I'm from Poland, that was the movie of my childhood and I still love it. ALSO we DO breed bunnies for food. There's just a stigma around eating rabbits because they're "pet animals". Also they're quite hard to cook, so many people just don't know how to prepare them. My mother makes the bets rabbit roast. Also, rabbit meat is INCREDIBLY healthy, since you can't really artificially force them to grow faster and give them some weird meds to inflate their muscle. I's the best first meat for babies!

This movie is just another testament to Ralph Fieness' acting chops. He's so goofy and pompous in this role, you'd almost never think he could be an actual threat. But then compare him playing Victor to his performance in Prince of Egypt, Harry Potter, or even Schindler's List. It's almost like listening to different people.

My mum's childhood friend had a rabbit as a kid. One day while she was at school her parents gave the rabbit away without asking her first. She was very torn up about it for a very long time, but eventually forgave her parents. Only a decade or so later did she find out, through her parents telling it as a funny "when she was a child" anecdote at a party, that they had not given her rabbit away, but actually killed and cooked it and all three of them had had it for dinner that evening, them telling her it was chicken.

Idk how true this story is but I swear I remember it from when I was a kid. There's an island in the south of the UK that had a rabbit problem and there's like a local superstition about rabbits or something where they think that the rabbits burrowing on the island so much will cause the island to collapse. There's a little independent theatre on the island and they refused to show this movie because of the bunny superstition.
