Where does the suctioned material go? I imagine if it's got amalgam and whatnot in it that it has to be filtered before it can enter the community wastewater system?

Hi, yes, there is a trap chairside to catch large pieces of amalgam. There is also a separate amalgam separator to filter out fine particles of amalgam.

Hi, there is a vacuum pump. I've heard of offices that run the lines overhead.

Why does a dentist let or want you to spit out after a drilling or cleaning, they just want to use the suction which does not get it all , I find I have to rinse and spit out in the parking lot grass which I do not like doing it’s nasty but don’t like to swallow that mess?

I've heard most offices in the USA don't have cuspidors anymore. They're still popular in the Northeast though. Speak to the dentist or the staff, they may have an alternative that you can use before you leave.
