Impressive especially when you know the tools used are incredibly sharp and must be maintained that way to make it work. Instrument Hoarder a spoon mule is a sort of vice typically used to hold the spoon so you can use two handed tools. quite handy for larger spoons and such!

BTW the wood must be freshly cut from a green tree when doing this, the moisture lubricates the tools.

I took a spoon carving class and the instructor had blanks that she had cut out green on a band saw, wrapped them in foil and put in the freezer. At class she puts them into a container of water to defrost. Those no used go back in to the freezer.

Is that why the wood he uses is so easy to carve?
@pacificcoastpiper3949
@pacificcoastpiper3949 4 жыл бұрын
@@martinstojanovic2123 it entirely depends on the wood you want to use, some are better than others. Like black locust is extremely difficult to work with anything but a grinding abrasive. Where as basswood cuts well no matter what, because of its short grain fibers. The point I'm trying to make is this, the more solidly the fibres are stuck together the tougher the wood, I hope this helps
