But If you like modern SB all round then that’s great for you. I’m not trying to hurt someone here. I wouldn’t have an issue with, you know, *gestures at previous comments* If it just was it’s own show! Really. Take modern SB character types, but put them in their own show. THAT would both stop old fans from being mad while keeping new ones in. But noooooo. The showriters (yes I know I spelt that bad) have to base it of a huge franchise, that has lots of fans and notoriety and money. Personally for me, I think Plankton not being happy ends up kind of working. The formula was the goal, but Mr. Krabs was who he directed his frustration and anger towards every time he failed. He made Mr. Krabs the villain of his story, and wanted the catharsis of destroying them. But Mr. Krabs was already defeated by the absense of Spongebob, and so in a sense, Plankton got what he set out for originally, but not what he grew to want. He didn't get to ruin Mr. Krabs, and that he probably never will now probably took the rug out from under him. He has the formula, he'll never get his revenge... I can imagine him looking back on his life up until now with a clear mind for the first time in years, if not a decade, and just being lost as to where to go now, with nothing to fulfill him like the rivalry did.
@UfoLoche Жыл бұрын
Yeah..while I don't care for the movie, that bit absolutely makes sense. It's a trope even: The villain or hero finally achieves their victory, but everything feels empty. Hell, for an example of this in action: Eggman in the IDW Sonic comics(And by extension, the actual Sonic canon) has pointed out that the reason why he keeps doing this specific song and dance with Sonic is because it's a matter of pride for him, he needs to beat Sonic on his own terms and (in his own words) "prove himself superior". The Joker in Batman has this, too. Plankton didn't prove himself superior here. He didn't show that Chum Bucket was better, he didn't overcome Krabs(Who is his nemesis, while Spongebob is the obstacle). He just took a bottle from a sad, old man.
@sinnamonski6853 жыл бұрын
Even when Kamp Koral comes out, it makes me happy to know that Stephen Hillenburg KNEW SpongeBob was gonna get more seasons, so he set up the first SpongeBob movie as like the true ending. No matter how many seasons are there after. "But why does plankton keep stealing the formula after the first movie?" Stephen, made it clear in an interview that if plankton is *still* stealing the formula even in season 20 (or "later seasons" during that time), those are just all his past attempts before he discovered Plan Z in the first film. And that the first SpongeBob movie will ALWAYS be the true ending of the series.
@thescooshinator3 жыл бұрын
That's all just a misinterpretation. Yes, Stephen has stated that he wanted the first movie to be the end of the show, but people interpreted it as the first movie being the last thing in the timeline. That misinterpretation has been spread so much that it's considered true by the fanbase, even though it isn't.

This movie was basically the equivalent of a history essay with a good introduction and starter paragraph that is soon followed by random filter put in that doesn’t relate to the theme and is there just to progress the plot. This movie had potential, but it just feels like they were trying to do three different ideas all at once and tried to mesh them together into one convoluted movie. Most of the side plots don’t really relate to the movie’s main plot and are just there as a way for the movie to meet the requirement of being over an hour long

y'know what kind of burns me personally is that the writers actively acknowledge old fans through references and call backs, all while blatantly retconning what was already once established in the show. for example, if you know Reg (who is in the background here for example 40:35 and stands out far more than generic background fish), then you know that spongebob and patrick have been friends since they were babies, and that spongebob met sandy later in life, and blah blah blah. if they want to establish a new canon thats fine, and its not like the series has a strong continuity anyway, but they can't do that while simultaneously making hehe funny jokes for older fans. because then it just feels like a slap in the face.

