As I recall, it wasn't the spider-kiss bit that garnered displeasure from the audience, it was Arin being his standard contrarian, no-tutorial-reading, play-it-his-own-way self that was coming through due to this playthrough and the Tomb Raider playthrough that was also during this timeframe. Ironically I think we could use some of that energy in 2020 when a good number of AAA games feel like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel and could use a good bit of roasting from the Grump. I do recall us expecting Arin and Dan to talk over the "shall we kiss?" line and miss it though, so everyone pogged when the Grumps caught it.

Yeah, I don't get it either, PangoPixel. I just rewatched this series tonight too, and he didn't complain about the game much if at all. After I finished the series, I was like, "Huh.... Maybe he said something on Twitter about this game, because he surely didn't say much here." Like the one thing he said that sounded like a complaint was the easy puzzles Doc Oc has you do on the computer, or whatever, and the tuning on those radio towers, but both of those examples were super-brief. The rest of the playthrough was just fun banter. I think people were just bent outta shape over them glossing over the story, which, if you know this channel, is not a surprise at all. If you wanna know the story, rent it from GameFly, borrow it from a friend, buy the game, or maybe just read the synopsis online. One last thing, and it's in regard to the "Spider-Kiss" joke - 95% of that bit was in episode 2. The other six episodes had VERY little of that joke or even that voice.
