Due to Spike's upbringing, he thinks less like a dragon and more like a pony. Where he got the idea of dragon's honour to serve AJ in "Spike at Your Service", I have no idea. I think the writers kind of sent the wrong message in "Owl's Well that Ends Well". Not once did Spike apologise for lying to Twilight or to Owlowiscious for trying to frame him. He could have offered to replace the burned book too. Instead Twilight thinks she wasn't sensitive enough towards him, which is kind of giving him a slap on the wrist for wrongdoing. In "Dragon Quest" it was bad luck that Spike met Garble's gang and not some other dragons first. I do think that Spike sports many of the traits G1 Spike had combined with the pride and mischief of G3 Spike. If you ask me, Spike makes a better fit for the Element of Loyalty than Rainbow Dash ever did. I have to admit that Spike does make miserable mistakes sometimes such as causing Ember and King Thorax to almost fight each other because he believed they would fight if they first met. I think his most impressive moment is when he worked with Luna and took the foil crown in "Twilight's Seven". Luna is definitely a pony that Spike can relate to. It does call for a "What if?" story where Luna is Twilight's mentor instead of Celestia.

Spike deserved better treatment in some areas. I didn't like how he was almost always left out of the MANE 6's gatherings and treated like a servant from Twilight sometimes.

Honestly the simplest thing the writers could have done to avoid this is having Spike stay back in Canterlot with Princess Celestia from the beginning of the MLP FIM show so that he wouldn't be concerned with whatever Twilight Sparkle and her friends are doing

Spike is an analog of a "little brother" and that dynamic is realistic of siblings. When an older sibling has friends over for a playdate, the little brother is typically ignored and feels left out because the friends came over to hang out with his older sister, not him. Twilight's friends are *Twilight's* friends, they have no obligation to be Spike's friends. The trajedy of Spike is that he doesn't have his own separate friend group of boy dragons.

Spike is my favorite character and was actually the reason that I got into mlp. I only started watching because my friend said he watched it and I heard a bunch of people at school talking about it and I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. At first it just seemed like another Barbie type show (appealing more to girls than guys) but because Spike was there a fun male character(I used to not be able to enjoy movies and shows, unless they had a male character as a main or secondary lead) so I decided to give a real chance and ended up, loving it. Also I see Spike as kind of the spirit of Harmony in a sense. While each pony represents an element on its own I like to think spike represents all the elements combined together. He’s loyal to a fault he’s pretty dang honest he’s really kind when he wants to be he is very generous at times he’s always able to make light of a bad situation And he’s also magical in a sense He has magic fire for one and his mock D&D character is a wizard could just be a coincidence but would be cool if it was intentional. Ok. Gonna add my two cents here. Everything in this video is true about Spike. But there's one thing that I believe was missing. And that is.... that Spike is the 7th Element of Harmony. You might be wondering how or why I say this. Well, for starters, I've read a lot of fanfics on FIMFiction. One short story got my attention years ago. I can't remember the name of it. But it was a simple conversation between Applejack and Twilight where AJ hinted that Spike was an Element, and proved it by asking Twilight about her Cutie Mark. If you look closely at Twilight's mark, you'll see five small stars surrounding a larger purple star.....**which is on top of a large white star in the background**. Yes. That white background star represents Spike. Also remember that on that fateful day in which the 'Mane Six' got their marks (during Rainbow's first rainboom), Spike was born. This fact would\should connect his destiny along with the others. The hard question is... what is the name of Spike's Element? 'Support' would fit but really isn't an element per se. I was thinking maybe...'Perseverance'. Spike has been through a LOT. Mostly being treated like a "baby" even if he was only a couple of years younger mentally than Twilight, herself. Thanks to Twi, Spike could almost take a college exam at the beginning of season one due to him just being around her as an assistant. This also hurt Spike as, if everyone remembers, Twi was a complete shut-in and very anti-social. Thankfully, Spike had the will to talk to others; he just didn't know HOW to talk to others outside of maybe Moondancer. So Spike being the Element of Perseverance by learning from his (and other's) mistakes, being a peacemaker to his close friends, taking being called "baby" all the time on the chin but doesn't keep him down for long, just works for me in my opinion. 😊

Spike and Twilight are siblings. Full stop. Their dynamic and the way they talk to each other shows this clearly. Spike doesn't talk to Twilight like a mother. Twilight doesn't talk to him like a son. The episode Winter Wrap Up is the clearest display of their dynamic. The whole time Spike is nagging twilight to use her magic while also mocking her attempts to no use magic. He gives a brutally savage take on her attempt at making a bird's nest, he laughs at her for miserably failing at ice skating and throws her under the bus after the snow plow incident. He also comforts her when she gets depressed and tries encouraging her to use magic. That's not how a parent and child interact. But the most clear evidence of this is at the beginning of the episode when Twilight wakes him up. He clearly tells her "You're not mommy."

It didn't help that the Ponies were often Racist towards those who were not Earth-Ponies, Pegasi, Unicorns or Alicorns, like how Zecora was treated in her debut(despite Zebras being fellow Equines) or the fact that a doctor suggesting Twilight take Spike to a Vet of all professionals, or how they kept calling Iron Will the Minotaur a Monster, or Rainbow Dash thinking that Dragons & Tortoises were the same thing in the episode where Tank had to hibernate, and don't get me started on Season 8! Spike did have to deal with a lot growing up.
