I think Matt has this impulse to apologize because he gets criticized a lot whenever he talks. I mean Erin (and sometimes Carly 🤔) starts giggling and rolling her eyes almost every time he opens his mouth. It gives a little bit of bullying vibes, but Matt seems like he takes it in stride and can dish it out, as well. This happens on Unfiltered, too, and even though he seems like he can take it, I think it stresses him out a little and manifests itself in him being conversationally insecure. It really sucks because, no hate to his cohosts on either podcast, but sometimes it’s an echo chamber, and Matt is the only one who brings any nuance to the discussion.
@jennalabadini6800

I agree to disagree. Matt does not get “bullied” on unfiltered. However I can agree that on this podcast, he does seem like he doesn’t want to say the wrong thing. But on unfiltered, I feel like he can actually be unfiltered.

As for the Jewish ancestry thing: because there is only recent history of conversion and intermarriage (only really became a practice with the emergence of reform Judaism in the 19th Century) in the vast majority of Jewish communities, their genetic makeup is different from the surrounding populations. For example, Polish Jews generally only married and reproduced with other Polish Jews for centuries, therefore their genealogy is different from those of the wider Polish community. There are also medical conditions that are associated with specific Jewish communities that aren't common in the wider community such as Tay-Sachs
@amesy123
@amesy123 Жыл бұрын
Also people aren’t considering the fact that if you convert to Judaism, you maintain the same lineage lol. Your blood doesn’t change. That’s why there’s a distinction between being ethnically Jewish vs being both ethnically Jewish and practicing Judaism.

Speaking as someone who is ethnically Ashkenazi Jewish, but it was passed down on my grandfather’s side so they didn’t continue to practice the religion and therefore I would never call myself “Jewish.” However, there are certain medical things you can be more susceptible to like you said, like I’m at a greater risk for breast cancer bc of my ashkenazi Jewish lineage

So I really don't know if you guys will see this -- but Matt talking about the narcissist thing regarding funerals/wakes/death is BEYOND true. Long story short, my best friend passed last week on the morning of Easter Sunday. She was a friend to so many people and since we're all in our early 20s, most of her friends have branched out and moved out of state to go to school or establish their own lives. I've known her since I was 6 because she lived two or so houses from me up the street. With both of us also having had dropped out of school around the same time, we were basically the only ones left in this town; planning how we would escape together almost every time we hangout. A small group of her friends that she had kinda grown away from seemingly popped out of the woodworks as soon as the news spread, with one of them traveling over 5,000 miles to be here... nice right? Nope. This friend (we'll call her Brenda) had actually been totally cut off from (we'll call her Sugar) Sugar 7 months ago because they had gotten into a fight where, for the first time ever, Brenda punched Sugar in the face. This was followed by a lengthy text from Sugar to Brenda essentially saying that she never wanted to see or hear from her again. Cut to Tuesday, not just 2 full days after finding out, Brenda and her small group of friends show up at the house up the street -- unannounced, didn't tell or ask Sugars parents before. Nothing. To make matters worse, Sugar had a bedroom above their detached garage, which had become a meeting spot for her closest friends to hangout in. They went in before I even got there, with them seemingly waiting to tell me that they had arrived so they could take a SELFIE in her bedroom, which was then posted to Instagram with her f--king wake details written out. Wtf. Had I not asked if they had gone up there, I probably would have found out from the selfie. So after I had asked, we went back up, something I wasn't entirely ready to do, but felt like I had to since Brenda and her friends got to be the first ones to go in - after not being in her life for 7 months! To make matters worse they neglected to tell some of her closest friends (and I naively assumed they had been in contact with them, partially on me here too), who were basically family to her due to familial issues Sugar had dealt with and are getting some of her remains, so we were there for like 3-4 hours with absolutely nobody knowing; I feel horrible about this especially. The night then ended with Brenda and her friend leaving with arms full of her stuff. Squishmallows, clothes, whatever... literally thrift shopping through her room the entire time. Tons more details and stuff happened, but essentially everyone who was still close to Sugar at the end is pissed and beyond offended because Brenda (and another friend, but she's not even worth the energy) totally took over and victimized herself the entire time, making multiple scenes, and even throwing a High School style house party - after Sugar just passed in a head on collision with a drunk driver. She seemingly lost sight of the very reason she was here, Sugar's death, and made it entirely about her. She has since gone back to where she came from (that sounds so bad), and now I'm left to pick up the pieces and mess they left up in her room.
@yeaokaysure
@yeaokaysure Жыл бұрын
This is horrible. Did sugar’s family approve of them taking her things?! That’s insane. Also don’t be hard on yourself. Grief is hard enough as it is and the could have, should have, would haves won’t help. Just be present and honor your friend. I’m sorry for your loss.
@JonJonMiles
@JonJonMiles Жыл бұрын
@@yeaokaysure When the group showed up unannounced, only Sugars step-mom was there… and she allowed them to go up there. she has been married to her father for only a year or so, meaning she didn’t know the dynamics of the friendships, she only knew faces. Not only that, with it being only two or so days after, she probably wasn’t in the headspace to say no. After going back a couple days ago to clean up, I spoke to Sugars step mom and father - both of which haven’t been able to bring themselves to go back up to the room. Through speaking to her father, he said VERBATIM “what am I gonna do, say no?” It’s so f-ked up. Brenda and her friends totally rushed through this and swiped their sympathy cards at every turn… and now they’re gone, ran right back to their lives as soon as the crowd scattered.

Would you be open to sharing your thoughts on it and if you were taught them or looked things up yourself? It makes me wonder so much when you get passionate about things like storming the capitol and how vocal you are about the fucked up systems/some laws in the US but never give the same energy towards the other part of your national identity (if I could call it that). would be happy to know more please (from all of you guys, actually)

I mean Judaism is different than other religions because it is not just about the religion but it’s a mix of culture, ethnicity etc. therefore you can be Jewish in your ethnicity but then you convert to a different religion, but you can also be let’s say Italian and grow up catholic and then decide to convert to Judaism. But independently from that you may have Jewish genes or not. Again, it is not just about the religion so Mike’s reasoning isn’t totally correct, you can 100% trace back the ethnicity of Judaism. Or at least just as well as you can the other ethnicities.

Ok I mentioned this in a reply earlier but I’m surprised nobody else is saying anything about the Jewish thing so I’m gonna comment again lmao. There’s a distinction between being ethnically Jewish and practicing Judaism. You can convert to Judaism but your lineage doesn’t change lol. So the people who don’t have the bloodline wouldn’t have it come up in their results. I’m speaking as someone ethnically ashkenazi Jewish but it was passed down on my grandfathers side so they didn’t continue practicing, so I would never call myself “Jewish.” But just like any other bloodline you could be more susceptible to medical things (I’m more susceptible for breast cancer bc of my ashkenazi lineage).
