Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul aka your friendly neighbourhood spoiler-man and this video we're breaking down Spider-man Across The Spider-verse. The movie has a lot going on with it and it ends by setting up the events of it's sequel Beyond The Spider-verse. Throughout this video we're gonna be going over what happens in it, some of the easter eggs and also talking about everything we know about what's coming in that big third film.
The film has a major cliffhanger and we end with Miles travelling to Earth 42. This is because the spider that originally bit him was from that dimension and thus it injected him with it's DNA. Therefore when he attempted to return to his home through using the spider society machine it sent him back to the origin world of the spider instead. This is kinda how the end of the film plays out but before we do a deep dive on it I feel like we have to talk about what got us there.

You have an error in the vid: "Miles's dad is due to become a police officer in 48 hours." You meant a CAPTAIN. Similarly, Miles's dad doesn't have the right number of stripes on his uniform for a lieutenant....and Capt. Stacy has a badge on both his jacket AND his shirt in one scene. oops.

My theory is that Miles' dad is going to live. If you paid attention to when Miguel was saying that Miles is an anomaly, then you would know that it probably means some evebts may be different. Because Miles is a different Spider-Man, he can have a different story. I think his mom is the one that's going to die, because no other Spider-Man has lost his/her mom. This would mean that Miles' dad would live, and it would also probably mean that Miles and Gwen can be together without anything bad, (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) happening to either of them.

@@MBCSEVEN That's a good theory...and I think that's exactly what they WANT you to think. But the story is about him becoming a man and controlling his own destiny. So here's my theory: Miles will save his father, will have to then save his mother, but to do so he'll have to sacrifice.....HIMSELF! It'll be a canon event b/c people on Miles' Earth will THINK he's died, but in actuality he'll be transferred to another world , a world like ours where there's an NYPD and Coca-Cola instead of PDNY, etc. (which may be E-42, altho' I believe his doppelganger will be the Spidey there)...and he'll become THAT world's Spider-Man. In the denouement, we'll see him w/one of those bracelets visiting his parents on their world. =]

Pavitr’s dimension starting to unravel isn’t necessarily due to Miles intervention. That is just what Miguel tells us. I personally think it’s an unintended consequence of the spot destroying the building. When the building was falling down, I could have sworn I saw his dark matter emanating from it, and that happens before Miles saves the Detective.

in fact this earth-1610 prowler miles morales is supposed to be the real miles morales spiderman since this miles morales of earth-1610 is the very original spiderman miles.

@@user-ls3nk6cv3t yeah technically the only reason earth 42 Miles became prowler is because E-1610 miles got bit by the spider that came from earth 42, I think it can still work because it’s technically the same miles basically earth-1610 miles was supposed to get bit by an earth-1610 spider, but instead he got bit by a earth-42 spider which caused the events of earth-42 to change but there was still a death in a “captain” so it doesn’t really cause cannon only with earth-1610 miles because his dad isn’t captain yet & is still alive

Anyone agree? This is the "Empire Strikes Back" of the Spider-Verse movies. Think about it, the bad guys sort of won, they left it on a cliffhanger and turns out a big bad guy has som big connection to the protagonist! (I also love that the movie was almost as much Gwens movie as it was Miles's but they didn't forget who main character was. And the spots black design looks sublime)

Pardon me for my lack of understanding about animation and effects, the movie felt blur in multiple scenes.. was that intentional? What is that type of animation/effect called? It felt as though I was watching a 3D movie without glasses. I had to ask a few people around to ensure that my eyesight was not the issue. Would help if you'd explain.

I’m hoping the start of Beyond the spiderverse starts with a quip from Miles saying “don’t watch the mouth, watch the hands” and getting untied from the punch bag like Peter B. Parker did in Into the spiderverse. That would show that Miles has learned from his mentor hasnt just been how to be a hero but even little tips and tricks to get out of tough situations. It would also be a way for Peter to take credit as another joke. I also hope that they take more time with more spidermen such as tom tobey and andrew, show Venom maybe, PS spidermen, Ultimate and Spectacular etc. And of course we have to see Lego spiderman again. Also when Mrs. Chen was talking to the spot, he stole a “Venomints” packet from her which I thought was a fun nod to Venom and had me hoping he’d show up.

