This was my all time favorite Christmas song up until a few years ago. It got bumped to #2 when Sabaton made "Christmas Truce". Yeah, definitely a Sabbath feel to it. Thanks Melvin.

I'm ashamed it has taken me this long to hear it, especially as This Is Spinal Tap is one of my favourite films! But loved it. Cheers Chris 😀

I haven't heard Christmas Truce, but I shall remedy that. Thanks for the suggestion!

*_THANK YOU_* I didn't even know they'd made a Christmas song. That was a *Hoot!* Agree, they sound better than many "serious bands". When you said "Sweet Home Alabama" I was shouting at the screen! I needed a mince pie 😋 and glass of Port 🍷 to calm down. Panic over, 😌you got it. 👍👍I didn't get all your references, though they all sounded reasonable _after_ you said them. Worse, I couldn't remember the carol chimed out at the start and end (frustrating. It's a classic, sung very quickly, I think by a boys choir. Now it's running round my head but I can't get the lyrics to figure out what it is. I'll be humming this for hours). I'm a traditionalist; Greg Lake "I believe in Father Christmas", Slade "Merry Xmas Everybody", and, played at many Christmas parties, Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". Jacob Collier's cover of Robert Wells and Mel Tormé's song _The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)_ ① (made famous by Nat King Cole), is gorgeous. However, it is mostly A Capella, so not a good 'fit'. Happy, Peaceful New Year to You, Mystery Girl, Your Families, and Friends. 🎉 ☮ ① kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWqmpqaDgM2ip80 5m:49s

@@melvinthinks Thank you for replying. I didn't forget Roy Wood's Wizzard. Roy is an under appreciated British musical genius. I was just limiting myself to my favourite 3. I was almost tempted to put Alan Hull's beautiful "Winter Song" first. I sang the chorus of "Winter Song" back at Alan Hull several times at Newcastle City Hall. 😭However Greg Lake's "I believe in Father Christmas" is much more cheerful, and Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody", is essential for parties, and shops. Then "Christmas Song", Wizzard "I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day", then probably Jona Lewie's "Stop the cavalry", if I kept going. Happy, Peaceful New Year. 🎉 ☮

I dunno if I should be admitting this, because my rock and metal cred will go down the pan, but I really like the Kelly Clarkson song "Underneath The Tree". I kept hearing it on adverts of late and wondered who it was. It has that old-school 50/60s vibe to it, like The Ronettes or Darlene Love. I think it's one of the better modern Xmas songs. A lot of them suck balls.

@@melvinthinks Thanks for mentioning "Underneath The Tree". I didn't recognise it, listened, and it _is_ good. She really got the Phil Spectre "Wall of Sound" vibe. 👏 I don't watch much TV, and when I do, I usually mute the sound during the ads. My little rebellion against "The Man". You're way better informed than me. I can't even think of a modern (since 2006?) Christmas song off the top of my head which isn't a cover of a 20th century song, proving your point. I do like Aurora's "Half a World Away" on the John Lewis "Man on the Moon", but that's only Christmassy because of the ad. The Irn-Bru "Snowman" song is pretty good, "... I'm falling through the air ...". 😆 Best Wishes to You and Mystery Girl. 🎉 ☮

The Irn Bru ad is brilliant! 😆 Trust me, I'm definitely not "Well informed". The last Christmas song I genuinely liked upon initial release was The Darkness which was 2003. And I don't blame you for muting adverts. Mystery Girl does the same a lot of the time! Screams at mr to turn the volume down or off so it doesn't rot out brains 😆

I agree. Might be a spoof, but there's a serious nod to Dio era Sabbath there. Best thing about Spinal Tap is they actually did the music themselves, when they could have just faked it. And second best is they're just unhinged. Great reaction 👍

Cheers Fred! Definitely a really cool Christmas song and am surprised not many people, including myself, have heard it.

I submit that Spinal Tap are trying to create a generic metal sound by using elements of all (classic) metal as a vehicle for their parody. So if you love the actual song and its production then you are indirectly admitting that all metal sounds similar and somewhat generic... 😀

Alternatively, it could just mean I really like classic rock and metal 😬🤟🤟🤟
