My Chinese scooter felt good...still fell apart on a regular basis. Unless your measuring tolerances, testing metal/welds metallurgy and doing endurance tests you cannot truly test the quality. Bought an ANCIENT 25 year old mint jap bike and it has been 6x more reliable.

Not exactly an answer to your question, BUT I had a Gen. 3 MT09 for over a year. Almost 2. In that short time I put over 17k miles on it before I traded it for my Tracer. The only maintenance I had to perform in that time was tires and oil changes. The bike ran flawlessly, starting right up every single time. I'd be curious to see how a CFMOTO would hold up being ridden daily like I rode my MT.

Currently got a 2021 CFMOTO 650NK with 57,000km on it. I purchased it dealer used with 1200km on it. In the last 3 years, I have not had to do any repairs other than a snapped clutch cable. Only other expenses on it have been regular maintenance which is about $50 every 6000km. Couldn't be happier. The older CFMOTO's (pre-2019) definitely had a LOT of issues, but the new ones are really starting to get good

CF Moto ride day today at a few dealerships in Melb AU. Started off on a 450SS, then the 300SS, then the 650 NK, finally the 800 NK. Had my eye on the 450 and 300 appearance wise, 450 has plenty of performance, liked the low weight of the 300. Was not going to bother riding the 650 NK but did and enjoyed it. Both it and the 800 were comparatively easy to ride around roundabouts, my last road bike was a Z1 900B back in 1974 so a bit rusty! But the cruise control on the 800 NK was great and in a heavily policed country like Australia it frees you up to just ride and steer. Couldn’t see the TFT screen properly on the 600 with polarised sunglasses, no problem on the 800. So after today’s ride day I’d say cruise control is an essential fitting, the CF Moto one is simple and effective! Thanks to CF Moto East keilor for hosting the day!

The MT-09 is almost double the price of the 800NK here in Australia, so it's even more of a no brainer. CFMoto doesn't quite have the quality of a Honda or Yamaha, but they've been here for 2 decades & have proven reliability. Personally, I'd take a Japanese bike over them, but if you're on a budget CFMoto is a solid choice.

It's facts that they don't have the same built quality then Japanese bikes for example. Doesn't mean they suck or are bad or you get a shait quality bike. European bikes are also different and not built to the same specs. Some may be better some may be a little bit less. Doesn't mean they're bad either. CFMoto's might come with or have different features better or worse then the Japanese ones for example, but the CFMoto's are good solid bikes. Dealers around me sell them as well, and they won't do so if they didn't trust the product as well. That's the case in general. If they sucked they wouldn't be sold and marketed, expanded on and attracting bigger crowds while doing so. Also besides the MT09 there are plenty of naked bikes to compare it to. E.g. the Z800/900, GSX-S/GSX-8S, Hornet 750, CB650R, MT07, Speed Triple, KTM, MV Agusta, BMW, Ducati's to name a few other naked bikes brands. All different, yet all good, sure some are more costly in maintenance, or fail with some parts easier then others or shred tires faster, lol. 😆

Fantastic head to head compare and contrast. Fair, thorough, concise and professional. Having the owner ride his own bike really gives this review legitimacy and transparency. I've been really pushing for the NK800. I say this out of honesty, sincerity, and respect. If the only thing Ben doesn't like about the MT-07 SP is the looks, why not get an XSR900? The "zing" of the NK's parallel twin sounds just as amazing as Harley's (potato potato) rumble (and this is coming from someone who fell in love with Harley for their look and sound) I agree, spend the extra money on a pipe and track days and have an awesome 2024.❤ The NK is unashamedly what it is and that's what I respect about it and the brand.

