First time I saw the power jerk was Dimas, and I was surprised because it looked "easier" than doing a split. Back then I thought it was weird that people were allowed to compete with different jerks. Now I realize they all have their pros and cons.

Dave, great video for further insight into the jerk variations. I'd love to see a similar break down into the different schools of thought regarding bar contact. I'm a personally biased to a fairly aggressive contact (up obviously), but there is a lot of people who seem to push the 'brush' or say 'don't bounce the bar' (I agree, it isn't a bounce...), or the other mi-raid of bullshit on the internet. It'd be great to see a similar break down of the different methodologies, and techniques. Keep fighting the good fight! USA!!!!!!!

Appreciate this video and sharing of knowledge. I’m fairly new to oly, coming over from powerlifting - the jerk is my weakness, this is great information. Subbed. Cheers!

Very fascinating explanation of the complexities and overlaps in the movements. Squat Jerk looks intense. I like the accessory movements within this video(especially the split Jerk practice lunges) as well i think that might be helpful to try too.

good to mention too that a split jerk allows for more correction potential when the bar is overhead. Requires less accuracy

Definitely gonna try the plyo power jerk variation.

I've never lifted before January 1, 2019 ... I'm soon to be 67. I've developed a sore left knee. My left leg is my "fall out" leg in the jerk. My question for you is this. In the clean, is the split clean (either cleaning the snatch or the clean in the clean and jerk) the best clean to do for a sore left knee?? It seems to be. Do you have any suggestions for healing this slightly sore knee now, other than rest and ice?? What exercises??

Dam if you are 67, I don't think it is too healthy to try Olympic weight lifting. You should go with cardio/calisthenics. Much safer.

Thx for posting. Any danger in the plates sliding outward in the plyo PJ?

First time I saw Dimas do a power jerk in olympics, I thought what the heck isn't this easier than doing split? But I didn't realize every variation has a trade off.

How in the world is the squat-jerk more efficient? It’s the most demanding of the three, and it has no margin for error. There’s a reason the split jerk is the “default,” and athletes switch to one of the other two if and only f they have a very good reason (style is not a good reason.)
@Ole-oj3ep3 жыл бұрын
margin for error does not make something more or less efficient. imma guess his point is that you barely use any energy on the dip and drive, the fault is almost entirely in the catch position. And if an athlete gets under the bar in a squat jerk, they can easily stand it up

squat jerk is the hardest. split jerk is cheating for weak ass lifters or tall lifters. power is mehh... squat jerk is beautiful. just raw power.
