War Thunder's Anti-Everything Missile Carrier

Since CAS is such a recurrent problem in War Thunder realistic battles, one of my favorite things to do is act as a dedicated anti-air player. With the Air Defense Anti-Tank System or ADATS, you can engage both aircraft and ground vehicles with success. Though Gaijin have nerfed the ADATS somewhat, it is still a great tool to have on your team. The only issue is that Russia is so dominant at top tier that your NATO teams will often crumble around you, leaving you to fend off hordes of T-80BVMs and T-90s by yourself. I was able to eventually get a nuke with the ADATS, but it was an incredibly close call.

The T-80BVM was hilarious, perfect timing :P Regarding your question at 1:49 the answer is: " _yes_ " Just the front alone is like three angled, spaced NERA plates, the top with the Hedghog armor isn't so much better and the sides are even worse for chemical rounds, there you have ERA, spaced plates, Composite and or Nera plates (depending on the exact location), base armor. And the turret is also covered in spaced plates and Nera plates over the base armor. Although I don't think the Puma ingame has all off this armor and just compensates this with volumetric, lol :P

Flares are only effective against infrared-seeking missiles. The ADATS is a laser-beam riding SACLOS missile, meaning it simply goes wherever the gunner directs it to.

most people guide rockets manually against helis. also the way you fly affects flare reliability. like flying toward someone with no afterburner and shooting flares minimises your real heat signature, but you still need to evade the missile to cause it to loose track and pick up a flare. flares work the best pre-emptively. with chaff its the opposite and flying away or perfectly perpendicular to whatever is locking you will work the best, but much the same it still works best pre-emptively.

Hey Spook, I saw a video not too long ago (cant remember the name), about SPAA. ADATS was in it and they mentioned that if you shoot the missile in third person, it will track the reticle of where youre aiming, not the highest point of your gun. That means that you can shoot down planes from 90 degrees above yourself, but youre not able to radar lock them. It works, tried it myself in few games and got kills.

Dunno when you made the video, but planes crash cause gaijin raised people's graphic settings (so you have to reset them) and lot of computers cannot support it, people usually discover it the hard way (happened to me and some friends, we crashed a couple of times because of freeze before realising our graphic settings were on "cinematic mode")

So I came to realize this only a couple weeks ago, after playing for so many years. When using the shturm, you can guide the missile in 3rd person practically any where, including straight up(it only has like 60° elevation when using the sight). It's VERY effective.

With the ADATS you can guide the missile in third person view up to the 85 degrees shown on the stat card bit tricky but allows you to hit targets almost directly above you but I sure wish I could look with the gunner view!

A solution for the CAS issue could be like capturable AA points on the map. Put 3-4 per map so its balanced where one team can't easily take all the points and dominate AA. And make it to where the AA point isn't perfect, just makes CAS more difficult.

Or just remove cas from ground RB or even just make it two separate game modes. One for exclusively ground vehicles, one for combined arms. And if the queue times become so unbearable for both gamemodes (which I doubt it will but plenty of people like to throw that argument around), just remove the one that is less popular after a month or two. Then we'll get what the majority wants, might even see a lot of people come back to the game if they get to play ground RB without the chance of being removed by the sky gods. Nobody likes just dying out of nowhere by something that they have no way of countering. Especially with helis that spawn at the start of the match and make it to the enemy spawn with a full load of rockets before anyone has made it to an objective yet. CAS just makes players want to do badly. If you're not a massive threat to the enemy team, you're less likely to be bombed. If you're not capping objectives, then you're less likely to be bombed. If all you're doing is hiding and playing as safe as possible, you're less likely to be bombed. If you kill someone who has a plane or heli ready, then they could very easily come back to revenge cas you.

The panzer H should not be 3.7 Literally anything with chemical as a primary shell can’t penetrate it anywhere but from directly in front And if you are in front of a Panzer 4 H, he can shoot you literally anywhere and kill you It’s a mini tiger, as it’s armor, while not that advanced, is extremely good, allowing for bounces from t-34s and M4s, all while having a gun that’s straight up better Someone once made the point “yeah by the m4 will get a shot off first, so it’s better” but it doesn’t matter cause the Panzer 4 will likely survive, and get the first killing shot, which matters significantly more then the first shot taken With the T-34’s the issue isn’t as bad, but it’s pretty bad Because the good 75 is at 3.3-3.7 Any armor meta doesn’t exist, cause the panzer 4 will delete it 80mm just doesn’t matter cause you can shoot it from 500 meters away at 30 degrees and it still goes through and 1 shots cause it’s a filler round I have the panzer 4 g in my Italian lineup for 4.3, and it does better then the m4a4 It’s even more useful then the base firefly that sits at 4.7 Cause filler with 30-45 mm less pen is infinitely better then solid shot that has no post pen But German players are bad, so it sits at 3.7, it should be 4.3

It doesn't matter if the missile is beam-riding or not to be able to shoot on the move. IT-1 was designed to be able to fire on the move, as well as T-64B ATGM system. In terms of ADATS it's most likely an arbitrary limitation. It could fire on the move in theory, if there's no hardware limitations, but since it doesn't have stabilizer, it wouldn't be able to keep track on target and hit anything. I personally think there's nothing stopping you from firing a missile IRL, but since some manual says "Only shoot when you're stationary" Gaijin will interpret it as hard restriction implemented in the hardware. A stupid approach.

Before uninstalling I went on a roll with BMP2M (and backups), its missiles make ADATS look like it should be 8.3, winrates and KDR (especially per shot fired) make the rest of the countries look like they should have far lower BRs and repairs. God have mercy on the non-soviet non-china nation to reach 55% average winrates in any BR.

A supposed rumor that is all but confirmed is there'll be a Hungarian sub tree added to Italy like the new Finnish to Sweden. Hey Spookston! I have a great idea for vehicle to play that definitely won’t make you suffer. What about the very overpowered and fair and balanced centurion mk 3. That thing does get a stabiliser at 7.3 but it also gets sabot to finish it off which goes up to 285mm of blank range pen and cuts through the Germans very well.

IRL: yes, it does. However, there’s a shit ton of stuff they don’t have in game for the ADATS anyway so I’m not surprised.
