Once allied with them you can beam down with your hologram and they will sing for you while your walk around outside their city. You can also avoid the social suicide by buying off your enemies at 12 million each. They also seem to like it when you use the AOL repair button over their cities. What spore needs in advanced gameplay so you can be assimilated with the grox, (like the borg), they become you and you become them.

I just imagined the last part, about the advanced gameplay. That sounds really cool, like imagine becoming a cyborg and converting your species to follow their beliefs and methods. Getting access to new parts, like Grox parts, if you successfully obtain the "Dancing with the Devil" badge. The top information was interesting too, I didn't know they sang at all. I also didn't know you could avoid having every other species turn hostile, I thought that was unavoidable if your relationship with the Grox was Friendly or higher.

When reading _Out of the Silent Planet,_ I quickly realized that Weston's reasoning that because humanity was more advanced (in certain ways) than the Martians, we had a right to "supersede" them--that is, wipe them out and take over the planet--could also have theoretically been used against humanity by an even more technologically advanced species. Sauce for the goose, you know. I'm surprised that Ransom didn't bring that up as a hypothetical scenario. Then again, maybe he was thinking of too much else already. He'd used a lot of mental energy translating Weston's speech into Old Solar--a speech where he'd had to explain a number of concepts unfamiliar to the locals--and was still grieving a friend.

Having a greater Interstellar drive increases how many parsecs you can travel at once, thereby increasing your energy efficiency when traveling, and shortening some paths taken.

I find that if I find empires near the grox I form alliances and pay them to attack. This works great because they can move along with you. I also add colonies along the grox border so I can have and idea of what I am dealing with

@redburst8 If I recall correctly it was something like 2,500 star systems. You can "cut a path" if you're willing to tolerate being at war with them. To destroy them and get the Badge Outta Heck you have to oust them from every single system they're present in - many of which have multiple colonised planets.

It depends on what kind of civilisation you are during Civ phase mainly. Military civs will do drills such as push ups and shooting practice, Religious civs will sing, pray and play trumpets, and Economic civs play game shows and hand out money. In Space phase however pretty much all of them just use the Military civ activities.

2:00 - You can also practice bombing from a long distance up to avoid turret fire. 4:34 - A Friendly Tribe can boost initial relationships with the Grox by 10 points. Military/Religious Civilizations have problems at home less often, and a Shaman can teleport home quickly for these emergencies. 5:00 - Also: Bring no friendlies and turn off your Auto Turret. 5:39 - You can use invisibility to stay within hearing distance for an extended period of time.

Fun fact: you can get the Grox buildings and vehicles (minus their spaceship) by buying one of their systems and copying the buildings into your sporepedia. Very good for GA.

well, it's easier to get to the center of the galaxy if you befriend them, as they won't attack you. but if you like your other allies then don't befriend the grox as it will make EVERYONE else in the galaxy hate you, even if you haven't met them yet. i guess news travels fast in the galaxy. anyway, if you want steave to give you the staff of life easily, ally with the grox. don't worry, steave won't know you allied with the grox ;D it's harder in my opinion to go to war with them since they're op (over powered) and they have over 1,000 "camps" or cities. hope i helped

Too late... I went to war. Destroying their colonies are easy. I have a wormhole that leads on the edge of Grox camps, and I also have a colony near the fringe of Grox camps (out of attack range)

Teraforming takes a long time and alot of energy. Staffs of life only have 42 uses and the disposables don't work on blue/red orbits. Embassies for allying might not work since the Grox will just blow them up before you can get any bonus from them. One very neet boost from allying the Grox is ULTAMITE ACCESS TO THE CORE!!!

Don't forget you need to jam uber turrets and as many turrets as possible on all of your planets as soon as you declare war or they'll decimate your empire with their attack power. I just learnt to jam defences on every planet I owned the slowly cut a path through until I made a small cluster of stars in grox territory mine with t3. This gave my own only able to advamce via technology race a front to fight on. :)

Strange. Is your computer paticularly up to date, hardware-wise? As far as I know, mission crashes aren't a known issue.

Kind of depends. If you're not allied with the Grox, then no. However if you're not allied with them then hanging around their territory too long will result in them sending you demands for money... from the center of the galaxy. If you ARE allied with them, sending an ally to kill them results in the Grox demanding your help, causing war if you don't respond by destroying your own ally's attack force.

Once they go to war with you, the only way to make them stop attacking is to kill them. They won't even communicate with you once war is declared, so getting them to back off is impossible.

Improving a planet's terra-score is usually appreciated by races you find around the galaxy, it's a nice way to get in a race's good books. Not so with the Grox, since it kills them stone dead. "Help" their planets and they get very mad.

@805matu Arguably, never encountering them is the best you can hope for. It takes weeks of real time play (assuming you're playing a sensible amount of hours a day) to kill them via optimal methods, and joining them makes all other races in the galaxy hate you. They're just a complete mess to deal with.

Every empire will instantly declare war(save for your closest allies, and even then they'll sever their alliance and just tolerate you), but they won't start attacking until you contact them and answer their war transmissions.