Literally nothing in Kamp Koral makes sense. - SpongeBob & Patrick have been friends for life. - SpongeBob met Sandy in season 1. - Spongebob got Gary from a snail adoption centre, not from his childhood (Otherwise, Gary would be really old/dead). - Squidward being only a few years older than the rest of the cast makes 0 sense. He is at least 10-20 years older than SpongeBob. He also should be working at the fancy Krusty Krab along with that one fry cook everyone liked. - Krabs and Plankton shouldn't be that young (They're literally 60-70 in the main show), and them being counselors makes no sense. Friend or Foe's flashbacks had occured 40 years prior, by this point they both have their restaurants and Krabs is very successful. - From what I've heard SpongeBob INVENTS the Krabby Patty, which goes against LITERALLY EVERYTHING ESTABLISHED SINCE DAY ONE. Krabs and Plankton invent the Krabby Patty as a mistake, and ONLY EUGENE KNOWS THE SECRET. The only thing SpongeBob does is make the burger, but the meat itself is done by Krabs. The reason why SpongeBob is hired is because he's exceptionally adept at making burgers in mere seconds.
@JJKAIJU3 жыл бұрын
I think Plankton reflecting on his life choices is not a bad idea, but he should reflect after some time has passed. Besides figuring out something he’s been wondering for years, he realizes he’s wasted most of his life doing one thing, and doesn’t know what to do next.
@peytona.24153 жыл бұрын
I agree, and it kind of makes sense considering how he did seem to go through a character arc in the previous movie where he realizes that the Krabby Patty is what brings everyone together and wanting it for himself rather than sharing it is selfish and he helps SpongeBob get it back. (Though he does later attempt to steal it again, but I guess old habits die hard, huh) In any case, it does seem like Nickelodeon as of late has been making Plankton less of an evil character and more of a morally grey character. He’s too “bad” to be “good”, but he’s also too “good” to be “bad”. He’s been considered a friend by SpongeBob several times, and he does seem to consider SpongeBob a friend as well, though he seems a bit too stubborn to admit it outright. I think this sort of character direction is really interesting and honestly quite welcoming to me, it’s nice to see Plankton, who’s had quite a lot of abuse on the show, finally have some friends and start to realize maybe the thing he’s been after for so long isn’t what he really wanted. He just wants people to enjoy him and his restaurant as much as they do the Krusty Krab.

This legitimately felt like a made for TV movie. Like it didn’t feel grand, it just felt uneventful. Like this could have been a 11 minute episode or 30 minute special. It’s just Gary goes missing, mess with cowboys, mess in casino, competition to get Gary back, the end. Even other tv specials have a more grand plot then this. Also I find it weird they used child actors in the movie but used the regular actors in Kamp Koral

Was it a banger though? At least in my perspective, it didn't have the same vibe as the first. I guess I wanted Sponge Out of Water to continue SpongeBob's arc from the first movie, along with elements from that first film. To me, Sponge On the Run was the closest to feeling like a direct sequel to the 2004 film in terms of story, character development and tone, which is why it's disappointing that Paramount made this a streaming exclusive rather a hybrid release, something that both Disney and Warner Bros. are already doing. But I can understand why you don't like it, there are a lot of story and character problems that maybe needed ironing out with a few more drafts, and hell, I would've loved to see the story with the cats just to see how it would've turned out.

Honestly, while this movie was painfully average, I feel like one thing that could’ve made it slightly better is having Spongebob completely centered on saving Gary, and I mean completely centered to the point where he isn’t the fun loving sponge anymore. Whilst Patrick is the one that both makes the jokes, and tries to cheer up Spongebob along the way. Also, I feel like Plankton changing sides and being good and feeling guilty could work if they gave Plankton more screen time during that moment. Maybe have him experience flashbacks of his other failed light hearted shenanigans, time spent with Mr. Krabs before they were enemies, and just basically anything that would give him motivation to feel differently about how he won. They could also have him join the gang very later on while he opened up his restaurant and dully fed people Krabby Patties. Whilst having to throw away all his evil inventions he made to steal the formula as he doesn’t need them anymore and having him feel even worse for it.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as it's impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER If you have any questions let me know xx

This is fundamentally how the show and most of its counterparts works. The biggest thing I dislike in relation to this is the lost city. Is it dangerous or not? Some say “it being a tourist trap instead of a hyper deadly torturous, treacherous place is a funny, cheeky spin on the concept”. Here’s why I disagree. In the first movie, SB and P are warned of the trench that is supposed to have dangerous sea creatures that kill on sight. When the two get down there, it IS legitimately dangerous; the movie didn’t lie about the dangers of the trench like this movie lied about Atlantis. SB and P in the first movie mostly happened to luck their way out of the trench through a dumb, cheap gimmick...which was the PERFECT way to represent the characters and the situation. They are constantly in danger, but they just so happen to BARELY avoid death ON ACCIDENT. I absolutely love this kind of writing for SB, but they discarded that here. Do you see the inherent difference in writing? And this is apparent throughout the movie and I hate it.

did you know?: the creator of Spongebob Squarepants wanted the first movie to be the finale to the show?

