I always like using cycle sensors for the incubators, insteas of the timers, since they come with a pre-built stagger function. Opening doors also saves time (you don't need to have the doors to the lavatory or great hall or barracks closed), someone did the math one day, and it's about a 5% work time increase, iirc. Easy to eyeball if you imagine each pneumatic door takes ~1-2 seconds of dupe time and ask yourself how many doors a dupe uses in a cycle For extra water (at the cost of dupe labor) dupes should visit the toilet twice a day if you set up two bathroom breaks. But, yeah, not a good idea when you're scrambling for workforce. But useful later on, since they can eliminate more rads. Colony is looking awesome. Good luck!

Echo, you could throw a few arbor acorns in with the pips, for some free dirt and lumber. An Oxyfern in there too could also be helpful since it’s a pit room, and can net you just a bit more free oxygen

wood from arbor tree is useless at this point of the game, he cant use them to produce energy cause of the achiev, and i think its more useful for pips plant a lot of food plants to save a bit time of the dupes producing mush bars for calories. The oxygen is not a problem anymore after the eletrolyzer setup

You could groom the pips to get a cuddle pip that not only boosts your colony mood it will increase the speed the eggs will hatch and all the other eggs/pip can be consumed for the achievement.

Clutch episode, I find it impressive how aggressive you are with taking new dupes so early and you still make it work. That's such an early SPOM! I want to give a tip about the starvation message popping up (even when you have enough food), which keeps interrupting them in the middle of work. Give your dupes more downtime. What happens is they head off work, go to the bathroom and then it's already night time so they skip eating. You don't have to compromise work shifts, if you give them only 2 sections of sleep.

I believe you need at least 5-6 dupes to eat 400k kcal until cycle 100, it might be easier with more dupes.

@@ivanjermakov ya, i like to start with 8 dupes until cycle 20, as more dupes you have, more jobs you can do fastly and earlier, but it need to be extreme carefully to not cause a several starvation in your base. This make a lot easyer to consumes a lot of meat as need

24:17 -- I have a stable full of Cuddle Pips right next to my incubators. I don't need ranchers to give hugs. Those cuddle pips have saved my colony more than once, when the stress got bad. The only problem is dupes running through the stable on errands stop to get hugged several times.

I find it amazing how many parallels there are between your All-Achievment run and mine. Just remember that if you use the washroom water to make oxygen, the oxygen will hold back the germs. This shouldn't be a problem for you since your SPOM is so cold the germs should die off right away, but you never know. Also, the Super Sustainable achievement is really annoying because it takes forever to generate the 240k KJ. I only got the achievement about Cycle 130. Let's see how fast you are.

You should give eco a try its fun and very big. You should make a wild pip room thats kinda long but mostly deep to collect co2 and have the pips plant the o2 fern plants on multiple levels to increase your o2 and decrease your co2 and basically make more free meat from the wild pips planting the o2 plants. Ps dups running on the wheels will increase there movement speed. You can also use the hot salt geyser to warm the cool area below for more farming/ranching just let it flow to the lowest level make a wall so nothing floods though.

Not sure if you know this echo, but if you set the priority of those buried vent/geyser/volcano to yellow alert you can peak at what it is exactly, it won't tell you anything other than what it is, but I find it helpful to know so I can make a plan about how to approach and use it. If you did know this it will be helpful information for those who don't know 😄. Another thing is if running a max difficulty colony is to make use of the somnium synthesizer story trait and have a dream crew (once you can handle it) since it gives a colony wide stress reduction. But the juice may not be worth it depending on the situation.

Initially I thought any use of care packages would effectively be taking the easy way out but on further thought you're definitely right. With a player of your skill level after a certain point they don't make things easier, just faster, and waiting 'till cycle 100 seems a fine balance.

About your spiel regarding schedules, for me it's not about 2-3% extra work, but the extra morale you can get. What I usually do is put 2x sleep and then 3x free time. They will sleep through part of the free time, also eat, shower, etc. The thing is they get a little extra morale from the extra free time.

For these runs I've found its a lot better to just throw in a couple of open air electrolyzers than building an actual SPOM. with the open air design you save the power on pumping the O2 and you can get them up way sooner due to the lower research required.

