fun fact, the magnetic polar reversals of Earth happen roughly every 12000 years. Just as Splatoon is likely going through one or about to go through one, we now are on the verge of experiencing one ourselves.

I'm sure you're already having idea about this, but its just a fun coincidence the Splatoon 3 reveal happened not long after you posted this. I think the theory geo magnetic reversal is good. I personally also feel there's reason to believe that the shores are beginning to recede along with a lot of the other enviromental changes that have happened since mollusk civilization took to dry land. Its worth noting that fair number of environmental conditions come together to form a temperate climate that helped mammalian life flourish and helped us as humans reach prominence. It might be fair to assume that sapient mollusk life also exist as it does in splatoon for a fair set of conditions that made it preferable and or necesary to live on land. Said conditions could be the change of tides, drastic change of sea temperature, change in magnetic poles, you name it. They could have been effects that made it harder to live on sea, or positive effects that gave them more options to live on land. Outside of the potential of outside interference, changes in Salmon Migration could be any number of thing. As your theory call into question the focus of magnetic fields as they relate to salmon run and mollusk biology, I would also question the mechanics of the changing tide levels during matches, and how that could relate aswell. Now seeing the reveal trailer, with a focus on this barren wasteland outside of the city, I'm left wondering if some of this was underwater at some point, long before mollusk claimed dry land.

@Everettalla2 жыл бұрын
My big theory is that all inklings live on a supercontinent with little islands peppered around a short radius of the supercontinent. Similar to Asia, most cities are on the coast, and the splatlands are in the middle of the supercontinent. There’s probably more sizable ‘island’ on the other side of the planet in this universe that Inklings just haven’t discovered yet. Also bold of Nintendo to put like icebergs and stuff in the return of the mammalians trailer, I feel like they would’ve all melted by now.
@hesiod_delta92093 жыл бұрын
Marina's spacetime distortion comment likely relates to a real theoretical concept: the alcubierre drive. Essentially, the front-mounted electromagnets produce a mass-energy density force, producing gravitation, which opposes an anti-gravitational force mounted on the back. I'll spare you the details of relativity and point you to some great presentations of the subject, the ScienceClic relativity playlist: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raPamHygd7qMjMU

My theory is that during Octo Expansion the facility is close to the earths core and the closer you get to the core more powerful magnetic fields become also, keep in mind the Earth's magnetic field about one one billionth the power of a fridge magnet the magnet on your fridge is stronger than the earth by a billion times the fact the inklings is by extension octolings can sense a field that small is amazing I believe that octarian technology although considerably advanced is nowhere near the level that we possessed and that whatever software she's using to scan it's far weaker than any conventional method we would have.

About not having Octarian lore, we actually do, or at least a significant morsel; One of the Sunken Scrolls depict DJ Octavio getting "essence" of some kind siphoned from him, and it becoming a Octarian... I believe this is what Marie (best waifu) meant when she says "I believe Octarians shouldn't have rights" in the story mode of S2 (I think it was 2), It wasn't racism, she says this because it's true; she knows they're clones/homunculus of Octavio... This also goes along with actual Squid/Octo biology, of their arms being able to act on their own when separated from the main body...

While the whole magnetic thing only has three appearances in the shape of bare text inGame, it does sound like something that could have been either really well foreshadowed by the Squid Lab... ... Or something that just ends up being mentioned once as a sidesalad before never being relevant again similar to other things in the Splatoon Lore. Let‘s see which one of these two things will turn out to be true in a year or two lel
Damn man, you might be just a kid but your theory are some next level that other theorist didn't able to think about it! That magnetic thingy is very complex yet interesting! Definitely looking forward for your Splatoon theory and i'm subscribing. And also yeah, step aside matpat. It's also interesting that maybe, the humans was killed WAY before the mass flood, because of the cosmic radiation caused during the Geomagnetic Reversal. And the flood is not as big as everyone though it.. (Also i've found that maybe Matpat didn't quite interested in splatoon lore, since there is only one splatoon video of his. For splatoon theory I prever Lockstin & Gnoggin)
@rassicas4 жыл бұрын
LOL I'm almost 22 years old so I'm pretty sure I'm not a kid anymore, but thank you! And yes!!! Maybe that radiation helped kill off not only humans, but other mammals like dolphins and rats that one would expect to have survived the great flood? (I agree, lockstin & gnoggin make much better researched stuff for splatoon! fun fact, their splatoon 3 prediction video uses several of my old translations from the second artbook as well as my translation of a developer's interview... and I'm not credited for my work. Geomagnetic reversals are usually not that big of a deal. They would throw off compasses and organisms with magnetoreception, but besides that they wouldn't do much on their own. However, some fictional technology specifically designed to use magnetic forces could be affected by it indirectly I suppose.