This movie reminds me of that Ferngully sequel where the baby animals get kidnapped and the fairy boys are like "We'll rescue them!"but then get distracted for half an hour of the run time at the funfair xD !

I can kiiiiinda see the reason calling it the "lost" city, in the sense that you can become lost in the city, because of the Vegas atmosphere. But they named it all wrong if that's what they were going for; call it Atlantis, the City of the Lost?

The joke is that it's based on Atlantic City, NJ

One thing I never liked about this film was the animation; it feels too stiff. While I've got nothing against stiff animation (yes, I'm counting stop-motion), compare the 3d animation in Sponge Out of Water to the animation in this movie!

Plot twist camp coral is the main cast's children which is why they meet at camp and not in the show and the reason why they have the same names is because no one had no idea what to name their kid so they named them after themselves.

No offense, but it would make way more sense if they DID know each other as kids but they forgot about it until they met again

For me, this movie is a masterclass in how to identify and avoid a disjointed plot. It starts like a fusion of the first movie and Have You Seen This Snail, then it goes into generic roadtrip, and then flashback world, all with a title that sounds more like a story about Spongebob being wanted by the law.

They just need to let Spongebob go. Give it a miracle finale so it can rest with the legendary cartoons before it. Heck they can make it as wacky as possible, even make it something like the Flapjack ending, just something that’s not so patronizing to the long-time fans

They had that. In 2004. Hell, Birthday Blowout would have ended nicely.

Yes! They should've just stopped after Hillenberg passed, I'm afraid what might happen is this is what younger generations will think of when they think Spongebob.

I just thought of something. In season 1, didn't Spongebob and Patrick meet Sandy for the first time? It's one of the early episodes. So doesn't the whole Camp Coral thing completely retcon that?

Plankton feels like the best well developed character in this movie: I think his motive in this movie is after he hears that Mr. Krabs gives up, really just wants to get it from him for real. Like, sure Spongebob stops him, but I think he knows it. He wants a challenge, to get the formula without it being handed over to him. That’s what Mr. Krabs expects from him, to just take, indicating why he gave to him in the first place. Plankton eventually does tag along, because he wants Spongebob back to show he has power once he gets the formula for real, again rather than handed to him. This also explains why Mr. Krabs gives up, considering one of the biggest things he relys on is Spongebob, but also keeping the formula away from Plankton, but since SpongeBobs gone, presumably for longer time than usual, Mr. Krabs gives up. He might have already checked in his house, obviously not seeing the paper that states about Gary going missing, then again that’s pushing it. That’s exactly what happened in the first movie, sure Mr. Krabs not only couldn’t do anything due to being frozen, but also to show that he has power and force to get the formula. That’s my take on it tho

I just wanna say something that makes yiu feel the same way at this. So, At the part where Karen finds… what was his name again? I don’t remeber that robots name anymore. When Karen found him in the dumpster, bringing the robot into the chum bucket. The robot says to Karen: “I LoVe u mOm” and we all know that in the episode: “Karen’s baby”, Karen has a son named chip. And this made me think: Karen never loved his son confirmed.

I agree I feel like the whole second two thirds of the movie are truly awful, it's just that the start is pretty good in showing character whithin the characters, I'm fine with the art style and basically everything else. I feel like they definitely should have gone with the same idea as the last two movies, because I genuinely liked them and they did very well, it's just that I feel like at the last to thirds of the movie funereal the producers not knowing what to do and hiring literally every celebrity and just not knowing what to do with the money that they have.
