The best spoon carving instruction videos require no talking, except when the dogs barks.

Hey Simon, great job. If that was your very first spoon, then I'd love to see what you're producing now after a few years. You're obviously a natural who thinks about the cuts your making. I'll have to check out your other videos. Thanks 👍

For a first spoon, that's pretty good work. Nice proportion & symmetry.

Thanks, I like your technique, I have been making spoons for about a year now and then. Trying to find a good technique, this may be it. Take care.

Enjoyed your video a lot. Especially that great axe work. Very SHARP and well axe designed for carving or you're just a genius at figuring out how to use it. Hard to believe that's a first effort. Don't get me wrong, your other tools were also amazing but you can't go wrong with Nick's tools can you? I haven't afforded them yet but I'm glad you showed me again what quality looks like. Know I'm watching this a few years late but glad I did.

I liked it.But may I suggest :: keep the section little thick.Else it can break with little more pressure,n our efforts will not ve any value.We had taken quite a big log.Nice work, nice efforts.Thnks for sharing.

Good work.. forgot about sanding, and smoothing the wood, most important part!!

Sanding for armatures and ruins the character of this kind of work. Nothing will ever be better than the final cut of a sharp blade Minor facets are left as part of the evidence of handwork.

Watching how easy that carves makes me hate that most of my carving wood access is dried hard woods like oak and hickory it makes strong spoons but really takes a while to carve
@gale60125 жыл бұрын
Huh, I guess green hardwoods would be ideal? Unless you get bad warp with the shrinkage
@terry23464 жыл бұрын
Silver birch is widely available in areas with oak and hickory? Might work for you and it works very nicely.

For the spoon size I'd have quartered the wood

I carved my very first spoon with a dremel but it came out more like a scoop. Lovely for spooning sugar into my tea though.

Boy that seems like a huge waste of wood. When you look at how much wood you started with and the size of the finished spoon that was a lot of waste!
@susanp.collins78347 ай бұрын
What would have been done with the wood otherwise. It would have gone into the fireplace. This spoon will last a long, long time. They took a spoon out of an archeological site in Russia that was dated at 21000 years old.