That’s why when Miguel mentions the “Captain” dies in every timeline, it hits Miles hard knowing his Dad was fixing to get promoted to Capetian. Hints why Gwen broke down when her Father said “Not Cop anymore, I quit about half way thru your speech” I believe he was Captain in her timeline so him quitting saved his own life because he hadnt sacrificed himself yet or was saved by someone not suppose to be there . Which I believe wont collapse her timeline like Spider-Man pavitr. Miles saves his Captain so that’s reason it started collapsing unlike Gwen’s timeline. Idk my theories usually suck

Right now my theory is that Miles' Existence proves Miguel O'Hara wrong about what makes a universe collapse. Miles himself is not supposed to be spiderman in his own universe, so the idea that he has to stick to some sort of canon is pointless. I think whatever happened in Mumbattan had less to do with who specifically died and and more to do with Spot coming in an rearranging the entire city.

I actually LOVED that the first 30-40 minute was just personal stuff, i didn't even skip a beat, I fucking loved it. It actually gave characters depth instead of only characterising them in a comedy or action scene. there were human conversations and discussions that made the emotion and realness of the film come to life. the importance of 42 as a number is tied into Comic Miles' origin as in the lottery he wins to attend the private school, his number that is drawn is 42. That ping pong ball looking thing that you see in both films, is the raffle ball that it referenced in Into The Spider-Verse's car scene where they discuss the raffle.

I avoided the trailers and most of the marketing materials so when I was watching it without any expectations the first half didn't feel slow to me. It was so interesting to see how Miles and Gwen deal with the pressure of being heroes, hiding it from their family, and the dynamic they have with each other and the other Spiders that time just flew by.

Great breakdown as always. I was almost just as excited for this as I was for the movie itself lol. I don't think it was Miles getting in danger that killed his Peter. I believe there can only be one Spiderman in each universe. We hear multiple Spider people say they are the only ones and Gwen literally 'I'm the only one', multiple times in a row

I think miles getting bit by that alternate spider changed a lot. The miles in dimension 42 was most likely supposed to get bit by that spider that regular miles got bit by, causing D42 Miles to become prowler

Not overlooking the point of them saying, "I'm the only one," but I don't believe there can be only one in each universe. It's simply that spider was in the wrong universe. We have Peter and Miles who are both Spider-Man on Earth-1048 (Insomniac games). Though, Peter was the only one featured in the film. One could make the argument that it takes place before Miles in the games becomes Spider-Man. Still, it doesn't make it impossible to have more than one in the same universe. Maybe Miles-1610, being the anomaly he is, somehow is/becomes the catalyst that makes having more than one Spider-Man in the same universe a possibility. Maybe I'm just overthinking things. 😂😂

It’s just funny to me how people in the movie theater were mad that the movie ended in a cliffhanger literally one of the best and well done cliffhangers I’ve seen. It was a great movie with amazing moments, but I still feel the first one was the better standalone film. The end of this just felt a little abrupt for me, they could've given this one a sort of a soft ending like Infinity War had. Would've been nice if it had ended with Miles seeing Uncle Aaron is alive and getting captured with Prowler Miles being a dark opening for the sequel. And then Gwen getting her new multiverse watch. The spider team-up could've been a quick post credit scene. That being said I think they'll stick the landing with part 2 for sure.

Maybe that'd certainly be better for a lot of people, but the choice they made to give that high tense ending not only gets people itching for the rest of the story, but was executed so perfectly that changing it at all would've greatly impacted the movie in such a risky way that the majority most likely wouldn't like it as much

42 in Marvel is akin to DC's 52. Both love to reference that number in alotta media. 42 is the designation of the Negative Zone Prison in Civil War built by Reed Richards and seen in the MCU, like was on the SHIELD Helicarrier in Winter Soldier and Mark 42 is Stark's prime gold and red remote controlled IM armor in Iron Man 3. I think in the 42 universe, Aaron might be the Vulture, his high fluff coat is an indicator. This film loves to hint at Vulture.

I have a doubt. Miles already lost his Uncle Aaron so he experienced the loss of a loved one. Then why does his father have to die too? I don't get why his father( soon to become captain ) has to die when Miles already lost his Uncle Aaron which is a canon event.

Earth 42 never had a Spider-Man though until he came back. So his canon event hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it’ll be watching himself die like the vampire Spider-Man was speaking on. Which makes me think he is an anomaly as well.

