In my humble opinion the most beautiful WW2 fighter ever designed. That wing silhouette!

It's more than 60 years old, give it some credit! I'd like to see all your cylinders firing correctly at 60!

Hey Foxy! Mine do, and, I'm 75! Naturally spirited too! No redex, viagra, or, any other additives. Oh, okay, a few glasses of red and a glass of the Murphy's does help get started. It's like the young farmer all those years ago, he bought a new David Brown tractor. Every morning he catered for its needs, every night he cleaned it down - now 60 years later, both the farmer and the tractor are still working the fields. Just goes to show, keep well oiled, let your exhaust run free, and, you're in paradise - so, who wants to go to boring old heaven? So, okay, when no more Spitfires are flying, we'll have another think about heaven. Kindest regards, Bill.

I love the both but in particular I love the Griffon..... It's a really different sound of POWER
@1frameatthetime9 жыл бұрын
The first one is a Mk XIV with a Griffon engine which has a lot more capacity and power than the Packard built Merlin powered MKVI in the second clip. The Griffon use a different firing order as well which makes it sound different from the Merlin.

Actually I think you will find that the first spit is a Mk XVIII and the second merlin engined one is a Mk XVI. which was the only variant with the packard built Merlin.

And the ROLLS ROYCE Merlin sounds fabulous. Doesn't it, littlefartingtractor?

Har du sett en spit över Bromölla så är jag nästan hundra på att det är den andra i det här klippet. Den första kraschade tyvärr Bertil med i Norge 2010.

Griffin engined Spit, poss mk 14... I adore all Spitfires, but I have to admit the Merlins are my favourite, particularly with the later 61, 66 Merlin, like the mkIX... 2 speed, 2 stage supercharged loveliness! They just sound better to me, but...I love all Spits! :)

The difference in sound is tremendous between the two spits ,long live No2 (Merlin) a sound to die for once heard never forgotten. The Griffon is too harsh and vulgar BUT is more powerful
@blowingfree69287 жыл бұрын
The Merlin is a Rolls Royce engine, not a Packard engine. Packard made some under licence later in the war.
@blowingfree69287 жыл бұрын
Oops I forgot it was a mk XVI!!!! Funnily enough although I have always admired the Spit' I have always felt that the Mk XVI was not particularly attractive, particularly the bubble canopy version; I think is the tail fin, which looks small and ill-formed.

Soaringtractor - The fact that you cannot put a sentence together without swearing is convincing proof that you are unable to put forward a reasoned arguament. You probably think it is intimidating. It is not. The conversation was about the Spitfire, not about other aircraft that used the majority of packard built Merlins (e.g. Lancaster Mk III, Canadian built Hurricanes etc). The only Spitfire Mk that used a packard built Merlin was the Mk XVI. Suggest YOU do the research before opening you ill informed and abusive mouth!!!
@blowingfree69287 жыл бұрын
Soaringtractor - you really are thick as shit. You have no idea what you are talking about. Rolls Royce designed the Merlin and built the majority of Merlins for the RAF; packard built them under licence you fucking moron with some of them being used for the Spitfire MkXVI only and others for a couple of variants of other aircraft. The Merlin was the best allied engine of WW2 - DEAL WITH IT!!! The RAF put a Rolls Royce Merlin into the p51 first as it only had a crappy american Alison engine. The americans then built more merlins under licence to put in the p51. FACTS!! Most British aircraft used British engines FACTS!! You are too uneducated to have done any research FACTS!!!Do not reply with your stupid retarded comments - go back to fucking your sister!! FACTS!!! Deal with it!!!

Yes, in Ljungbyhed, southern Sweden. There is a Spitfire and a Mustang that comes to Ljungbyhed from time to time. They are stationed in Ängelholm, also in southern Sweden.
