk about you, but that feels like a straight up criticism with how marvel has been doing spider for so long making him struggle and suffer through hell no matter what. Miles is the voice that says "enough is enough, screw your canon" he's literally forging a happy ending for himself and building an example that no spider man across the spiderverse should ever think their suffering is normal, they must fight against it, and do what they set out to do, the right thing.

This movie and analysis especially the part where you talk about animation not being photorealistic speaks to so much plight artists face. As an artist myself and especially with the new craze of AI art, it’s so clear that a lot of people don’t take animation seriously. It’s always seen as a lesser art form. It’s for kids or it’s to juvenile, or so easy that you’d rather see a soulless robot pump out it’s stolen anime art than see an actual human making it. You see big studios cut animation budgets. But into the spiderverse is such a love letter to all forms of art. 2D and 3D. Writing, and music. It’s explicitly Human and a perfect love letter to the industry. No AI could have done this and the movie benefits so much from being animated. It leans into its comic book roots rather than hating and spending its time apologizing for being animated like many photorealistic anims are forced to. It’s truly one of the best and most effortfull sequel I have ever seen and has so much personality and representation. I hope that more animated films like this are given the budget time and love they deserve. Into the spiderverse is only the start of what animated films and comic adaptations are able to do. And I hope more people realize that art like this is made without AI.

One of my favorite moments of symmetry in the movie. When Miles buys the Spider-man costume from Stan Lee he asks "What if it doesn't fit" displaying his trepidation over taking up the responsibility of Spider-man, "What if I'm not ready?". Stan replies "It always fits, eventually" seemingly as a joke but really its an assurance "You'll be ready, eventually." When Miles is assembling his suit at the end, May puts on the web shooters on Miles and says "See? Fits perfectly", or more accurately "See? You're ready." I love this movie

I'm a 61 year old man who is about 2 months older than Spiderman (I was born in May, he was first published in August, 1962). We grew up together. So, I was very apprehensive when Miles Morales took over the tights. Its smelled of more modern recasting of traditional heroes. Then I saw the first movie, and I was completely blown away. Miles is more Spiderman than any cartoon/movie version I'd seen before. Visually, the movie was so stunning it made my eyes hurt. When I heard of the second movie, I was "Don't Screw This Up." And, they didn't. The 2nd movie is every bit the story of Miles/Spiderman and it's every bit as visually stunning as the first. The visuals completely underline the emotional content. To address some of the criticisms I've heard: Does Gwen's story occupy to much screen time? No, she's an interesting character in her own right and her arc compliments Miles'. Are there to many characters? Maybe, Jessica Drew could probably have been done without. But, her character allows the delayed introduction of Miguel O'Hara, which increases his dramatic impact. Is there to much going on, on screen? I'm afraid the answer is, yes. There were certain scenes where there was so much going in the background that I had to decide if I was going to pay attention to it, or the narrative. Rather an embarrassment of riches, so to speak. Is The cliffhanger felt like a cheat. Not to me it didn't. I was exhausted by the end of the movie and needed to absorb all I'd seen.

An important thing thats even said in the directors commentary of the first movie is that miles didnt want to become spiderman he never wanted anything to do with that. I think thats important because it just adds to this fear of expectations getting forced into this position, being obligated to deal with these responsabilities just forces him to comfront the expectations set on him... a leap of faith into believing he´s capable of having all of that in his shoulders and SPOILERS FOR THE SECOND MOVIE I think that ties in perfectly with the themes of the second movie, that acceptance of who he is now might be taken away or worse he wasnt ever supposed to have all of that be part of his identity

Very true however we also get a sort of odd moment though as Miles confronts you know who he doesn’t seem phased after awhile. My favorite line is “she wanted kids. That scares me” it’s not that Peter doesn’t want kids, he does. But he can’t, because he doesn’t want them to be hurt

I did it as a double feature (I’ve seen the first one so many times bc it’s just perfection to me & I have so much love for the movie) but I wanted to watch the first one right before catching Across the Spiderverse & BABY……Did we as fans get a hell of a treat! The story, the voice acting, the music & THE FREAKING BEAUTIFUL ANIMATION!! Idk how but they managed to outdo the last one, Gwen’s universe looking like the watercolors from her comic books…chefs kiss 🤌 I loved it & for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet GO WATCH IT NOW YOU WILL LOVE IT!!! ❤🕷️🕸️❣️🕸️🕷️❤

After the next one comes out, this may go down as the most visually stunning trilogy of all time.

I haven't had the chance to watch the sequel yet. Now I am more anxious than ever

In my opinion, the one scene that truly elevates the movie and nakes it stand out above anything else is the scene where Mile's father talks to him outside of the dorm room. There's no arguing, no muffled noises from Miles trying to get hus father to help him, just a father pouring his heart out and telling his son just how much he really does love and care about his son. It's seriously up there on the same level of quality as the Holding Out for a Hero scene in Shrek 2 or the Po Finds the Truth scene in Kung Fu Panda 2

God, I love Into The Spider-Verse and Across The Spider-Verse so much, they are both so perfect, definitely two of my favourite movies of all time, I hope Beyond The Spider-Verse will be just as amazing as the other 2

This is such a wonderful breakdown of what makes this movie so great. Obviously Across TSV is on a whole other level technically, but until we see part 3, the full satisfying arc of the first film still wins me over.

This is the greatest American animated film of the century with the sequel a very close second. The sequel was the first film I saw in a theater in four years,

In my opinion, Miles's spiderman swing style is heavily influenced by the way Aaron moved as the prowler.

Well, Miles from 1610 was meant to be the Prowler but after seeing ATSV you know how everything went

It never occurred to me that the whole time Gwen had to deal with Peter B and the fact that her own Peter never got to become an adult. Just another layer of heartbreak to an already tragic story.
