Oh, this one is not about ghosts like the one with Dr. Finkle. Still, very interesting. Never heard about the fact, that the development of hard alcohol production has to do with the making of perfume. I feel like there is something important missing here. A disclaimer of some sorts. Don't drink too much of this stuff and don't make a habit out of it. It is not good for you!

Makes one wonder if someone did invent fortified wine earlier having the technology to do so for millenniums. Something like that isn't super easy to prove since the residue in an amphora or pot would basically look like ordinary wine. Those strange holes in Israel doesn't really seems like stills to me. I guess you could fill them with beer or wine and drop in heated rocks to distill without a fire under them so it isn't entirely impossible but it seems like a far too complicated way of doing things. Yeah, I could make it work, hang up some of Swamp Bob's relatives above them to collect the vapor after you drop heated stones in them and you could get some booze but I think to make that assumption you would require some really good analyzed data pointing towards that. It might also be worth studying early Chinese alchemists, the first Emperor did have a bunch of them and it is far from impossible they figured it out before the 8th century, they were rather experimental after all. But that also require some really good evidence. One would think at least someone tried it earlier...

What is the story behind your wall hanging? I seem to spy a beast man lifting a chariot into a boat. Is that a griffon/human hybrid?

Sorry to be slow in getting back to you but this is what we found out: They are plaster casts (which means they are replicas) of Neo-Assyrian reliefs by the King Ashurnasirpal II in the British Museum from the excavations of Nimrud. They are fantastic, aren't they! There are reliefs in the British Museum as well as the Metropolitan Museum and the Walters Museum. Some of the reliefs were left in situ in Iraq and have faced a tragic fate with ISIS bulldozing Nimrud, smashing two lamassu statues at the entrance gate. To learn more - here's a Wikipedia link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashurnasirpal_II