I am not really concerned with the fit and finish of the CFmoto bikes when compared at brand new to a Japanese bike. However, the thing I am most concerned about is where the two bikes will be at when they reach 20k, 30k, or 40k miles... The Japanese bikes I feel confident will keep running as long as you take good care of them, but CFmoto I am just not sure yet. Of course, this may not be an issue for most people cause many riders will never put that many miles on their bikes before selling them anyway. On the topic of selling bikes though, I wonder how the resale value will hold on the CFmoto compared to Japanese competitors.
@rotorhead5000

That's exactly how I look at it. How nice a thing is when it's new isn't necessarily a good indicator of how well it's made. I've got several older yamaha bikes in the stable, and the two bush pigs get absolutely flogged, chucked, dropped, abused, and neglected, yet they always fire right up, and are ready to go another day. That to me is a sign of a well made thing, I don't doubt that CF can make a bike that will withstand the test of time, but will they?
@commanderdueler6256
@commanderdueler6256 6 ай бұрын
They're probably not going to hold their resale value as well as their Japanese counterparts. Just my experience, older Japanese motorcycles can still sell just because potential buyers have the confidence that it's going to work for years. Chinese motorcycles are not going to have this going for them. Until maybe they are in the market for a couple of years and people gain confidence in their reliability.

It's worth mentioning, the CFMOTO is made in the exact same factory as the KTM 790, by the same people. KTM 790s have solid reliability, and this motor is an even lower state of tune so it's going to be just fine.

If 790s have solid reliability I wonder what bad reliability looks like... And no, they wont hold their value. I learned that lesson with my Kia. It was and still is an awesome car, absolutely bulletproof. But after 5 years, I needed a bigger car because of my growing family and the price that I could have gotten was laughable. I just gave it away to my sister and it is still going strong after 10 years.

My only complaint about CFMoto bikes, after owning the 300NK and riding the 300SS and 450SS, is the fact that they often "lose" neutral when the bike warms up, and they absolutely hate cold starts on cold days. With my 300NK, there were times I was worried it wouldn't start on sub 45f days because it would crank and whine for a good 20 seconds before actually starting. And when riding for more than 20-30 minutes, trying to kick it into neutral, it just wouldn't. Even when it was "in" neutral, the indicator light wouldn't kick on, and letting off the clutch or putting the stand down would often kill the bike.

Just about to pull the trigger on a new bike, here in the Philippines. Currently own a Yamaha R3 and a Yamaha Sniper 150. At 60+, I am finding the R3 is just a little bit too uncomfortable on my wrists on a long ride (250+ miles). The Sniper is capable of long rides, but lacks a little bit of oomph, especially two up. There are no freeways on Mindanao, and 60-65mph is about as fast as it's sensible to ride. I've narrowed down my choices to either a Husqvarna Svartpilen 200, or a CFMOTO 300 CLX (I did have the Suzuki 250 SX Vstrom on the list, but my wife vetoed it on the pillion seat being too high). Unless I can haggle a reasonable discount on the Husky, the CFMOTO will be my next bike. I did manage to haggle a good deal on the Husky. So I'm now the proud owner of a Svartpilen 200, and have put about 600km on the clock.

I think you will be a fool these days to say that China can't make quality products. They absolutely can. As a Japanese national, I see similarities between China now and Japan in the 70's. They are finally putting out quality and they aren't afraid to innovate and try new things out. A lot of us here in Japan wish the Japanese manufacturers stop playing it so safe and try to be more innovative. Atm it only feels like Kawasaki that is innovating and putting out products that their customers really want. Chinese bikes might not be there yet, but competition is always good and I'm hoping this will push other manufacturers to up their game.

While I was at the dealership changing the oil on my CF Moto NK 400 I met a Kawasaki owner he just got brand new and was having problems as the battery would drain overnight and he had to start it manually, (foot Pedal) it was already his third visit and the mechanics couldn't figure out the problem. So much for Japan quality.

Saw the CFMOTO in a shop the other day, and amongst the ducs and triumphs it stood out - a really beautiful machine. Interesting to see how Kiska design kept a signature look (KTM 790), but changed the whole feel of the machine. If it had TC, I'd be sorely tempted. BTW - the QS is a plug and play option for a couple hundred more. I think another comparo might be this VS the xsr900 - which, again, is more expensive, but would the $2k stretch be worth it.

