Reminds me of The Forever War, which I read recently. (For those who don't know, man is sent to fight an interstellar war against an alien species, and every time he's sent out, he suffers time dilation, which not only affects the technology and strategy employed on the battlefield on both sides, but also the society back home evolves over time as well.)

@@barkon34 *Spoiler warning for the end of the book*. Actually, you (and the protagonist) believes that will be the case after him and his long-term-girlfriend are split and sent on different missions, but he actually finds out at the end of the war, she's managed to get on a ship designed to stay at relitavistic velocities as much as possible, to allow couples exactly like them to re-unite after the war, and they can settle on a planet set up as like a 'nature reserve' by the current 'humanity', in case they discover their current path of evolution was a mistake, they have 'prior versions' of humanity to fall back on. They've both spent basically the entire book being consistently lied to and screwed over and manipulated by the authorities above them. That they *finally* get something good is both unexpected, and indicative of just how different the 'new humanity' is.

I think the comment about "literally no one wants to actually explore open space," is about the idea that the experience in Elite Dangerous isn't what we would expect when we explore "open space." That experience is more analogous to the highlights of what might amount to island hopping in a terrestrial ocean. You see the constellations. You survive harsh environments. Occasionally you land on something interesting. Exploring open space would analogously be, like, playing for 4 hours and finding absolutely nothing.

if there's multiple endings, please for the love of god be a one off. I'm tired of sequel bait and devs picking canon endings for sequels.

So over hyped already. This is a terrible path to start on in todays gaming landscape. Under promise and over deliver is the key.
