the spit was modified countless times as the war went on,the two seater version came along a few years after the battle of britain.

The Spit had pneumatic flaps, gear was hydraulic from pretty early on. The first few examples were hand-cranked and resulted in what the pilots called 'Spitfire Knuckle', so this was fixed as soon as possible. The later Spiteful used hydraulics for both gear and flaps, which could be a real problem if you lost your hydraulics and intended to land at all.

They made a training version not many of them and i think they explain it somewhere in this series.