The CP3 is such a gem of a motor once unlocked with an proper ECU flash(2 wheel dynoworks or others). There's quite nothing i've ridden close to the excitement that motor brings other than the MT10 which is smoother.(Although I'd love to ride a 765 Triumph sometime). Wish Yamaha would hurry up and bring out the R9 with it.

Quality, much to the chagrin of spite, includes things that will not be apparent when you spend a week on a new bike. Come back in three years when the plastic and rubber formulations that make up fluid seals, electrical connecters etc, are crumbling to bits. Not to mention subpar metallurgy that will allow one part to become many parts. I know, iv'e had four of such bikes. Also have a ninja 250 that I bought in 2002. Still runs like a top. Remember when CSC was starting to come out? Qiangjiang? Zongshen? It's the same thing over and over. They build up the hype, and say "this time its different", and then after awhile the reality sets in for the suckers that bought into it and made a purchase. Cheats

@MrDavidfuchser. You're right. Spite doesn't know about the quality in 3 years time. Neither do I, nor you. Like many, you are making assumptions based on bias. We will have to wait and see. After owning a CFMoto for 2 years I suspect everything would be fine in another year. Unfortunately I sold it 1 year ago and regretted that 2 weeks after selling it. I sold the wrong bike - should have been my Versys 300 but not for the obvious reasons. I'm getting older and losing my strength and sense of balance. The Versys was just too high in the seat. I was fine on the CFMoto. If our experience in Australia is anything to go by, CFMoto is in it for the long haul.

Question: why is a quick shifter even a desirable thing for most people? Is it to be a split second faster while accelerating, or just ultimate laziness? I prefer having to shift the old fashioned way, so I don't see the appeal at all. The NK looks pretty nice, from its Loki-ish headlight to the tip of its exhaust, but then it fails miserably. Where the heck did the last 20 percent of the motorcycle go behind the pillion/taillight? Call me crazy or old school, but I loath 'tail-tidys' and/or splashguards attached to the swingarm. Motorcycles are meant to have a rear fender or ducktail, such as the original Z-1.

As the video went on there was more and more “allowances” being made for the CFMoto, it think you two were being a little harsh on the MT’s appearance, I will agree it could certainly look better and the CF’s headlight certainly looked better but that’s where it ends for me at least. I see that the CF’s suspension had some professional set up changes but I assume the MT was factory? This is much more important than most people give credit and you may have found if the same opportunity for a pro to set up the suspension on the MT it certainly would’ve been beneficial at the very least as this effects huge aspects of how a bike and it’s rider gets down the road. The motor is a non issue, the engine in the MT particularly in this latest model is an absolute peach and the CF will never be able to compete in its current configuration. Bottom line is I think you are getting your money’s worth from the MT, the CF is a good value proposition but there’s also the standard MT09 which I’m guessing sits in between these two pricing wise which is also an excellent bike so I’m thinking here you actually are getting what you’re paying for and at the end of the day it comes down to budget and desire..

I recognize that CF Moto has good models, and even a slightly better price,.. but still,.. in these two models and even more so being the SP version,.. it's clear to me that I preferred the MT 09,.. above all because the Yamaha crossplane family engines are some of the best today,.. several mechanics from all over the world say that in the case of MT,.. it is rarely necessary to repair or change anything beyond the normal overhaul, even with a few dozen thousands of km already driven,..in my opinion, this CF bike has its price, its asset,..,. and the truth is that the bike in general is much more western than Chinese,.. seeing the equipment and engine it has,..,. and that's not even bad,..and it could be interesting for those who want a mt 07,. or a Hornet 750 and you can give a little more and have something more premium, more complete and more powerful,..but against the 09,. I don't think it will,.. great sales lady, the 3 cylinder conveys something very different and in my opinion,.. I believe it is more exciting,.. but each one knows,. what should you choose...
