Run the end of the crampon strap under your boot cable or laces then tighten your boots ,this helps prevent the strap from loosening up in most cases . Ive also seen people use paracord tied from the crampons with a loop tied at the end with a tiny carabiner to hook to your boot / laces . Happy shredding

Thanks for the advice, I'll give that a try... i plan on trying some Burton Tourist boots, but assume even if the fit is better the same thing could happen. Cheers!

I'm looking to pay people to take me up middle sister. I've been up once to the ridge and it was early summer. Still ice sheet. I quit. I've been up in summer and the crevace freaked me out. I'm fit. I regularly ski black butte. I live in bend. I moved here from Seattle last summer. Work in restaurants.

Do you skin up when you ski? I do plan on splitting middle sister and making a video some point when things line up. Sounds like you were up there early in the morning or on a cloudy day? It takes a little longer for the sun to hit the final pitch of the standard route.

@@summitspecials I went up july 9th 2020 by myself with microspikes a hoody and a piece of shit ice axe. Hayden glacier and the left side of what is prusik point? Or whatever the big rocks name is between the north and middle sister above Hayden glacier. Then once on the ridge I went up middle sisters always until it got too steep. It was a sheet of maybe 2inch thin ice tops. With interniten patches of scree and jagged rocks. If I had crampons maybe. But I've never been in crampons. So I bailed. Before the false summit. I'm happy to just get to the ridge and ski down. I hiked up I have never skinned in my life. Almost this year bought boots. I plan on it next year. When I was up on the ridge coming down I met 2 climbers. 1 was guiding a lady up. Paid guide. He was just pulling out anchors and rope. So I'm glad I didnt attempt more. I hardly bail on stuff. Although I did bail on bailey too last spring. Bailey is fucking sick. I skied a few peaks on crater. I think hilman and lauo. I don't have any crevace rescue experience so when I went up Hayden glacier in August it freaked me out. I just went to the first crack and turned around. When I ski Black Butte I hike up the regular trail from the lower TH. I'm sure u can skin up from the bottom TH where I park or the road but only on a very snowy day. Depending on your avalanche and route finding experience you might have a better time summiting from the biking road on the North side of the mountain. That's the side I ski down. Its only maybe 50 yards of semi bushwacking as far as bushwacking goes in the desert of Central Oregon lol. I'm from NW washington. It's skiable for me. I dont know about skinning it. Snowboarding sounds horrible through that mess. I use my cheap small city skis . You might be able to find tracks still. Otherwise it's like 1 mile or less from the upper TH parking lot. On the upper post road. U got a good GPS u can cut through on the main trail. I have some videos I posted only 1 or 2 on my KZbin. I will post more soon. I skied from summit to my car on the road to camp Sherman in January. It was incredible. I only go on good avy days. I don't have avalanche training. I usually summit the regular trail. I cant imagine u can skin the south ridge overlooking black butte. It's small and icy. I hike up then usually walk to the burn so the most east part then ski east a little then north then go out through what I just mentions. Theres a couple gullies u learn to avoid. I've skied ot maybe 7 times. And last time was tits dude. I even skate skied on the road with my Alpine skis for like 2 miles. I was fucking flying. Maybe best day I've ever had in the wood. I'm from Seattle.
