So I have no experience with the NK800 however I do have experience with the NK300. I work for an MSF School. We have 12 NK300's as training bikes. Of those 12 bikes in the coarse of a year of ownership, we have experienced 1 complete wire harness malfunction, 1 display failure, 1 thermostat failure, a couple leaks/gasket failure's, and almost every battery has failed. Despite the above, I still think they are pretty good bikes and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Again, a small sample size but this is my experience with a dozen bikes in about 12 months of ownership in Arizona with the highest mileage bike being around the 500 mile mark and the average being around 300 miles.

The oil spill was probably from using too big of a funnel. It happened to me with my 790 Duke and once i bought a smaller funnel so air could escape out of the fill hole, i could fill it no problem. You will always have to fill twice however. I fill it till the sight glass is all the way to the top, turn on the engine for a few seconds, then fill to middle of the glass. I change the oil every 5k and it's at 40k now. The bike has a neat way to remind you to change the oil though. The quickshifter starts to feels 'gritty' telling you its time to change.

Hey Spite, the only recommendations I would do with any of the bikes I buy would be to grease the wheel bearing seals, spacers & axle (F&R), grease the swingarm bearings/seals, grease the headstem bearings & apply anti-seize to the chain adjuster bolt threads going into the aluminium swingarm. The main reason: All manufacturers apply FA grease to save on costs & I get to learn about dissembling and reassembling the components. A fellow American YTer has an 800MT & has replaced the swingarm bearings, seals & sleeves because of the lack of grease from the factory & because of a couple of low water crossings & gravel roads. I’d expect the 800NK to be similar.

Bearing checks - there is a process for this that isn't just "it rides fine" AND isn't pulling wheels etc. get the wheel off the ground, check that it rolls without any grinding. Grab the wheel, and try to rock it in directions it shouldnt move in, make sure there's zero play. Steering bearing: when the front is up, ensure the bars can move smoothly stop to stop with no hitching. Grab the bottom of the forks, try to push and pull them, make sure there's no movement. Same with other bearings - elevate, try to move in directions it shouldnt move in. A worn bearing will allow a little play that will be noticeable over a long arm (like forks, swingarm length, wheel size, etc.) Do check these things and you'll find problems before they're noticable riding because problems will present very gradually and it's easy to not notice till it's REAL bad.

So the possibility of having a good bike in case of CF Moto maybe 90 per cent. It is quite certain that you get a good bike. But social media will ensure that all the bad ones come public and that makes people fear that every bike is going to break. My 300NK had oil dirty black after initial 800km (500 mi) break-in, and same after next 3500km (2200 mi). I think it is due to fuel quality (our "Premium" isn't that premium).

That oil filter @ 4:30 didn't look real healthy, but you mentioned it in the pinned comment. Compression tests could have shown if the rough break-in affected the rings/cylinders getting sealed properly. Best (tested) chain lube is gear oil. It's good to see that an experienced motorcyclist/vlogger can be clumsy like myself...lol. Thanks for the video.

I really enjoyed this video, and while it is an Anecdote, that is still a better data point than random rumors in the comments section. After seeing this test, I feel confident enough to give CFMOTO a fair try.

Looks like a typical KTM dual drain plug with mesh screen oil change. If it's like my KTM 1290, those drain plugs are as soft as butter. I bought a set to keep on hand, since they seem to want to round off more and more with each oil change.

In my opinion as they are cheap they're gonna be great starter bikes and great to learn on the basics from maintenance and getting to ride a bike even amateur or pro as long as its maintained properly, a lot of people in asia have proven cfmoto reliable with proper maintenance. Speaking from experience the older cfmoto had shiz electronics apart from that it took me from point a to point b and kept me safe especially with their abs and the brakes were there to stop the bike.
@mrd43356 ай бұрын
Watch the video, the paper filter was sparkling like a Christmas 🎄 decoration.?? He made sure it was quickly thrown in the used oil out the way. I've owned a Cfmoto and must admit l did love the ride it offered, l did enjoy it and only problem l had was the abs light was bit iffy. But for the money it was great fun little bike, l only sold to go bigger and it wasn't much more to get a cb650r with great Honda quality. I would say they are built to same quality as the Yamaha MT range. Unfortunately the depression is bad on them. Thanks for reviewing, aprishate it 👍

It's easy to say that at 600 miles but with the 790 engine and the question over the cam shaft longevity, if you are going to have issues it will be around 15,000 to 20,000 miles from what I've seen, so it will remain to be seen 😉

No worries about sample size. You rode your bike. No indications of catastrophic engine failure or heavy abuse. Where was the engine made? China? This isn't the 1970s, it is a water cooled modern cycle. No dank nooners, or screaming burnouts. Heck. It's fine.
@JohnnieV9 ай бұрын
Did you try all 3 ride modes? Mine really stutters in low gears low RPMS. I was worried if I’d make it home. I was 50 miles away. Once I got it on the highway it ran fine. I’m a lil concerned about the in/out gas flow. Doesn’t have a carb obviously so we will see at the 1000km first service this week.

Would cranking the bike with the throttle wide open be better to pump the oil around instead of actually starting it? On all of the bikes ive owned you can do that to crank but not start the bike. This is for non carburetor bikes. I do it after storing my bike over the winter. Helps get oil moving around and lube things up in the top end before i actually start it up.
@marcbrasse7474 ай бұрын
If possible cranking without running is indeed the best. No idea why you would have to open up the throttle though. At least not to help the oil get around although it might help to free some residue in the induction system if the fuel contains alcohol.

@spitescorner When you had to cycle the oil, did you have to close it up or just ran it with the filler cap open? How many seconds did you allow it to idle before adding more?
@spitescorner9 ай бұрын
I closed the cap and turned it on, then immediately back off. Just enough for the oil pump to cycle. It probably would have been fine to idle, since I was off by like a 1/10th of a quart.
