I forgot that this series kinda sorta ties both the Rami Spider-man films and the Daredevil film into loosely the same continuity. With those rumors of Tobey Maguire having a cut cameo from the first Xmen film, it makes an pre-mcu marvel cinematic universe all the more stranger. I strongly believe that there was a very loose (and quickly abandoned) idea to tie all the early marvel films together before Ironman movie

I'm like 2 minutes in and you already touched on this, but I wanna talk about it. The thing that all the shows and movies for Spiderman seem to forget is that, as the persona develops, Peter Parker kinda stops "being" spiderman. Like the persona itself kinda gets away from him. When we get into his head we often get Peter thinking about how "Spiderman wouldn't have to x." or "Spiderman could just y." and that dichotomy in his brain is the thing that makes him so interesting. It's what lets him BE at odds with himself because Spiderman turns from a thing he wants to do, into a thing that he sees as an obligation to the city and his friends, and then it becomes an almost-split-personality that takes up a ton of his personal life to the point that he almost resents it. AND THEN that all turns on its head and he starts to admire Spiderman even though he IS Spiderman, and his inability to see himself as Spiderman makes him resent himself as Peter Parker (circling back to "Spiderman doesn't have to x or y" and "If I was Spiderman right now I could just x or y"). That was what made the venom arc work so well. Peter "turning to the dark side" because it made it easier to be Spiderman, and to be Peter Parker.

I hate cliffhangers. It's a shame this show was cancelled. The 90s Spiderman had a cliffhanger ending with Spiderman and Madam Web looking for Mary Jane. The Spectacular Spiderman had a cliffhanger ending with Norman Osborne still alive. The current Spiderman tv series had a cliffhanger ending with Doc Ock took over Spiderman's body and Spiderman is trapped inside a damaged robot body, I hope we'll see the next episode soon. There is a dubbed character that a lot of people loved called Sakura Avalon and she had a cliffhanger ending with her saying "Maybe there is hope. There is a petition trying to get her back. James, there is a script to the final episodes of 90s Spider that some KZbin animators use to make somewhat ending episodes (like moving comics pictures). Basically what happens is that Madam Web's chair gets broken and they get to past, where they will eventually find MJ, but there will be all the 90s cliche time-travel scenes and villains cameos...I think you can find script online... I managed to find only Russian version of the story, sorry but they guy used almost 95% of the show's footage instead of his own animations: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3aagYNjr9-UpqM

Just rewatched this series for the second time since watching it back in 2003. It's biggest problem is the fact that it does present itself as a sequel to the Raimi film requiring you to see the film to fully understand the show. And since the characters and tone don't match the film at all, it just doesn't make any sense. It should have just been it's own thing. The show is still great though, although I agree that the love stuff could have been handled better.

One thing you didn't note in the review is that during MTV's original airing, they boradcasted episodes in inconsistent times and out of order, something the DVD fixed. This might've been factor to the low ratings. In terms of potential, this is my favorite incarnation of Spider-Man. The narrative of his 2 identities collide with each other has never been as good as here. His actions as Spider-Man have long-term consequences to both of his identities. I know other incarnations also did this well, but not to the same extend as this show. SPOILERS AHEAD: Some of his actions caused people to die or be severly injured (directly and indirectly). These events make the ending of him quitting completely reasonable. If he can't protect people - and if he himself becomes danger to his surroundings, why keep going? They might as well be safer WIHOUT him around. However, they missed a small opportunity. Peter only reflected on his Spider-Man identity following Mindy's coma. He should've also looked at the deaths of Electro and the Lizard. While it is very unfortunate the ending couldn't resolve in later episodes, I think the creators deserved to make this ending.
@BullSession6 жыл бұрын
One thing do I like about the ending is that it's not a cliffhanger in the sense that the story isn't finished, it's just that the end is depressing as all get out.

@@srstriker6420 I have a petition for it And hope you u will sign in please and share this www.change.org/p/sony-pictures-television-make-season-2-of-mtv-s-spider-man-the-new-animated-series And well Here are what I wanna see in season 2 of mtv spiderman the new animated series... Indy alive and well from having a coma. Giving us explanation of how Peter got a job in a pizza place from spider-man 2 Peter returns as spider-man in a very cool way. Episodes from where we left off from season 1 to the first elements of the beginning of the movie of spider-man 2. Kingpin as the main villain in season 2 btw kingpin should be played by Kevin Michael Richardson and do the voice to sound exactly like Clarke Michael Duncan who also played kingpin from the movie of daredevil that also came in 2003 Featuring villains like rhino, shocker, the vulture, scorpion, mysterio (should be played by Bruce campbell btw), black cat, morbius the living vampire, and The hobgoblin The return of previous villains like the lizard, silver sable, kraven the hunter, Christina the crazy psycho stocker, pterodax (sergi) (Btw this villain is inspired by the vulture), turbo jet, and talon. Seeing other characters from the comics like Gwen Stacy, gwen's dad captain stacy, aunt may, flash thompson, j. Jonah jameson, Indy daimonji, t.v news reporter Alison Tomita, Officer Barr, uncle ben (flashbacks) and indy's mother. Other heroes from marvel like daredevil, the punisher, iron fist, and blade. Bonus character man-spider/Peter Parker A great finale of a fight scene if both daredevil vs. The kingpin and spider-man vs. Sinister six in one episode. And finally my version of the sinister six... Rhino Kraven the hunter Shocker Vulture Hobgoblin And scorpion Hired by the kingpin So that is what I wanna see in season 2 of mtv spiderman the new animated series so please tell me what u think of my ideas.

It was a fantastic series, truly a one underrated gem inside the Spider-Man pantheon, it just pushed Spider-Man in a great grounded way, as well as the tone and stories with the characters, specially the villains, and voice actors were awesome as well, Neil Patrick Harris was a pretty good Spider-Man, like y'all talking about Rob Zombie as Lizard, but they got freaking Barney Stinson as Spider-Man, hahaha, just jokes. Even if the finale was kinda lackluster, it was proper in terms of the context of the story, like it went from beginning to end nicely without building plots for potential next season, so it got something solid there, and yeah, the show still looks pretty good for been so many years

Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994) Was probably my favorite of any of the films or TV series we've gotten over the decades, really jope you end up doing a review of that Bull. I think you will enjoy it a fair bit if you haven't watched it.

As a big Spider-Man fan since I was little, I've always wanted to watch this show. Ofcourse I couldn't see it when it first came out since it was on MTV, which was probably the only channel I wasn't allowed to watch. I'm glad that it still holds up. I'll try to track down a copy of the dvd to finally see it.

I disagree about this ending on a cliffhanger. It ends with Peter leaving a recording explaining why he's quitting being spider-man, and throwing that recording and his suit into the river. It's an ending, not a new problem that's been introduced. The fact that it's the only hero show with the hero quitting in frustration at the end makes it pretty special to me.
@Lillean4 жыл бұрын
I mean ya but we loved the show just like beware or Batman we wanted more season it's crazzt
@Thalanox4 жыл бұрын
@@Lillean I understand wanting more of a good show, but I've seen what happens when a fantastic show goes on too long, and the bad decisions of management and the rotating cast of writers ruin the show over time until it's a shambling, horrific corpse of what it once was. It's better for a show to end on a high note with a story that feels complete. If they continued it, they'd need to have a clear plan of what to do in order for it to be good. Otherwise, it likely would have ended up as a disaster.
