Thanks for the kind words! I played drums for this release when I was still a member of the band. I left the following year to pursue a career in being a Dad, as Spiritbox started to gain huge momentum and touring opportunites that just didn't fit with where I was at in life. These days (and for a long time previous), I do session drumming for Jordan Chase's studio Oodelally, and actually played on the Katerina songs you've reacted to, among others. Take care!

Bro thank you for checking out my video!!! You’ve listed some of my favourite names when it comes to new music and production haha what a small world. That means you’ve worked on the drums for Freeze The Fall as well I believe!!! Great to see your name on here my friend, and if I can do anything for you as well please let me know 🙏

My favorite Spiritbox is proggy Spiritbox.

Hahaha are they another genre breaker?!
@GeekFurious9 ай бұрын
@@Beldvlmnt They are like Sleep Token or Ghost. They play in whatever genre they want. More modern Spiritbox is a touch more "commercial" but in more of a mature, we've figured out how to be proggy without sounding proggy way. Like the song Jaded that got nominated for a Grammy, that's sneakily proggy.

Since you started out with the older stuff, I'd recommend Trust Fall and Electric Cross.

The guitar is a custom Aristedes with Piezo installed for the "acoustic" sound
@cyn413ph9 ай бұрын
Mike is using Aristides guitars here, which is in part what allows the guitar to have more of an acoustic sound. If you havent heard about Aristides, it's actually really interesting and worth looking into. Years of research by dutch scientists trying to find a material that allows a "perfect" acoustic sound resulted in them engineering a material called Arium, which these guitars are made from. There's way more to it than that obviously, but it's definitely interesting to dive into.

Great reaction! The drummer here is Ryan Loerke, if that helps. He was replaced when he left for family reasons by their current drummer, Zev Rose.

Thanks for the shout out! I left in 2020 to make sure I was around to be the best Dad and Husband I could (I had a 9 month old at the time when I left). Now I get to focus on session work locally and I couldn't be happier with all the success Spiritbox has had!

@@ryanloerke981 Oh wow, that's so kind of you to reply! Thank you for the extra info - I really enjoyed your work with Spiritbox and I wish you and your family all the best. It's great to hear that you are able to continue your music career locally too.

Spiritbox until recently was married couple Mike & Courtney and whoever they could get to play with them but over the past year they formalized the band with Zev on drums and Josh on bass. This is an early song in their discography when they were more progressive metal. Their overall genre is metalcore but they are unpredictable and switch in and out of genres.

Mike Stringer (on guitar) writes all the instrumental music. He’s married to Courtney LaPlante, the vocalist. She writes the lyrics and her vocal melodies. Mike is very self-effacing, and after this earlier period of Spiritbox’s output, I read that he decided to simplify his musical style for something more directly accessible for listeners, as he feared he was showcasing what he could do, to the extent that it was distracting attention from the performance of other band members. Their original bass player here, Bill Crook, left on friendly terms in early 2022, and was replaced by current bassist Josh Gilbert, previously of As I Lay Dying.

Great stuff! It is a trilogy, like you thought. Between part 1 and part 2 there was a short interlude. This is one of their deeper cuts, the first three songs they released. The sounds at the beginning and between the songs are coming from a Spirit Box, funnily enough. As you continue listening to Spiritbox, you'll find out that a lot of their other songs outside of the stuff on the singles collection is less proggy but more refined. Like they were experimenting at the beginning and then found out what kind of sound they wanted to go for. Some songs have only clean vocals, some have only harsh vocals, and some have a mix. It's fun! I recommend Holy Roller, Rule of Nines, Blessed Be, Circle With Me, or Jaded next. You can't go wrong with any of those.

This trilogy and The Beauty of Suffering are the best Spiritbox songs. I love all their songs though, except Yellowjacket, for some reason I just don’t enjoy it.
