What you described at 9:55 is possible at least with my Ronin RS3 and Sony A74. You can bind a Ronin button to switch AF on/off so it won't focus on a subject passing the frame. It's also handy if you loose focus and just double press it to give the camera the command to "refocus".

I'm very intrigued by this new system from DJI! As someone who is getting more into KZbin and filming myself, I really prefer to use manual focus cinema lenses as I just love the look of them. But not having autofocus when filming yourself is really tough sometimes. I held out on buying the LiDAR rangefinder for my RS3 Pro because I was fine pulling focus manually when shooting other subjects. But when it comes to filming myself, I don't want to have to setup a gimbal on a tripod and waste time balancing lenses. Not needing the gimbal, having autofocus on a manual focus lens, and the beautiful grip and wheel system... yeah, I'll probably end up forking up the cash for this one!

I was considering using this on my Canon R5C even though it has auto focus in camera settings, as well as AF mode on Canon RF mount stills lenses, it actually does a decent job. However I still have 0.8 mod pitch geared lenses from DZO, which will come in handy using the DJI Focus pro unit. 🎉 A win for those that have manual lenses that can autofocus on the fly.

I finally got mine. All extras are from Smallrig. I put the wooden handle with an NPF battery plate on top on the left. Put two rails underneath and put the Lidar underneath the lens and the motor on the right side. I switched around the Focus Grip so it can mount on the right side as Im right handed. I have a BMPCC 6K so I use the NPF battery for long walks sightseeing that goes ontop of the wooden handle. Going on Safari in a few weeks so I will use a 90 V mount battery on that back of the rails pointed down words so I can leave in it on the edge of the safari vehicle resting on sandbags. Have another part coming in so I can quickly take off the Handles and switch to DJI RS4 Pro with a NPF battery mount on the side of the gimbal. Right now I cant get it to balance as I think its to tall and the new rail base plate will lower it. Right now its as compact as I can get and dont see any others that have done it the same way. Anyone wants a pic let me know and you or someone else can make a tutorial.

Hey Sam, I film primarily with anamorphics but the Moment anamorphic adapter does not have electronic focus. Similarly, the new Black Magic Pixis doesn’t have autofocus, but with this DJI kit I would be able to get auto focus and even zoom on a telephoto lens into the Pixis. The only downside is the increased cost, complexity, and how to configure the handle and everything. Personally, I’d rather the option of a control box which then uses whichever monitor you have to select focus points and subjects and stuff, but that’s just me.
