Split Screen | On-Screen Control installation on a MacBook | OSC | Apple

Simple and easy way to install On-Screen Control on a MAC Book. If your MAC does not have a HDMI port, you may need an adapter depending on the type of MAC you have.
In the video, I used a MacBook Air 2015 model running macOS Mojave version 10.14.

why would you need this? MacOS gives you the option to multidisplay without needing 3rd party software (in this case, from a very intrusive Company... LG wants me to accept they can monitor everything my 65 Oled displays)

@@dailytechtussle2272 unfortunately it didn't work as I imagined. I bought an LG Ultrawide monitor model 29WK600-W using the Thunderbolt port. On Screen Control does not recognize my monitor model. According to LG support, using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter makes this impossible. I'm looking into the option of buying a new Thunderbolt straight cable for Display Port.

Thanks for the tips, however this doesn't seem to work for those with an M1, Big Sur setup. Im running Big Sur 11.2.2 on a MBA M1 with an LG 34WK95U and no luck getting it the on screen controller to work. Dual controller works though.

@@samardhaliwal3702 I'm having this same issue. It either won't recognize the monitor. Or, it will say not to mirror. But, then, if you undo the mirroring, then it stops mirroring, so you can't turn on the onscreen control!!! Because you're only on your Mac Pro ... this is SO FRUSTRATING!!! I somehow got it to work once, but not sure how I did it. But, I've since used my laptop elsewhere and coming back ... and now it doesn't work.

You need to ensure that you have an LG monitor connected to your laptop properly. Check the cable, adapter and ensure you can see the screen connected then restart the application or laptop and try again. If that fails, un-install and re-install the application.

Maybe I can try helping if you tell me specific details of which step you are getting stuck on? Are you able to launch On-Screen Control at all? or do you get a specific error? Also refer to the troubleshooting steps I mentioned in the video towards the end, they might help.

I'm having these error problems. I got it to work at some point miraculously - not sure what made it finally work. But, then came back after using my laptop elsewhere and it won't work. The turning off mirror simply shifted the control back to the laptop, so there wasn't any mouse ability on the monitor to launch the onscreen control. Now it says my monitor isn't registered .. I'm so confused!!!

Thunderbolt to HMDI cable should work, if it doesn't then just get the adapter.

Great video. I notice that at 3mins55secs your OnScreen panel has 4 options on the left column (Screen Split, Monitor Settings, etc) but at 4mins15secs that same panel only has one option (Screen Split). I've installed the OnScreen app but am only getting the one option. Any ideas why I can't view the other three options or how to make them appear? Thanks

I don't have a straight forward answer to that question. I think the options changed because I was modifying the background settings of the laptop... I would advise that an LG monitor connected and that you are using the correct version of the On-Screen Control application for you monitor. If that fails, you can try re-installing and restarting your Mac.

I've got exactly the same problem. It's really frustrating trying to plug in the cables in a certain order etc. Having to wait until the next version which will hopefully fix it :(

I had the same issue today, which brought me to this video as I am looking for possible solutions. All 4 settings initially show, and then less than 5 seconds later three of them disappear and all I'm left with is "Screen Split." I spent about 30 minutes chatting with LG Support, and their only advice was to attempt a direct connection by either HDMI to HDMI or DVI to DVI. Which I informed them neither of my MacBooks have, and that my LG monitor has 2 HDMI and 1 DisplayPort slots. I've owned 4 different MacBooks and one iMac over the last 12 years and I have no recollection of any of those having an HDMI slot. Reflecting on it now, it seems that their advice is informing me that they know the full suite of features for OSC works on Windows computers. I have a HDMI to USB-C 4K cable as well as a DisplayPort to Thunderbolt 2 cable arriving tomorrow, so that seems to be my last hope of getting OnScreen Control to work with all 4 settings showing instead of just "Screen Split." I wonder how many people LG Support gets contacting them about this same issue for Macs, and they have no solution readily available to provide.

I know minimum you can use up 4, but I'm not sure about 10... I guess it would depend on a few things, such as what your graphics card can handle along with how you are connecting the displays...i.e. the type of adapter you're going to be using.

If you're monitor is not LG, you should consider using other similar free applications available. The two I would recommend you check out are: - Microsoft PowerToys: which is a free windows split screen application - Shutter Split Screen: which is also free windows split screen application Both Microsoft PowerToys and Shutter Split Screen work and look very similar to OnScreen Control application used specifically for LG monitors. You can get mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters that support 2k/4k, just make sure that your HDMI cable can also support it.

It will not work since the application will expect an LG monitor to be connect and you will see a message stating ' There is no connected monitor'. If you don't have LG monitor I suggest other applications such as 'Snap' which comes with Windows 10. - Snap with a mouse: Select the title bar of the window you want to snap, and drag it to the edge of your screen. - Snap with a keyboard: Select the window you want to snap and press the Windows Logo Key Windows logo Start button + Left Arrow or the Windows You can also use others like 'Shutter Split Screen' or 'Microsoft PowerToys' etc. Hope that helps :)

I would check the following: 1 - Reboot your MAC and ensure it is update to date. 2 - Ensure the HDMI cable is properly inserted on both ends. 3 - Ensure you have selected to use HDMI output on your monitor. 3 - Try using a different HDMI cable, maybe you have a faulty one. Make sure it's not damaged or bent anywhere.

I have the same problem with an LG 32UN880 together with a MacBook Pro running Big Sur. The message "cannot detect monitor" actually comes up on the monitor. Great monitor, terrible instructions and support from LG.

You can do this on most LG monitors. If On-Screen control isn't available for your specific LG monitor model then use the next available one. Just make sure that the size of your monitor and the On-Screen control application is the same. For example, if you have 32inch monitor then download the 32in On-Screen control application available on LG's website and it should work. The model of the On-Screen Control application and your monitor does not have to match but it's better if it does. Remember that On-Screen control is designed for the ultra-wide monitors to allow you to better use the space on your monitor and multi-task much more efficiently.

I don't have the same monitor as you and apparently mine is not supported so I tried searching for your model number and it also comes up as "There is no matching product." The few monitors that are supported don't have a Mac option for download. The LG app in the Mac app store only supports basically one monitor model. This is perplexing to me as the upload date of your video is recent yet nothing in your video seems to match up with reality, even the LG website looks different in your video.

So, searching for a specific monitor brings up the no matching product message but if you scroll through all the monitors on the support page my monitor shows up but unfortunately it only has Windows drivers.

So, if anybody is having the same issue as I am just find the next closest monitor to yours, for example I have the 27UN850 which didn't have a Mac download associated with it but the 27UL850 does and it works on the 27UN850.

As long as the size of the screen (in your case 27") is the same as the On-Screen Control application, you shouldn't see any issues with it, however you may not see specific features available for a particular monitor model in the On-Screen Control application. I hope that makes sense.
