Single inline hooks work great. I hate the damage trebles do to fish. If you are going to release them the harder you pull the heart of a pool back, the more you will drop so I play them gently and if you fish the beaches you will land a lot more fish than off the rocks

Thanks for the info Lionel, 100% agree with you about the damage trebles do to fish if you are catch and releasing. I was fishing with heavier gear than I really needed for such small tailor so was dragging them in pretty quick, so I have no doubt you are right about losing less if you play them gently. Cheers mate.

Hey mate where this? Ive got some good ones around the woolgoolga region in the past couple weeks. I always bring a net with me because they come off so easily helps to stop them slipping back in the drink, bigger trebles i find get hit but dont hook the smaller guys and a big fella will come along and smash it. Happy fishin

Yes I guess going larger on hook size will help weed out the smaller ones with only the larger tailor hooking up. Would rather not say the location though, Im sure you understand. Cheers mate.

From my limited experience, the single inline circle hooks. I use B.K.K hooks on my Arma Metalik metals. They perform much better. I remember a session down on a South Coast beach when using trebbles where I lost fish after fish. Haven’t found it as frustrating with the singles. Hope this helps!😊

Thanks Justin, will check out the B.KK hooks and the Arma Metalik's. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Some nice action with the tailor👌 Single Hooks work much better on the hookup. Dont lower your fishing rod when fish is close to the rocks, you wana keep the tip up as high as possible so the fish is out the wash n away from the rocks, preventing it from coming off.. when we fish for tailor we hit and reel out fast. Hope it helps... Tight lines gents 👍

Hey mate, I know that spot well, def gotta keep an eye on swell. I always use single inline hooks for quick and easy release, but personally I don’t believe they improve the hook up rate. Last time I went I lost 8/8 and most were hooked till 3/4 the way in. After watching your vid I don’t feel so bad and am beginning to think either way doesn’t matter lol. Cheers 😊

Yeah good point, the quick and easy release is a plus for using singles, do a lot less damage to the fish also. Interesting to hear you still dropped heaps using singles. Thanks for your feedback Anthony.

Cheers mate, I haven't chased Spanish from a yak in a few years now but have been getting the itch so could be on the cards in March. Congrats on buying a stealth, best ocean going yak you can get.👍

assist hooks would also be a good option, they look like the hooks as used on sabikis, but larger.
@LoveYakken8 ай бұрын
Hey Rick, funny you mention that, I had some assist hooks in my tackle box yesterday, not sure what brand but were rated at 5kg. First strike they bit through the short coated line just above the assist hook lol. Obviously need better teeth resistant ones. Thanks for your help mate👍
@rick50788 ай бұрын
@@LoveYakkenif you have some thin gauge metal wire, you could wrap the shank and the line above the hook to make it more bite resistant.
@rick50788 ай бұрын
@@LoveYakkenyou can also get assist hooks with steel wire, google for "Spinpoler 2 pairs"