I've been experimenting with an open "umbrella style" SPOM. Basically the top half is similar with 1 hydrogen pump and 1-4 electrolyzers. instead of the automation, sealing in and 4 oxy pumps, I use a gas filter set on oxygen and a gas valve after the filter and either buffer tanks, or cheaper and faster on research, a gas pipe spaghetti buffer [like in a rocket] set at 100g/s per electrolyzer and hydrogen generator pair. the "junk gas" output from the filter can empty either directly under the SPOM or out into the base. The setup can be placed directly above your clean water tank and produces 80 extra Watts assuming 1 electrolyzer, the filter, and the gas and water pump run flat-out. It gives 680 extra watts per Electrolyzer/hydrogen generator pair you add [up to 5, since a gas pump running flat-out generates 500g/s and the hydrogen generator takes 100 g/s], each water pump can handle up to 10 electrolyzer/hydrogen generator pairs. If you do 3 pairs, everything can be run on 2-strand from a single transformer [960w cost flat-out, generating 2400w or 1,440w of surplus for your base. The build is just like the hydrogen half of a normal SPOM, but instead of mechanical airlocks, you use either pneumatic doors or leave the door level open to allow heavy watt wire to run from the generators [which can sit on the colder side of the SPOM each with its own jumbo battery or eventual smart battery] If you plan on using more than 4 electrolyzers either make the ceiling 1 tile higher [to act as a natural buffer tank] or add more buffer tanks/pipes. The oxygen will naturally sink out of the system and float up through the base if you build it low [in this case, in that sinkhole in the tundra biome, just drain the water into an insulated [or double-tiled to be research cheap] cistern. the 3 pair system could also support an eventual desalinator + water seive + 2 liquid filter for a total of 1800w flat-out leaving 600w for your base. it could also self-contain at 4 pair [a normal SPOM] and add a thermal aquatuner and carbon skimmer for full sustainability and junk gas handling/base cooling [except for chlorine I guess]. This ghetto setup saves a ton [a couple tons actually] of refined metals and 840w [the 4 oxygen pumps less the additional gas filter], that's over 1 full hydrogen generator After all your water sources are found you can build a septic system and cap it with this, with enough electrolyzer/generator pairs to deal with all the water. I am still struggling with the rest of the challenge, mainly because my starting choices have little sand and algae [so no easy oxygen, gotta rely on pip-planted oxyferns and off-gassing pee until the umbrella plant kicks in], and are metal poor [1/2 the mass of metal veins] and that is trapped in geodes and boulders until I can tap the excessive volcanism [geoactive and extra volcanoes flags in the planet tweaking mod]

And while it slows down movement a little, for long dig shafts I have been experimenting with a 4-wide shaft, with the central ladder being 2-tiles wide, alternating left and right at every floor [think a side-view spiral stairwell, each segment being 5 ladder tiles high] the landings are normal tiles to start but get upgraded to mesh/airflow as it becomes available. The floors are to catch dropped junk [especially food] when the dupes catch their breath or cheer a dupe doing a thing [leveling up, getting a hat, completing research]. I have had idiot dupes starve to death by accidentally dropping food on a ladder, it falling to the sub-basement, and them get stuck in a loop. It might not look pretty, but in engineering, things that work are rarely pretty, and things that are pretty rarely work.

I have eaten the water and dirt cost for unfried mush bar. It save so much workforce (cook time + wheel time) and it's just until the meat kick-in. Plus it's not really that much expensive in water and dirt in mush bar if you need 2 more dupes' worth of fried bar just for cooking. That (+ open doors) will save a lot of labor time.

Just my two cents regarding the wheels. They aren't so bad that they should always be gotten rid off. They actually train machinery and athletics. I like to keep some and put the priority way down low. That way, even if I don't give the dupes enough to do at all times, they will not turn idle, and I have a spot where I can effectively look if anybody is idle = on the wheel.

A better option for the SPOM would have been to disable the gas pump for the hydrogen line until the top 3 rows of tiles were full of hydrogen. You would need to do less repairs on the hydrogen generator when you finally turned that gas pump on.

So I just turned on the oxygen machine, but with this atmo sensor had the hydrogen set at 20k, once the layer was lower than the doors, i flipped this switch which closed the doors. Now that its a solid stream, I can set the hydrogen pump at a normal setting and everything kicks to life!
