I like the game and have been playing it back when it was still Called Splitgate: Arena warfare and had like 100 players online max. But I really don’t see this game having staying power. Also TBH this feels more like Quake or unreal tournament than halo.

It just feels slow to me if it can be faster then yeah I can come back to it.

While I actually really like splitgate, Id agree. Halo is one of my favorite game series and I knew it was heavily Halo inspired, but I didnt realize until playing it just how much it did copy. Wow this weapon is just like halo's version! Wow this map is just like this halo map. Wow....this gamemode is exactly like halo's gamemode.... You get the point. I wish they emphasized their more unique aspects like the portals and jetpack. Why not go all out and really add crazy mobility shit like a wallrun or slide? Why not have more team capabilities with the portals like allowing teammates to shoot their portals through your portal? More map design thats really vertical and takes advantage of the portal mechanic, a la Club Silo? Stuff like that that im just thinking about rn. Rn it just feels like halo with some portals randomly thrown in and a jetpack, instead of "Splitgate". The game is still pretty good, especially since its an indie studio. I just wish theyd go more out there with their additions and doubling down on what makes the game unique.

I get what you are saying, it doesn't feel like an evolution in any shape or form. Personally, I've abandoned multiplayer FPS after grinding close to 200h on Apex, at least for now. Don't get me wrong, I loved it! Both playing solo and with friends. But, as you said, the genre needs something fresh and creative, not more of the same. As of late, I've been enjoying single-player games, like Binding of Isaac and Psychonauts 2. It feels good to have a relaxing "non-competitive" experience.

Jesus, what a downer of a video. For an indie game, splitgate is an exellent omage to the classis arena shooter, with a fun portal twist. While i would agree its a 7/10 game or there abouts, i dont have the expectation that its gonna be a paradigm shifting game, and more that its just something fun to play with my mates! Kinda like how we used to play games, no expectations, except it must be fun. Nice change from todays games, which im sure youll agree.

That's fair. I think the game can be totally fun without being genre defining or something like that and I think any hype around splitgate had to do mostly with the time of it's release. I think my reaction has more to do with my personal realization that every multiplayer shooter is just really incredibly boring to me.

Maybe it’s just me getting older but this review just made me think about games getting boring for me. I’ll still put in a whole day or two playing video games when I got the time, but man nothing gets me excited anymore like it use to. Nothing to look forward to when I pick up an FPS. I just play to do something rather than sitting around contemplating life.
