Apparently the Board were killed by a rare radiation bomb that was desgined by Oscorp for desert warfare. It makes sense when you think about it. Fighting in the desert there's a group of enemies or hostiles in your way shooting at you. You lob over the radiation bomb which emits a quick flash blast that disentegrates all targets in a small area. I remember reading somewhere Oscorp only manufactured a few of these because not only were they tempermental and dangerous but were all expensive as hell to make.
