As far as I know, Rick and Jennifer were super into paranormal studies in the first game, and so wound up at the West mansion -- the site of unspeakable rites and ghastly experiments in the recent past, *OoOoo*, a bit of an homage to Herbert West of H.P. Lovecraft fame, I think -- where they are attacked by cool gooey monsters and Jennifer gets kidnapped by the same. An injured Rick makes a pact with the Terror Mask and finally rescues her . . . only to have her transform into a monster and be forced to kill her. Jennifer is actually DEAD from the get-go in this one (although the U.S. translation muddies that a bit, or so I understand), and you are going to the "hidden" mansion near the ruins of the West mansion (the burnt ruins in the first stage of Splatterhouse 2) to look for a portal to the Underworld.

I've bought so many versions of many Nintendo IPs multiple times. There's just no way Nintendo ever truly fails. Maybe they have a system here or there that doesn't do well, but their IPs are gold.

The Xbox360 Splatterhouse is good for a Splatterhouse fan even with a few issues and glitches. Stay away from the PS3 port as it has a terrible framerate.

Main villain of the Splatterhouse series is Dr. West. The mansion they go down in is named after him. The XB360/PS3 game is basically a reboot of the original game. Too bad it was rushed in development & got some content cut + has some choppy audio & buggy gameplay toward the end. Loved hearing the voice of Darkwing Duck/Negaduck as the terror mask 👍.

Jennifer died on the first game, but the mask tells you you can get her back if you go back to the mansion. The mansion burnt down at the end of the first game, but Rick finds a second mansion hidden behind the ruins (kind of stupid). The monster who took Jennifer is "The evil one" (blue giant that chases Rick after he rescues Jennifer. Comes back at the end of the third game).

There is a slight mistranslation with Splatterhouse 2, where it says "You have to go back to the mansion" when there is actually a second, secret mansion. As for the plot, during the first game you reach your girlfriend Jennifer.. only to have her mutate into a giant, uncontrollable monster... you're forced to kill her, and then destroy the entire mansion to make sure the horrors never happen again. Now 3 months later, you begin to have visions of Jennifer's soul being pulled into hell and the mask goading you into putting it on, saying you can save her. So you must go find the secret mansion, enter the hell gate and save your girlfriend... only for the mask to turn on you in the end.

Unpopular opinion, but I loved the Ps3/360 version more than the originals and I grew up on them. It is definitely flawed (hell, most games are, let's be honest), but I enjoyed it tremendously. It's a bit tough if you go for all the achievements, but worth a playthrough just for the experience.

Such a wasted opportunity that game. The visuals, the soundtrack, the story, are great but then you get to the RTS style missions and it falls apart. Tried playing it multiple times but I always quit after 2-3 RTS missions. It's not fun, in fact it's annoying.

@@mikematei Yeah, but I don't think it worked out quite well in practice. To get the good ending, you pretty much need to have played the game enough to know all the routes and have a near flawless run. Maybe it's just my dislike of games with strict time limits.

I have played the original game on the Turbo Graphixs back in the day and fell in love with it. The remake on the Xbox didnt get a chance to play it. As far as this secon version of the game i didnt know it existed.Might have to try and find it .
