@@SilverHairedFreak25I’m going to summarize everything that happened to Ben after Clone Conspiracy: So first he had his own solo run, Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider. Remember in Clone Conspiracy it’s established that Ben went evil because he was tortured and killed 20+ times and went crazy? Well it turns out that Death herself shows up in front of Ben to tell him that because of this, he’s the person who’s been resurrected the most out of anyone in the Marvel universe, and because of that his soul is fractured, and THAT is what is making him evil. She tells him that if he gets killed and resurrected one more time his soul will forever be broken and he will forever be evil- but if he continues to do heroic stuff without being resurrected he can slowly heal his soul and become good again. So that’s his clear cut redemption path. Then the book got axed. So it ends with him unwillingly getting killed and resurrected by a 3rd party, and him angrily attacking Kaine sociopathicly, accepting his fate while a tear rolls down his cheek. Then a couple months later Spider-Geddon happens and they freaking throw that all away by saying THE ENTIRE THING was “Clone Madness” and after getting killed and resurrected AGAIN but in a “perfect clone body” he’s normal hero again. Sure. So what’s the purpose of the axe and the stupid retcon? Well you see, Nick Spencer just tried to retcon OMD and went against editorial for a long time. So while figuring out what to do with Peter now, they were like- hey Ben exists! Why don’t we replace Peter with him like the 90s and make him Spider-Man for a while and then after we’re done using him we’ll throw him away and trash him again? So that’s what they did. So right after Spider-Geddon magically fixed him, they immediately went into Beyond, where Ben took over as Spider-Man, ignoring all that soul stuff AND completely ignoring the continuity that he was evil in Clone Conspiracy. At the end of Beyond when they found a writing replacement in Zeb Wells, an evil organization mind blasts Ben and tells him to put a suspicious machine on Peter to get him to share his memories with him. Peter obviously refuses and Ben goes ballistic and gets knocked into… “quantum ectoplasm” or something. And now he’s “Chasm”, an evil person who has completely forgotten all memories he shared with Peter, and just wants revenge on Peter. That’s right, he went evil, got stupidly redeemed, just so they could trash him away to make him an even WORSE villain with less path of redemption than before. Dark Web is just a regular event, Ben was completely trashed on beforehand- this is just using Chasm as a normal villain. He teams up with Madylene Pryor(clone of Jean Gray) who also wants memories, and at the end of the event Madylene gets her memories back by Jean giving them to her and… for some reason doesn’t do the same to Ben. He’s then left in Limbo prison(Limbo is where Madylene is Queen of). There’s some hope though. Steve Foxe, the writer of Dark X-Men(and also a Ben fan) was writing a Limbo story and was like, “Hey Ben’s in Limbo, I want to use him!” So he asked Spidey editorial if he could use him and was shocked and astonished to find out that Spider Editorial had ZERO plans to use him after Dark Web and told him he could do whatever he wanted. So Ben had a cool appearance in Dark X-Men for like 2 pages that respected his character. And now after hearing that, Foxe is writing “Chasm: Curse of Kaine” coming later this month. Kaine literally has not been used well and ignored since his original Scarlet Spider run in 2012, I have high hopes that Foxe, after seeing Spider editorial’s disregard for these great characters, is going to write them with respect.