The ending of this movie was great i loved that it shows us what Miles could have been and it was even hinted in into the spiderverse his spidersense was Green and Purple before changing to Red and Blue changing Miles fate but it also shows how while Miguel was right about alot of things doesn't know enough about canon to know why some worlds get erased. Gwen's world didn't get erased with her not only mot being in her own universe but her Dad quitting to be a Police Captain which in my opinion is a major event. Miles not only became spiderman changing his fate but his world stayed stable with the changes if what Miguel said is true his world and 42 would have been tearing itself apart.

This movie leaves me with 2 questions. 1: Why was Miles able to save those two people in the Indian world and nothing happened to it even though it was a canon event. 2: Why did Miguel tell Miles that his dad was going to die? He could have just not told him and he wouldn’t be able to save him because he wouldn’t have known.

1. When Miles saved those two on the bridge, spiderman crew led by that pregnant spider-women(forgot her name lol) came in to stabilize the black hole that appeared and Migel said that most of the time when this happens they were able to save the day but in some occasions they fail to do that just like Migel failed to save the universe where he came after that version of him died and so everyone died there. So to answer your question all those deaths that should happen can be prevented(uncle ben, captain sing etc.) and every spider man knows that but they refuse to do it because it would mean destruction of whole universe, and Miles didnt know that thats why he jumped in to save those two

What I didn’t quite get was when Miles is escaping and Spiderbyte is on the computers and they lock eyes and then decides to stall for him, at first I like damn what a hero she was for that but when the twist happens that he didn’t go back to his own world it cuts back to her looking at him in the teleporter, so did she actually help him or not? Did she know he would end up in the wrong universe and wouldn’t be able to stop the canon in his own universe or was it too late when she realised he was going to the wrong place? She is on Gwens strike team at the end but is she going to double cross them to Miguel? I hope not I prefer to think she did help Miles but I am genuinely unsure on what happened

I think its safe to assume spider byte didnt know. And here's why. It wasnt that spide byte set the destination to earth 42 but the DNA scanner did. The DNA scanner is revealed to scan the spider DNA inside a spiderman and as it was revealed in the film the spider that bit miles was from earth 42 not his own. Since miles is an anomaly it was most likely not a widely known thing to byte and the lower ranked spiders hence why we see Miguel follow miles in 42 but qwen seems to go back to 1610 cause he knows about miles anomaly in depth and the go home machine a lot.

The fact that she was on Gwen’s team in the end makes me think that she decided to help Miles after their prolonged eye contact. I don’t think she had any control over where he ended up though, so whether she knew it wasn’t his home or not, I think she made a calculated decision that his odds were better the further he was from Miguel.

9.5 is excellent rating, the way you webbed all the comics you can summarize comparisons was great. I loved the miles arc and the Donald Glover Easter egg. Good research Great way to dive deeper into the multi verse analysis. Love the web of Earth 42 So much I can’t wait to watch it again tomorrow. Keep this channel good piece on flash comparison temptation. I agree this is great season of true comic book fans.

As far as the animation, this is absolutely an outstanding achievement. I was steadily being blown away by what I was seeing on the big screen. Also, the voice acting was top notch. My only criticism would be that they didn't make it clear this is the first part of two because most of my theater let out a collective "WHAT THE FUCCKKK?!?!" when the end credits popped up. The studio could have done a better job preparing people for a heavy cliffhanger ending. I was figuring it would end on a cliffhanger and even I got blue balls from that ending. Anyway, other than that, incredible spiderman flick, 8.5/10 and I'm not usually big into animated movies

It was initially advertised with the "Part One" in the title, which was then removed shortly after. As someone already mentioned, the studio did release a statement that it is the first of a two part film. Not placing blame on anyone, as I know some folks prefer not to know too much going into a film.

@@henxiety they did enough for fans who've been hyped about this movie for years but a lot of casual movie goer's, the ending is unexpected. I witnessed it at the screening I was at. Everyone was fully invested throughout and when that "To be continued" popped up a lot of people were not happy. I'm just saying, they could have somehow made it more clear because why risk having whatever portion of the audience really enjoy the entire movie but then the last feeling they're left with is disappointment.

My guess is Miles actually killed his father.....they got into a fight, and he either out right kills him.....or, uses the gauntlet to cover his face and the rebound, deflects and kills the dad..... I think that in the next movie, Miles will try to get Miles to be good....and he stops the canon event in his own universe....but, then spends the last hour of the movie trying to stop all the universes from being destroyed
