at @29:00 when Capac did a c-section on the rover with the forklift? He was pushing against damaged blocks. Which we all know can allow interpenetration (anyone picking up scrap after an explosion has experienced this). We fix this by repairing it and it pushes the scrap to the outside. Unfortunately for Capac and the rover. When Flipsie welded the blocks the forks had penetrated they were under too much pressure and became stuck INSIDE the block as it sealed. when Capac tried to move them again there was the inevitable explosion of Klang. Take away, Do not weld or repair blocks under extreme forces.

Been watching random Space Engineers videos (funny vids, neat vids, etc) and finally picked up the game in the last steam summer sale with all the DLC. Glad I did and found Splitsie... Finally watching the vids and have to say learning alot from these playlists off hand let alone some of the tutorials... Trying not to directly watch the tutorials, instead learn offhand/on my own only use the tutorials once I get frustrated or the offhand stuff does not directly translate. The direct thing that I am still working on is the handbreak... P is very convenient but I'm changing settings to disable things from being used for parking and instead use the block on the bar itself to stop by from being able to use P... Mostly because a friend's playing with me so we are both learning and we both have our mistakes so this way if one makes the mistake it doesn't always effect both of us. Thanks a ton Splitsie and everyone in the different series as all the tips reallllly help.

Serious suggestion: Regarding the hitch assemblies, consider using two vertical hinges - one at each end of the assembly - to eliminate an upangle on a leading unit imparting a corresponding downangle on the trailing unit. Like this: XXX]o-|-o[XXX Or this: VH...HH...RO...HH...VH This allows the center hinge assembly to float and not impart vertical force between trailers, allowing each unit to keep its wheels in even contact with the ground.
@dennislindemann90572 жыл бұрын
It also allows the height of each trailer unit to vary, as the vertical double articulation accounts for this difference. The horizontal double articulation makes turning simpler, as the rear trailer does not get dragged sideways as much (the lead unit can swing its back end out without forcing the front of the following trailer to do the same. All of my testing was done with a rover mass test mass of 40 batteries on each unit. Caution: fun results with low mass on ice! My test rig (low mass) is on the workshop as ROVER HINGE ASSEMBLY.

Sinking into a grid (blocks) if you notice - as u drive over a platform of blocks - which are unfinished - it is VERY rough. The smaller the wheel the worse it gets. but if they are fully built it goes away. You are all aware of this and many consider this as cool because it is the way you would expect it to be. i don't know if this is intentional on the part of the Devs or not. But I suspect that is is THAT which cause wheels to sink into the floors.

I'm not an expert on this, but I have noticed in one of my own worlds using the plane wheels mod, I do get a lot of sinking wheels and wheel clang. It's just as D.E. says, it's the larger grid updating. I think it's something to do with how small of subgrids wheels are in the entire scope of things and the game basically giving up trying to calculate collisions after a certain point. You can do grid updates and not have the wheels fall through, but it seems like the larger the grid is, the higher the chance is for sunken wheels. Like it takes more time for the whole grid to "update" giving the wheels a higher chance to slip past the collision box in that ever growing update period until it's constantly slipping just far enough into it that the game basically say, "Okay, this sub grid is not colliding with this other grid." I think it's something unique to sub grids, especially wheels. They just have that slight lag between grids updating and the game recognizing, "Oh yeah, the sub grids need to take this new thing into account." The only difference that the bigger wheels seem to do is make the clang much more interesting. Like because small wheels are so self explanatory, they have an easier time slipping through the collision box updating, but the bigger wheels end up getting partially caught in the collision box and it's a gamble at that point. Either they fall through like the small wheels, they're jerked back up to on top of the grid and winds up hitting something on the grid it's connected to, or the game freaks out and somehow calculates a lot of collisions and sends the grid the wheel's connected to into oblivion. I don't know of any fixes to this, but that's kind of what I've been seeing and that's what I speculate has been happening behind the scenes in the game, at least for me. I'm almost certain that's what's happening to the hangar and flight deck.
@Splitsie2 жыл бұрын
That's consistent with what I've seen. The more physics objects you have in an area the higher the likelihood for one or more of the collisions to be missed and things to end up inside each other
@steeljawX2 жыл бұрын
@@Splitsie For your "AA" on the "Way-Train" you got going there, you might want to do a more spread out turret than a concentrated one. I've got some that I've experimented against Reavers and it seems like the spread out "hits anything in a wider area" tends to "scare" them off a bit more than a concentrated volley. If you have a more spread out "dense" gatling AA custom turret on both ends of the train, you can essentially make an area of denial within the range of either turret. I'd then put a single mini railgun on a quick rotating turret and have you or Capac deal the final blow, as any airborne threats are going to be floundering just out side gatling range (about 1km or so to be safe). Having a "sneak" attack railgun, if you can afford it at all from salvage, would give you that 2km range and keep them further away and give you more breathing space. Just a suggestion. Lastly, instead of sending W4stedspace or DE up in their planes, you should send up 2 or 3 of W4sted's drones. Expendable, defensive, and it's getting rid of materials if you crash so that's less weight on the trailers. Just a thought that you might want to start "throwing your grenades" and "using your special ammo" now that you're essentially encumbered but nearing the end of your journey. This has been a lot of fun to catch from beginning to now. I really got into this from watching a bunch of your stuff and I've learned a lot. So at the very least, you can know that you've brought someone else to the game.

I once tried to make a large rover like that and had problems with just a single subgrid. The problem wasn't the subgrid.
