I like the way you view the episode, but I personally don’t think the businesses are actually alive. My interpretation was that they’re a metaphor for faceless corporate entities that have no regard for consumer safety and exist purely to maximise profits. Because they have low margins by using shitty addictive ingredients they’re able to expand and overtake the local businesses and rivalries that used to exist. I think them “giving birth” to new stores isn’t supposed to be literal but rather just a way to represent how these companies overtake the food industry

These idiots added a special type of microalgae to their juice as a flavoring. The expectation was that they would add a special piquancy to the drink, and then simply be digested. However, in fact, they not only survive in the digestive tract, but also begin to feed on what they receive from the blood, multiply and, ultimately, sprout outward. It's not deadly, but it's not very pleasant (or very unpleasant if you're allergic). Removing this growth is also not a quick task, and you will have to starve a lot until this things comes out of you. (There is also an option to use a bath with a special compound to get rid of it immediately, but this is very expensive and painful). There was a big scandal.

I think this episode was supposed to talk about the risk of drugs addiction, a way to warn kids not to start it and to never get close to it, but they probably couldn't give it a bad ending or make an efficient way to make sure this transfers their message but couldn't since it's a kid cartoon. The Kelp Shake makes me think of Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew. In MILKSHAKE form. Yucky. I always say some things shouldn't be in ice cream form, let alone milkshake form, Mountain Dew is one of those things. Mountain Dew flavored milkshakes would be good and not good at the same time just like the Kelp Shake seemed to be when Mr. Krabs and Plankton tasted it.
