It’s most definitely connected to the cartoon because of the animated show exclusive font on the title on adverts, the use of animated series key art in the manual, and specific villain looks from the animated series such as Smyrhe, the Spider-Slayers and Doc Ock’s armored costume. Good video though, I always struggled with this game renting it as a kid.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying there. This isn't a denial about the in-game content. It's referred to as "The Animated Series" by fans for a reason. However, that's also the thing I was trying to point out. Yes, there's fan service for viewers of the Animated Series, but no reference or connection to it in a public way. Kind of like Revenge of Shinobi having Godzilla, Spider-man, Batman, ect. So yes, it clearly has the Animated series inspired content, but they 100% made no attempt to connect it to the TV series in any public way. So unless you watched the show and happened to pick the game up, there would have been no way to know a show you loved had a game released that appears to be connected or inspired by it.
@TellYouHwaet4 жыл бұрын
@@Jenovi Guess I'm not sure I do understand what you were talking about. It was advertised as being based on the series, used the same theme song and was released shortly after the show started airing. The commercials even used animation from the series. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHO6oaibd99_Y5Y

Let me put it like this. Forget that you know anything about the animated series. Ok, now how would you know it’s connected to this game ? The commercial certainly didn’t state it was connected to the animated series. You’re coming from the position of someone who’s intimate with the cartoon. My point is if you’re not, how would you know? If that’s the case, was there any real connection outside of borrowed assets? Anyways, have a great day.

I know I’m late to this, but I think there are some hints that the game is indeed based on the animated series: -The character and costume designs are identical to TAS -That Alien boss, and that particular design for the Spider-Slayer machine, were only seen in TAS and toys based on it. -Sandman and Electro, two of Spidey’s most significant villains, are absent, just like they were from TAS, cause TAS didn’t have the rights to use them.

I don't see how anyone can describe this game as being obscure. I guess if you are not old enough to have been alive when it came out it may seem obscure. At the time it came out there was a fairly large marketing push in mags of the era and most spiderman fans at the tie were at least aware of it.
@Jenovi6 жыл бұрын
Not rare, but obscure. There are a couple reasons for this. First off, it's the last Spider-man game released for 16-bit consoles. For the Genesis in particular, Sega already had dropped support for it when the game released. Of the 16 bit Spider-man releases, it's the one I see least often followed closely by Separation Anxiety. Though it's generally considered less desirable than Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety, it still holds a high value similar to the two more sought after releases. The reason being it's not as common.

The connection to the animated series is superficial at best: the theme song, an exclusive character, the stock images in the manual (identified by Spidey lacking any sort of shading). Otherwise, it doesn't adapt any plot from the show, features villains that never appeared, and even predated the show's own usage of the Fantastic Four. My theory is it started out as a generic Spidey game and a decision was made to connect it to the show once it became a hit. Overall, I hated this game. The controls and plane swapping were annoying, and it was overall just ugly. I think the Genesis version at least LOOKS better, washed out colors and all, especially with some sweet Tom Lyle art on the title screen. But, yeah, this game just wasn't great.
