I still have my mom's old spirograph kit! It looks identical to the one that you show in the video except the tray is red instead of blue! I still use it today!

Hi - Thinking back, I think I was running stuff thru an on-line site which had a script for the generation of the designs. Changed variables each time. I used a capture app to record results and edited that together - quality is not that good. Do a web search and you may find the same site with luck.

I suppose this would be one of the easiest things to make with a 3-D printer. Gears with holes in them. It's really pretty amazing what you can do with a pen and some plastic circles with gear teeth and holes.

No intended 3D effect - it's all really just repetitive geometry - but for sure some designs do play tricks on the eyes!
