I loved this movie so much growing up as a kid. I used to run home to watch it every night it came on. When my mom got me the movie as a present I watched it everyday for like two weeks. Nostalgic :)
Splash has remained as one my favorite romantic comedies. The chemistry between Tom Hanks & Darryl Hannah is enchanting and magical. A man whose convinced he can't fall in love meets a woman who is everything he's ever wanted except for one thing she's a mermaid. I remember the scene in which Allen's brother Freddie played by the late John Candy reminds him of how lucky he is to have Madison in his life "Some people will never be that happy" "I'll never be that happy".

This is one of the greatest films of all time. It’s a lovely film showing a man encounter someone who he truly feels pure love to and had (unbeknownst to him) had seen her when he was only just a child. It’s just a fine excellent and beautiful comedic love story, in addition with a fantastic cast to make it also even better and memorable!

The 1980s was filled with rampant consumerism, narcissism, sexism, racism, classism, and materialism. You must have had a pretty sheltered, privileged life in the 1980s if you don’t remember the AIDS epidemic, the War on Drugs, Bernie Goetz shooting four black teens inside a NYC subway, and imminent fears of nuclear war.

Not only that but it’s the live action version of “The Little Mermaid” before the actual live action remake of “The Little Mermaid” comes out in 2023! 😂 Ironically, we almost didn’t get the ANIMATED “Little Mermaid” movie since according to Disney CEO Michael Eisner’s memoir “Work In Progress: Risking Failure, Surviving Success”, he and Disney studio chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg initially rejected the pitch for “The Little Mermaid” due to concerns that it sounded too similar to “Splash”: *”I had always loved the idea of setting an animated movie underwater, but both Jeffrey and I were concerned that this idea sounded too much like the live-action ‘Splash’, which Disney had released early in 1984, six months before we arrived.”* And well, they weren’t exactly wrong about that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3yYkKZ9r8ierMU
