My favourite version would be Spectacular Spider-Man, mostly because Steve Blum gives the Goblin persona a sense of theatricality and whimsy alongside the menace, there’s the fact that Norman is depicted as a ruthless businessman from the start, to the point he would frame his own son and fake his death to get out of jail. Unlike in other media where the Goblin is depicted as split personality, the Goblin persona is literally a mask, making Norman all the more despicable.
@novaspacewitch99633 жыл бұрын
Every time I hear the Gwen Stacy death story I'm like, there's literally no way Peter is responsible for her death. Even if she was killed by the whiplash, she would've been paste on the pavement if he hadn't tried. He gets a pass for killing Norman too. It's pretty much identical to saying MCU Spider-Man killed Mysterio.
@two43283 жыл бұрын
Well, in all truth he didn't have to shoot the web at that specific spot. There were other places the web could have hit. But yeah her death was unavoidable unless peter just decided to deal with Harry after getting Gwen to the ground.
@matthewschwartz66073 жыл бұрын
In the comics, Peter kills her by accident. But in the comics he DIDN’T kill Norman after! He was going to, but he stopped himself. Norman tried to impale Peter with his glider so that he would kill him, but Peter avoided it at the last minute , and it impaled Osborn instead.

What I would like to see for Osborn in the MCU would be a major villain in Phase 5. After going through the potential Kang arc with the multiverse, I would like for the MCU to downscale for a bit to focus primarily on Earth. The MCU has basically went from semi realistic to a society where heroes are now common place. Phase 5 can be the Dark Reign era in the comics in which Osborn is the leading figure in the hero community. He can produce villain mercenaries or promote false heroes so that he can profit from superhuman conflicts.

I read/watched somewhere (Wisercrack? ComicTropes? I can't remember) that the real reason Ditko didn't like Norman being the Goblin was his Randian/Objectivist views on self-made men (like Norman) being the villain or viewed as negative.
@zrethor3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be surprised, while ditko was very professional most of the time sometimes his randian ideology would slip through. @matthewschwartz66073 жыл бұрын
Ditko was an objectivist, but his disagreement with Stan about The Green Goblin was due to Ditko just wanting the Goblin to be a nobody who was of no importance to Peter. Ditko thought that would be more realistic, Stan wanted the Goblin reveal to carry some emotional weight.

Green Goblin and maybe even more so Norman Osborne has always been one of my favorite Spiderman and Marvel villains... my top 5 Spiderman villains are 1 Green Goblin 2 Kingpin ( especially in TAS) 3 Hobgoblin 4 Venom/ Carnage 5 Doc Oc. Shout out to so many of them Shocker ( who was a childhood personal favorite), Chameleon, Kraven, Rhino, Mysterio, Scorpion, Vulture, Electro, Lizard, Sandman, Tombstone, Hammerhead, Aliester Smythe, Beetle, Hydro Man, Black Cat ( who is more of a hero or antihero like catwoman), Herbert Landon, Powler. Jack O lantern, Silvermaine and so many more... Also I love Spectacular Spiderman and get the love for it but Spiderman TAS is still my favorite. Also Ultimate Spiderman definitely is tiers below the other 2 shows but does have its moments. The team ups in thst show alone are worth it existing. The new Spiderman show after that is absolute trash tho... I tried so many times to watch it ( I even watch Spiderman and his Amazing Friends and the 80s cartoon) but just can't get thru it. Also that futuristic Spiderman show that replaced TAS is still my least favorite and hate it for replacing the far superior TAS.

Ok I know this might be a bit of an ask, but do you think you could do a comparison of Green Goblin and Hobgoblin? Would be interesting the see what exactly differentiates the two.
@Frogman12123 жыл бұрын
The main hobgoblin is Roderick Kingsley. He was a mastermind type who wasn't even revealed as Hobgoblin until years went by, framing Ned Leeds (employee of the Bugle) as Hobgoblin (after he was thought dead by the way) and hiring hitman Jason Macendale, as Jack O Lantern to do his dirty work, always being secret. Norman was dead and replaced with Harry when Hobgoblin started. When Norman came back to life he was revealed as the Orchestrator of the Clone Saga, which was literally 3 years of spider-man comics (real-life time.) So Osborn was retroactively made a mastermind type at that point, making Roderick Kingsley redundant. Also, Kingsley originally did not possess the goblin formula, so he wasn't as much of a physical threat, but eventually he perfected it, and gained the power of Osborn without the insanity. Harry Osborn died from using the Goblin formula without working on it like Kingsley.
