An old trick I do at the end of a session is tie a pva bag with a few stones in to the end of your mainline give it a good cast! Let the bag melt. then your line is slack... hold the line with your fingers when winding in... An it reduces twist for your next session... also if you use a cloth instead of fingers gives it a clean.

Got my 3 x Daiwa Emblem 45 scw qd today to pair with my Daiwa 12ft Powermesh 3.5lb rods and spooled it up with 12lb Carpline, the shallow spool takes 300m perfectly, now to get the time to go fish.

Another really helpful video from Darrell, I'm enjoying these immensely. Try to find a tackle shop that is part of the national line recycling scheme when you dispose of the old line.

The team here recycle line as much as possible and we have a national line recycling scheme bin at our head office for the guys 👍🏼

I just put the new line in bucket of water, let it soak and spool it under tension as mentioned here. The spool turns itself in the water on the side, where you shouldn’t be getting twisted line. Pros well for me and is easy to handle :)

Im getting back into fishing after a long time out can you do another vid showing both filled to the top wrongl and one with the bottom wrong . Its my first time spooling up 45's tapered spool . Can I not use washers if I think its spooling to heavy on the bottom. Thanks.

Hi guys. Love these vids as can only dream about fishing at the mo. Listening to Darrell in the video about line twist when spooling up, how would I know this when fishing? What are the tell tale signs I can see that the line is spooled incorrectly?
@liquidoslakki4 жыл бұрын
Chris Walsh it will immediately twist when the line is slack, usually at the top eye of your rod.

It is normal for a new reel to have to insert a washer to fill the line evenly ?

Heres a tip for removing line. 6inch long piece of wood say by 1inch square. 2 x 6 inch nails in the ends and 1 6 inch nail in the middle going the opposite direction to the two end nails. The middle nail goes in your electric drill. Tie line to one of the end nails and voila line removed in 60 seconds
@michaeldejager22004 жыл бұрын
Dave Dowson how about just 1 7inch nail in your electric drill. Does the job just as easy...

Is that the same with braid mainline
@OliverQueen19744 жыл бұрын
Josh Shakespeare braid is lot more forgiving than monofilament/fluorocarbon as it is not affected by twist due to its suppleness. I still soak it in water for a few minutes before winding it on under more tension than mono’s through a hand towel/cloth (don’t burn or cut your fingers this way when reeling it on!) so it sits on the spool better with no loose coils
@liquidoslakki4 жыл бұрын
How about braided mainline, Darrell? Is it necessary to soak that as well? I’ve heard stories of letting the spool of braid soak in water mixed with degreaser to get rid of some factorygrease which, without soak, prevents the line from sinking. Hoax or not?
@OliverQueen19744 жыл бұрын
liquidoslakki I soak my braids for a few minutes before reeling it on under a little more tension than mono’s which means no loose coils that could cause wind knots during the cast. Always use a towel though to reel braid through so you don’t burn.cut your fingers! I don’t use degreasers with braid as they will be absorbed by the braid & if using for actual fishing rather than spod/marker, they could dissipate in the water and potentially put off fish like soap does. Any stuff from the factory will come off when reeled through a towel/cloth anyway

I use sub 20lb n touchdown 20lb i follow guides on how to spool up,there are so many opinions on how is the correct way however no matter how I try it is still get really bad twisting in my line. 🙁🎣
@michaeldejager22004 жыл бұрын
Joni the boi tha’s just the thing with mono... backwinding instead of using the clutch helps a bit reducing twists. But cutting off a couple of meters each session helps the best, and then just respool after a while.
@chriswright47164 жыл бұрын
Joni the boi i had this too for ages mate until recently. I bought a Berkeley spooling station and soaked line etc then put the spool on the station and pulled 2 feet off and see if I got twist ( I did) turned the spool round and tried again. Bingo was perfect
@bennicholson1914 жыл бұрын
I find that if you spool up like you would for so many meters then grab a piece of line from the eye and with your other hand grab from the spool and bring them to meet in a loop, if they spin and spin round each other turn your spool of line in your bucket the other way, u want it where it just forms a big loop with no twisting
@jonitheboi6054 жыл бұрын
Cheers guys will try these see if they help, I have looked at the spooling contraptions might have to give o e a try at some point..👍👍

I had terrible twist with 20lb touchdown when I spooled my son's reels. I re done both recently as it was a nightmare and not much else to do in lockdown lol. I found the only way I could get it on without twist was to put the touchdown spool on the floor label side up not in any water or pre soaked. Run through a cloth in my hand whilst pinching the line. I kept stopping to make sure the line wasn't twisting every now and then. I tried every other possible way with 20lb touchdown and this was the only way I didn't get line twist. Hope this helps.
