I'm so sad none of them seemed to know about the rampant selfcest that went on through the Lorax fandom. Tumblr was full of teenage girls shipping Onceler with himself. There wasn't enough shipping material in the movie, so they just made the Onceler before and after the green suit separate characters and shipped the living shit out of them. There is a cut song from The Lorax called _"Biggering"_ which the song actually stayed faithful to the original book's message. It's like _"How Bad Can It Be?"_ but more like a dramatic rock opera than an upbeat pop music. The story of the Lorax is maybe about raising the environmental awareness, but it's also a cautionary tale of corporate greed.

the problem was that the original cartoon made both sides arguments the need to be sustainable and not over exploiting nature and resources which are limited vs the need of jobs and means to support workers and their families but the cartoon makes the point that there needs to be a balance but the Oncler was not interested in doing so while it tres to imply a compromise it makes note that the unclear is still in the wrong the issue is fr the movie they decided that they didn’t want the Oncler to be the bad guy so, they make his family be the corrupting” influence that coerces him into being bad this is the problem with a lot of the film adaptations, they do not want to alienate the audience or make the characters look bad so they introduce the “liar revealed” trope or there being some other force that forces the characters to do bad so we don’t have any thoughts on duality of man and or how a lot of good people will make mistakes based on furnace, greed, desire etc.

Its almost poetic that studio meddling prevented this movie from being *much* darker and taking itself more seriously like the original In fact, the Onceler's original song for this movie, that was cut down in the actual release, was *much* darker and more thought provoking as it suggested that his main flaw , and the reason why he went as far as he did, wasn't his *greed* but rather the grandad of all human flaws: *pride* Which honestly fits much more into what they were going for with the Onceler in this movie. His family treated him like garbage, so he developed an inferiority complex. So once he realised that he had an idea that could actually make him rich and famous, he took it to make sure *everyone* respected him. But he went too far and lost everything anyway. Obviously, this is a far cry from the original Onceler who wasn't intended to be sympathised with, have a backstory or even a face. The Onceler was simply the personification of human selfishness and the idea was that *anyone* could be the Onceler. But, still, this could have been an interesting take had the people making the movie not had their creative process meddled with.
@RetroTaylor94 Жыл бұрын
I never understood why the Onceler never thought to replant trees while his business was in operation. The US logging industry plants almost 2 billion trees annually, while harvesting only 950 million. So we have a net GAIN for trees every year.
@softnoobgirl739 ай бұрын
Ya because otherwise there wouldn't be trees to cut elementary level economics
@malpheus42997 ай бұрын
You don't really have a "net gain" since the major issue is the harvesting of trees that are thousands of years old, not to mention some species of trees being exceptionally rare and taking far longer to mature because of the particular wood they are harvested for.

As bad as it is they still don't contribute to pollution as much as China and India. If all the celebrities and western world started living like the dawn of civilization (in huts made of leaves in clothes made of leaves with food made of bugs and leaves) and completely erased their carbon footprint, it wouldn't even make a dent in worldwide pollution. If you want to tell people to give up their comforts, start with yourself (generally speaking) and stop telling people to eat the bugs.

I'm in genuine disbelief adam doesn't know how INSANE the memes and the onceler obsessive fandom were for this movie were. I've literally never even seen this movie and I know everything about it somehow through osmosis. You couldn't escape it, it was like Brony level honestly. It's probably one of the most infamous well known fanbases of all time on the internet.

Was this some sort of little kid thing? Like, I'm a zoomer, yet I don't remember seeing any Lorax memes (or at least more than usual).

No, really, at my old bad small private school, me and a few friends would hide from bullies and would watch the Lorax while eating popcorn on our tiny lunch break for two weeks. Best two weeks ever. We love watching bad movies together, sometimes it was just two of us... snuggling.. and then we moved on to Transformers Rescue Bots. It was a rough school year.

Honestly, I would love them to react to original short adaptation, it is so much better.

And it had a rather deep message that the film had trouble telling us

@@Mr.Feather130 The Biggering is single best song made for this movie and it was cut. Honestly, I wouldn't even blame creators of the movie, considering they did want something more with book.

In 5th grade whenever we'd have inside recess or any free time (say after standardized testing) we would watch this movie over and over again. I saw it probably 20 times in one school year

honestly, no matter what, the lorax as a place in my heart from the memes and funny memories of my class watching it 12 times in a year and always loving it and singing it every time. (in summary a girl had a loud ass voice and when picking movies, she'd scream the lorax and we'd watch it.)
