I always believed as a kid that the conch was fake, and it was actually just some kind of walkie-talkie with a lady speaking into the conch as some as a scam or prank. Man I really wanted squidward to crush that conch to pieces so badly. Dude just wanted to eat, not be part of this weird cult centered around a pull string toy. In fact, here’s how the episode should’ve ended: Squidward, finally fed up with this nonsense, takes a rock and smashes the conch shell to pieces, including its voice chip for good measure, ties spongebob and Patrick up to a tree and goes straight for the food. The ranger guy, who in this case would not be a club member, finds a defeated spongebob and Patrick tied up and gagged and squidward gorging, and knowing that they need help, calls for help via radio.
