18:15 The reason Norman and Agatha have the same ears and big eyebrows is because they’re related, albeit distantly related. Agatha’s surname is Prenderghast, which is the surname of Norman’s uncle (actually great-uncle as Norman’s mom said he’s her uncle) who is called Mr Prenderghast. All three of them have the same big eyebrows and also the same eyes.

Can we have ONE zombie movie where the protagonist is like “oh, right, zombies, don’t let them bite you and you can kill them by destroying the brain, i got this” (Personally tho, I think kneecapping zombies is a better strategy because smashing their heads in or cutting their heads off means you could get blood in your eyes or mouth. Also, here’s some fun facts!: The scene where mr.p shows up in the bathroom took an entire year to animate AND ONLY ONE ANIMATOR WAS WORKING ON THAT. Also, the zombies rising also took an entire year to animate and that was animated by Travis Knight, the CEO of the studio. If you look hard enough, Mr. P’s underpants have the wording “Mr. Fell” referencing one of the directors Sam Fell, Also Mitch has underpants that read “Mr. Butler” referencing Chris Butler the writer and Director of ParaNorman!

Theory is the witch is Norman's ancestor since they both talked to the dead and they looked similar. I do like the message of the movie. That fear of the unknown is what was bad. That people acting on fear, doing terrible things thinking they were right at the time, and the cycle of violence it can cause. It's a good reminder some people need, and props for using realistic examples referencing the witch trials which had very real and extreme consequences for innocent victims and the modern version of it of outcasting someone and mob tendancies.

Paranorman was a weird movie , it looks like it wont be a good movie but when you sit down and actually watch it, its pretty good. Underrated for sure.

Top tier LAIKA film! LAIKA has such a fantastic filmography and aside from Coraline I don’t feel they get enough love. Agatha on her own is some top tier stop motion/CGI

I actually can see ghosts like Norman but I can’t communicate with them and it’s been happening since I was young. I believe that was the reason I was so invested in this movie and I loved it so much

Only just now getting around to seeing your guys' reaction, as I was seeing a screening of the film and seeing the Laika exhibition in London the other day. Even though I know the film very well, I didn't want to be thinking of what you guys were saying ;) After my recent rewatch, I think it gets closer to dethroning Coraline for my favourite Laika film. It's got ghosts, zombies and a witch. There's a little more exploration of Norman and how everyone views him. There's some really clever lines from Norman's grandmother. Like at the beginning she says: "I’m sure if they just bothered to sit down and talk it through it’d be a different story." Which is of course what Norman does with Agatha in the finale. And the line: "There’s nothing wrong with being scared, Norman. So long as you don’t let it change who you are." Which again, ties back to Agatha. After what she was put to death, she came back and had changed and become more evil out of fear and revenge.

There’s a theory somewhere out there that The Other Mother from Coraline was actually Aggie’s mom, which is why she chose to steal the souls of children because she lost her own.
