I really like Alex Bale who made really well thought-out Spongebob theory videos, but had these life-action bits in them with an overarching plot where he had an eldritch creature living in his garage that gave him new theory ideas in exchange for...things. Don't want to spoil anything, but that whole playlist is extremely interesting and culminates in a in a surrealist horror movie called "Don't feed the muse" that's just...so good. I'm really glad that I watched it, Alex Bale is a talented film maker and has lots to say, can highly recommend it.

I actually got baited into watching some of these a while back, the white thumbnail ones. Everything seemed so inflammatory as "theories" so I would click on it to listen while doing something else, the algorithm caught on and started to flood me with these, by the second video I noticed there were no theories and had to go press "don't recommend" so they leave my feed. AI slop sucks a lot, after that all spongebob content(besides awe) left my feed, not even alex bale appeared.

I definitely understand why he stopped doing it though. There were signs that the show was improving around the mid-late 2010s, but things soon took a turn for the worse again. He saw the writing on the wall at that point and realized that the show was simply never going to be anything even remotely close to those first three or four seasons ever again, and to my understanding, the show's quality has basically stagnated ever since. If he had kept going, the series from that point on would have been an endless doomer onslaught of Scumbob after Scumbob with no hope of the show ever improving. When he began reviewing every episode in 2013, the show had at least improved somewhat since the pits that were seasons 6 and 7, and the bad episodes back then were at least _original_ if nothing else, so he at least had new things to say with each episode and was able to hold out hope that the quality of the writing might slowly continue to improve over time. These days, with the stagnation of the show's quality and the constant reuse of old plotlines, he would basically be giving the same criticisms over and over again with minimal variation and a prevailing flavor of doom as a result of the show making no effort to not completely suck.

Update about “When”: I looked into his channel and talked to him, he said he tried to ask Awe for his permission to make a simpler video, but got no response. He made the mistake of doing it anyway and after watching this video he decided he was going to make original content, which he now does. For example, while his newest video about Patrick Star making money may have been done before, he actually made a unique script and has his own take on the theories. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for those ChatGPT KZbinrs… one of them made the same video about Patrick and left the ai script in (he didn’t even bother to get rid of the “intro” and “conclusion” parts lmfao). Please don’t send any hate to When, he just seems to be trying to make SpongeBob videos short and concise, while obviously making money as well. Maybe like his videos or something as he was a pleasure to talk to and he genuinely seems like a nice guy, his videos have changed a lot!

Regarding the clickbait, I hate YT's changes and updates for years. The only useful one has been where you can right-click and say "don't recommend channel." I had never used it before on principle, but it eventually became too much. Since then, anything with "clip", "react", "recap", a stupid face thumbnail, an arrow or a circle on the thumbnail, baiting titles, titles missing numbering (if part of a series), and so forth have just been instantly blocked. What one should realize is, YT has been around for over a decade, and although people try to destroy old internet, there will always be enough there to look at before the grift turned hard. Edit: let me, add, people who just read news (though this might be encompassed via "react", which is really just content theft), people who use AI, channels that are obviously AI generated as a whole, and perhaps some others.

Recaps aren't bad, I like watching film or series recaps that retells the main things, plot and characters, because I value my time. Media is often intentionally stretched out with fillers. The problem comes when they are disguised as other content, theories/reviews. Take a "how to beat x" for example, they just retell the story and say either what characters did anyway or some banal info.

Weren't alex bale's spongebob theroies parodies? They were made to bring people into his arg about like a meat facility thing that mutates animals and one of the mutants escaped and was giving bale the spongebob theroy. There are live action segments about him getting the ideas from the monster, did all these theory channels not notice the arg elements and thought he was being genuine? If im wrong and getting it confused with another series, let me know.
